Chapter 595 Why Did You Suddenly Break Up With Me?

Evella was somewhat unsure of what to say.

"I'm her godfather. Isn't it normal for her to tell me about this?" Richard took over the conversation.

Howard's handsome face darkened even more. He glared at Evella, saying, "Why is he your godfather now?"

Godfather and goddaughter, this title always evoked various thoughts.

After all, the Hamilton family was in business. Even though Howard was not in the business circle, he had heard some of the rumors circulating in the upper circles about godfathers and goddaughters.

When an older man recognized a young girl as his goddaughter, everyone knew what the older man was up to.

To put it more elegantly, it was the relationship between a godfather and his goddaughter.

To put it bluntly, it was the relationship between an older man and the mistress.

Now, Richard suddenly recognized Evella as his goddaughter.

Evella licked her red lips, not knowing how to explain.

Richard said they wouldn't publicly announce their relationship for now. That meant she couldn't tell Howard about Richard's identity either.

"Yes, she did. Do you have a problem?" Richard replied.

Howard glanced at Richard, his refined face darkening even more. He didn't say anything but grabbed Evella's hand and led her outside.

"Howard, what are you doing?" Evella asked.

"Let's go outside and talk." Howard pulled her hand tightly, his face cold as he led her out.

"Howard, let her go." Richard hurriedly followed them outside.

A waiter stopped him before reaching the exit.

"Sir, you haven't paid your bill yet," the waiter said.

Richard had to stop and settle the bill first. When he finished paying and went outside, he saw Howard driving away with Evella in a hurry.

One moment before, Howard was chasing Richard, and now it was Richard chasing Howard!

Richard almost burst out laughing.

In the car, Howard maintained a stern face and drove fast.

Evella tightened her grip on the handle and said, "Howard, slow down a bit."

Howard remained silent and pressed the accelerator, speeding up the car even more. He overtook several vehicles in a row.

Evella bit her lip and gripped the handle tightly, saying, "Howard, you're speeding; the police will be after us soon."

Howard remained unfazed, maintaining his speed.

As expected, a police officer quickly caught up and shouted for him to pull over.

Evella was speechless, then she said, "Howard, you're a public figure now. Do you want to trend for speeding?"

Hearing this, Howard finally slowed down and pulled over.

Evella sighed in relief and let go of the handle.

At that moment, the police officer caught up from behind.

Howard rolled down the window.

The officer saluted with a serious face, saying, "Please show me your license."

Howard handed over his driver's license.

The young officer glanced at Howard's license and asked, "Since you were Driving so fast, have you been drinking?"

"No," Howard replied, then added, "Just not in a good mood."

The officer looked at him, then glanced at Evella in the passenger seat, asking, "Fought with your girlfriend?"

Howard remained silent, implying agreement.

The officer returned his license and issued a ticket, saying, "Talk it out with your girlfriend. You're a man; be considerate to your girlfriend, don't nitpick, and never resort to dangerous behavior like speeding to vent your emotions."

Howard took the license and ticket, his expression softening slightly at the advice.

Evella felt embarrassed and smiled apologetically, saying, "Sorry for causing you trouble."

The officer glanced at her again and added, "If your boyfriend is arguing with you, it means he cares about you; Good communication is key."

Evella was speechless.

The officer was quite emotionally intelligent and good at defusing situations. After issuing the ticket, the officer left.

Howard rolled up the car window and looked at Evella, asking, "Did you hear that?"

"What?" she asked.

Howard replied, "The officer's words."

Evella's eyes flickered; she said, "I heard he said you should be considerate to your girlfriend and not nitpick."

Howard stared at her and said, "You sure know how to pick and choose what to listen to."

Evella bit her red lips and said, "Excuse me? What are you angry about?. I'm the one who should be angry. Look at me, I was being targeted because of you. It's driving me crazy."

Hearing this, Howard's expression softened slightly. He said, "I'm sorry."

Evella was about to speak when Howard continued, "But you've also caused trouble for me before, so we're even. And you've gained a protector because of it; isn't that a blessing in disguise?"

Evella swallowed the words she was about to say.

The remark sounded oddly ambiguous.

When Howard mentions her gaining a protector, he refers to Richard.

Evella tilted her head to look at Howard, her big eyes flashing momentarily. She said, "Howard, are you jealous of my godfather?"

Evella was still calling Richard her godfather!

Howard was about to explode, saying, "Jealous? I'm angry! Evella, be careful. Richard, a man in his thirties, has only seen you a couple of times, and suddenly, he's all over you, recognizing you as his goddaughter."

"He's actually trying to confuse you, wanting you to be his secret lover, don't you understand!"

Evella was speechless.

Howard's imagination was running wild!

But if she hadn't known that Richard was her actual uncle, perhaps she would have thought the same.

"Howard, don't think so poorly of Richard; look at his demeanor; he's obviously a good person; he's not as despicable as you think!" Evella naturally wanted to defend Richard's reputation.

Howard became even angrier and said, "Evella, if a person's demeanor could determine whether they're good or bad, I'll take you to the prison next time to see how many unsavory characters there are inside."

That was true, but Richard was her biological uncle. Naturally, he was a good person.

Evella thought to herself, her gaze flickering at the thought of Richard wanting her to break up with Howard. She tucked her hair behind her ear, unable to meet Howard's eyes.

"Howard, we should end our relationship," she said.

What! Not only did Evella acknowledge Richard as her godfather, but now she wanted to end the relationship that had just begun with Howard!

With his face livid, Howaed asked, "Why?"

"Did Richard tell you to do this?"

Of course, he did!

Evella hung her head in silence, tacitly agreeing.

Howard felt a burning urge to hit someone. Suppressing his anger, he held Evella's shoulders and made her face him, saying, "Evella, look at me. Tell me, what did Richard do to you? Did he hypnotize you?"

Evella was speechless.

Howard's imagination was so amazing!

"No, stop imagining things."

Howard asked, "Then why did you suddenly break up with me?"

Evella blinked her eyes and said, "We were pretending to be a couple in the first place, but now I don't want to pretend anymore. Can't we break up?"
