Chapter 116 Unconditionally Shading Nora

Jackson's face underwent a rapid succession of changes.

"Nora, what have you done to me? Why can’t I move my hand?"

Nora’s voice was cool and detached. "Nothing much, just a little something to cool you down so you won’t go around harassing women."

With those words, she turned and left.

"Nora!"

Jackson's face contorted with rage.

He let out a low growl. His glance fell on his immobilized arm, and with a dark scowl, he strode away.

What on earth had Nora done to him?

He needed to see a doctor right now!

Nora stepped out of the restroom and looked around. Noticing Jackson's absence, she let out a sigh and tidied a stray lock of hair behind her ear.

Jackson coming after her must have been about Aaron.

She really had rescued a handful.

Muttering to herself, Nora returned to the ballroom.

She was searching for Jenny amidst the crowd when she saw a woman in a champagne-colored evening gown pulling Jenny aside, speaking to her urgently.

A few other women surrounded Jenny, pointing and whispering among themselves while belongings lay scattered on the floor.

What had happened here?

Nora's brows knitted together as she walked briskly toward the commotion.

At the scene, Hannah held onto Jenny with a sneer.

"Jenny, do you have no shame in stealing my earrings and then denying it?"

Jenny's face was ashen. "I didn't steal your earrings!"

"How can you deny it?" Hannah held up one earring. "Everyone here saw it being found in your purse. Stop lying!"

Jenny's face flushed with anger. "Hannah, I didn't steal your earrings. You're slandering me!"

"Why would I slander you?" Hannah's eyes brimmed with contempt. "You’re just a lowly commoner. You can't break your petty habits even with Edric by your side. If you can't afford something nice, do you just steal it?"

Jenny’s eyes reddened with fury, “Hannah, I told you I didn’t steal it. Let go of me!”

"The evidence is right before us, and you're still arguing?" Hannah laughed coldly. "Someone like you doesn't belong at a classy event like this. Get out of here now!"

"That’s right. Get out!"

"Jenny, Cinderella will always revert to her true form come midnight. You might as well leave now before you make a further fool of yourself!"

"That’s right, Jenny. Take a look at yourself in the mirror; how dare you compete with Hannah for a man?"

Two or three women echoed in agreement, helping Hannah shove Jenny toward the exit.

Jenny lost her balance, teetering on the edge of a fall.

"Jenny, watch out!"

Nora arrived just in time, shoving Hannah aside with force, and then steadied Jenny.

Caught off guard, Hannah stumbled backward into a dining table behind her.

The table wobbled, and dishes and glasses crashed to the floor.

"My back hurts so much!" Hannah winced as she clutched her aching back.

One of her friends, indignant, pushed Nora. "Who do you think you are? You can't just push people around!"

Nora regained her footing and shot her a glance but didn't engage, instead asking Jenny, "Jenny, are you alright?"

Jenny shook her head. "I'm fine."

Nora was about to inquire about what had happened when she heard Hannah's friend remark, "Hannah, your dress is torn."

Hannah glanced down at the hem of her damaged gown, fuming with irritation.

She glared at Nora and snapped, "Both of you are trash! Don't you know who I am? How dare you push me? You're asking for troubles!"

With that, she raised her hand to slap Nora.

But as her hand lifted, she felt a sharp pain in her leg.

She cried out and tumbled to the ground.

At the same time, a bottle opener rolled away.

The onlookers gasped and stepped back.

Nora stepped back as she pulled Jenny with her.

Looking up, she saw Aaron in his wheelchair, approaching with Edric.

Aaron's hand had just lowered, suggesting it was he who had thrown the bottle opener.

He had intervened to stop Hannah from striking her.

Nora's lips twitched into a moved smile as her gaze met Aaron's, which turned tender.

She averted her eyes, listening to Hannah's whines on the floor, and turned to Jenny.

"Jenny, what exactly happened?"

A flicker of anger passed through Jenny's eyes.

"Hannah is the up-and-coming actress our company is promoting. She's jealous of me, considering me a nobody who's gotten close to Edric, so she deliberately picked a fight, accusing me of stealing her earrings."

So that was it!

Had Jenny become a fabricated rival?

The entitlement of these actresses was outrageous.

"What happened?"

Edric arrived at the scene, his handsome face expressionless.

"Edric, you have to stand up for me!"

Hannah, with her dress torn and her limbs scraped, clambered up from the floor. Her eyes was red as she whimpered and tugged at Edric's sleeve.

Edric glanced at her and shrugged off her hand. "Tell me the whole story. What happened?"
Hannah turned to Nora and Jenny. "Edric, Jenny took my earrings. I confronted her, and then this woman just came out of nowhere and pushed me. Not only did my dress tear, but I'm also hurting!"

She arrived just a beat behind Nora and hadn't noticed Nora had come with Aaron.

She assumed she was just a friend of Jenny's.

Jenny was a commoner, which meant Nora probably wasn't anyone of importance either. That's why she was so brazen.

"Hannah, are you saying that Jenny stole your earrings?"

Edric glanced at Jenny, his eyes narrowing.

"Yes, everyone saw it. One of my earrings was found in her purse," Hannah asserted.

Jenny's chest heaved with frustration. "Hannah, I'll say it again. I did not steal your earrings. Stop accusing me."

"If you didn't steal them, then how do you explain finding my earrings in your purse?"
Hannah snorted derisively and turned to Edric with a pout. "Edric, you have to stand up for me!"

Edric remained silent; the usual smile in his eyes was gone.

Nora looked up and spoke upon noticing a security camera, "There's surveillance camera here. We can just review the footage to see who's lying."

With that, a hint of panic crossed Hannah's features, her gaze flickering.

"The footage won't change the facts; Jenny stole the items! Edric, you should kick her out of the party!"

Just as Edric was about to speak, Aaron, seated in his wheelchair, interjected, "Edric, did you hear Nora? Get someone to check the surveillance!"

Edric raised an eyebrow and glanced at Nora. "Okay, I'll have someone review the footage."

Aaron really had Nora's back unconditionally!

It was then that a woman's voice cut through the gathering crowd.

"There's no need to check the footage; I can testify that it was Hannah who instructed her accomplice to sneak her own earring into Miss Parker's purse."
