Chapter 868 If He Wanted Her to Marry him
Thanks to years of working out, James had a seriously strong build. His bronze skin gleamed under the light.
Jasmine opened the first aid kit. Her eyes briefly lingered on James' chiseled chest before she quickly focused on his injured arm. The cut wasn't deep, but it was still bleeding.
A mix of pain and gratitude flashed in Jasmine's eyes. She gently applied medicine to his wound and said softly, "Thanks, you saved me again."
James glanced at her, his expression calm. "How are you gonna thank me?"
Jasmine paused, looked up, and asked, "How do you want me to thank you?"
A thought suddenly crossed her mind: 'I'm forever in your debt.' Her heart raced, and she quickly looked down.
James' chest muscles were impressive. His eight-pack abs glistened, and his waist was lean and strong. 'James had a great body,' she thought. 'If he wanted me to repay him by marrying him, I'd be willing.'
"Just owe me for now," James said, snapping her back to reality.
Jasmine looked at him and asked, "Owe you for now?"
"Yeah," James replied indifferently.
He actually wanted to ask Jasmine to go with him, but he didn't say it. It wasn't the right time. Even if he forced her to agree now, she wouldn't be willing. If she wasn't willing, she might leave him and come back. That wasn't what James wanted. He wanted her to be completely devoted to him.
Jasmine nodded and continued to apply medicine to his wound. A trace of disappointment flashed in her heart. James didn't make any demands. But what was she expecting? A proposing?
'I can't forget Hugo's warning to me. I am under Hugo's control. As a mistress, I shouldn't have any improper thoughts about James.' Jasmine's chest felt tight. She collected her thoughts and focused on applying medicine to James.
Just then, Hugo arrived. Since entering the estate, the manager had been briefing him about what had just happened at Whispering Woods Resort. Hugo's face was serious.
"Honey," he called out as soon as he entered.
Aisha, feeling dizzy, was sitting on the couch, talking to the security captain about the intruders. Seeing Hugo come in, she got up to greet him, "Honey, you're back."
Hugo hugged Aisha, and with a quick glance, he saw Jasmine tending to James. His gaze sharpened, and his face darkened. Subconsciously, he thought of Jasmine as his mistress, and she shouldn't have too much physical contact with James. Moreover, James was a traitor to him, so Jasmine shouldn't be close to him at all.
Just as Jasmine finished bandaging James, she saw Hugo staring at her with displeasure. She quickly stood up and said, "Mr. Rochet."
Hugo released Aisha and asked coldly, "You were bandaging him?"
Jasmine's fingers tensed slightly. "Mr. Franklin got injured saving me, so I bandaged his wound."
"Aren't there any doctors here?" Hugo's voice grew colder.
James put on his clothes and said indifferently, "All the doctors are assisting Dr. Smith with Prince Mateo's surgery. Do you think I'm important enough to compete with Prince Mateo for doctors?"
Hugo was at a loss for words and gave Jasmine a cold, displeased look. Aisha noticed the tension and her expression turned cold.
"I asked Jasmine to bandage James' wound. Do you have a problem with that?" Aisha said, her tone firm.
Hugo paused, glanced at Aisha, and didn't dare to object. "No."
Aisha pushed Hugo away, turned around, rubbed her temples, and sat on the couch. "Such a big incident happened in our place; I almost got into trouble. You came in and didn't even care about me. Am I just insignificant to you?"
Hearing this, Hugo quickly followed her and sat down beside her. "How could you think that? I was worried sick about you when I heard about the incident."
Aisha glanced at Hugo, then hugged him, feeling aggrieved. "Honey, my head is so dizzy. When I fainted just now, I thought I would never see you again." She softened her voice, showing her full dependence on Hugo.
Hugo patted her back, soothing her gently. "Don't be afraid, I'm here."
Aisha leaned into Hugo's arms, the corners of her lips slightly curved. Dealing with Hugo required a mix of toughness and gentleness. Being a bit unreasonable at times, but knowing when to stop. Because men, especially those in high positions, inherently had a desire for control. They generally preferred women who were weak and dependent. A woman acting a bit spoiled and showing weakness would elicit more affection and protective instincts from a man.
Hugo comforted Aisha for a while, then began to inquire about the situation from Anton, who was standing nearby. Anton replied, "Those men didn't seem like ordinary people. Our men were no match for them. If it weren't for Prince Mateo's people, our security personnel might have all died tonight."
Hugo squinted his eyes and asked, "Did you capture any of them?"
Anton said, "We captured two, but they both committed suicide by poisoning. They were likely assassins."
Hugo's face grew more serious. "Prince Mateo was engaged. Who were those men in black targeting?"
Anton hesitated for a moment. "They seemed to be targeting Dr. Smith."
Hugo pondered for a moment and quickly understood. Nora must have hindered some people's interests! Considering Mateo's presence, those men in black were likely sent by Mateo's enemies. The only people who opposed Mateo were those in the royal family.
Hugo furrowed his brows. Now, he was considered one of Mateo's people. He was forced to take a stand. Mateo had better be competent enough to seize future national power! Otherwise, those who took a stand would be in trouble.
"I heard Prince Mateo took a stab for Dr. Smith?"
"Yes."
"Is Dr. Smith treating him now?"
"Yes."
Hugo asked a few more questions to grasp the situation before deciding to stop probing further. Aisha, who was also very perceptive, spoke up.
"Honey, were those men in black sent by someone from the royal family?"
Hugo took a deep breath. "Probably."
At this moment, both Hugo and Aisha silently prayed that Mateo would hold on and not have any mishaps. If Mateo died, their family were doomed; their end would come immediately.
A group of people waited outside, not knowing when the surgery would end. So Aisha had dinner prepared and invited Noe and Seraphina to bring Millie downstairs for dinner. After dinner, Jasmine accompanied Millie to rest while the others continued to wait.
Hugo watched Jasmine's back, then looked at James, squinting his eyes. He thought, 'James saved Jasmine; could Jasmine be falling for James?' Jasmine was a woman he had been with. If she dared to fall for James, he would tear them up!
