"Yes!" Genevieve didn't deny it. "Hubert, you'll pay for what you did and confess to Julian!"
Hubert glared at her, his eyes like a snake's. He sneered. "Genevieve, remember how Julian died? Remember the Wright Family's power?
Even if you have evidence, it'll get brushed aside. The police might call me in, but I'll walk free."
Genevieve's eyes sparkled with mockery. "Really? You just said the drug issue is big news. Even if your dad wants to protect Zephyr, who'd dare show favoritism now?"
'Is she planning to use public opinion?' Hubert's face darkened. "What are you getting at, Genevieve?"
Genevieve smiled. "You know exactly what I mean. You're done. I set a timer on my social media. I'll expose your crimes and let the public tear you apart!"
Hubert's forehead veins throbbed, and malice flashed in his eyes. He suddenly tightened his grip on Genevieve's neck. "You bitch, you're asking for it!"
He'd spoiled her with the best of everything, never expecting she'd turn on him.
Genevieve's face paled, her breathing labored, but her eyes laughed.
She mouthed and struggled to speak. "Hubert, you scum, this time you won't win. You're finished!"
This time was different. Hubert had messed with the wrong person. Zephyr's girlfriend, Jane, was a straight-arrow cop. She wouldn't let Hubert off.
Hubert didn't catch what Genevieve said, but her smile infuriated him. He pushed her to the ground and tightened his grip, wanting to kill her.
Genevieve's fingers clutched his hand. As her breathing grew faint, her eyes rolled back, and she passed out.
Just then, the doorbell rang. Hubert paused, looking towards the door, wary. "Who is it?"
"Mr. Wright, it's property management. Your downstairs neighbor reported a bathroom leak. Please open the door."
Hubert's face darkened. He glanced at the unconscious Genevieve, dragged her into the bedroom, straightened his clothes, and went to the door.
Through the peephole, he saw it was indeed property management, so he opened the door.
Before he could speak, several plainclothes officers rushed in and restrained him. Hubert's expression changed. "What are you doing? Let go of me!"
"Mr. Wright, you're reported for attempted murder. Please cooperate with the investigation," the lead officer said, signaling another to search the house.
Jane entered, glanced coldly at Hubert, and followed the officers to search for clues.
Panic flashed in Hubert's eyes. 'That bitch Genevieve called the cops? I underestimated her!'
Jane soon found the barely breathing Genevieve on the bedroom floor and quickly administered first aid.
After a while, Genevieve slowly woke up. Seeing Jane, she forced a smile. "You're here. Arrest Hubert. He just tried to kill me!"
"Don't worry, he's already in custody. Let's get you to the hospital," Jane said.
Genevieve relaxed and closed her eyes.
"Take him to the station," the lead officer ordered, and the officers escorted Hubert out.
Hubert, shocked that his meticulous plans had failed, shouted, "Let go of me! I didn't kill anyone. She's my mistress, and we were just playing around!"
"Save it for the station!"
"I want my lawyer!"
Jane took Genevieve to the hospital, where Nora immediately performed acupuncture. Genevieve soon regained consciousness.
Genevieve handed over all the evidence she'd collected on Hubert's crimes to Jane. Though she didn't have concrete proof of the drug incident, she had recorded her conversation with Hubert, clearing Zephyr's name. Zephyr was released, and Hubert was detained, awaiting legal punishment.
Genevieve gave an interview, sharing her and her family's experiences, sparking public outrage and demands for severe punishment for Hubert.
Hubert's wife, Sadie, couldn't handle the gossip and filed for divorce. Leonard wanted to help Hubert, but with so much public attention, he knew Hubert was beyond saving. He could only watch as Hubert was sent to prison. Hubert was finished.
Zephyr learned about Genevieve from Jane and found her name familiar. With Jane, he visited Genevieve and discovered her grandmother's house was next to Delilah's. Delilah had once wanted to introduce Genevieve to him.
Zephyr admired Genevieve's courage. Few women could endure what she had. Without her, clearing his name would have been much harder.
After thanking Genevieve, Zephyr feared Leonard might seek revenge and suggested she start a new life abroad. Genevieve agreed and left the country after being discharged from the hospital.
With the conspiracy unraveled, Zephyr, with help from business leaders like Aaron and Kenneth, resolved the drug incident. By year's end, he had overshadowed Lloyd and secured the Wright Group inheritance, becoming the head of the Wright Family.
Nora was almost nine months pregnant, with a couple of weeks until her due date. Aaron, nervous, cleared his schedule to stay by her side every day. This made Nora feel both helpless and warm. She thought it was unnecessary since she had experience with childbirth, but Aaron insisted, so she let him.
After half a year of acupuncture, Johnnie regained his vision. Though his hearing wasn't fully restored, it had improved a lot. Randy and Vilma were thrilled and planned a grand wedding. Nora was happy for them and could now focus on her own childbirth.
One day, while Aaron was walking with her in the garden, he received a distress call from Mateo.
