Chapter 1026 I Didn't Want to Be Apart from You

"It's me," Gabriella nodded eagerly.

Realizing Johnnie couldn't hear or see her, she squeezed his hand.

Nora and Aaron, outside talking to the doctor, heard Johnnie had woken up and came in with a hearing aid.

Aaron put it in Johnnie's ear. "Johnnie, can you hear me now?"

Johnnie closed his eyes, enduring the discomfort. "Mr. Gordon, I can hear you."

"Good," Aaron replied.

Johnnie swallowed hard. "Mr. Gordon, am I both blind and deaf now?"

"Yes," Aaron said honestly.

Johnnie's chest heaved, and his eyes reddened.

Aaron sighed. "Johnnie, be strong. As long as you're alive, there's hope."

Johnnie swallowed again. "Okay."

Seeing a tear slide down his face, Aaron knew he was in pain but at least he understood.

Gabriella, seeing him cry, felt even more distressed.

She wiped his tears and held his hand tightly. "Johnnie, Nora is a miracle doctor. She'll cure you."

"Yes, I know." Johnnie's unfocused eyes tried to smile.

Seeing his effort, Gabriella felt a sharp pain in her heart.

She hugged him tightly, burying her head in his chest. "I'm sorry, Johnnie, it's my fault."

Johnnie closed his eyes, trying to suppress the pain, and patted her back. "It's not your fault. You're a victim too. Some people are just too malicious. If it wasn't this time, it would have been another."

Gabriella looked up. "Do you have a guess who did this?"

A coldness flashed in Johnnie's eyes. "Mr. Gordon, was it Rafael?"

After a brief period of distress, Johnnie had calmed down.

He couldn't think of anyone else who would harm them other than Rafael.

"It's just a guess, but we're pretty sure," Aaron said.

Johnnie nodded. "Only someone as insidious as him would do this."

Aaron responded, "You focus on recovering. I'll make sure you get an explanation."

"Thank you, Mr. Gordon."

Johnnie reached out to touch Gabriella's hand. "Gabriella, are you hurt?"

His tone was gentle.

Gabriella thought of the child she lost and tears streamed down her face.

The cold tears fell on Johnnie's hand, burning his heart.

He frowned. "Don't cry, tell me, are you hurt?"

Gabriella, with tears streaming, said, "Johnnie, we lost our baby."

Johnnie was stunned. "You were pregnant?"

"Yes, the baby was only a month old, but it's gone," Gabriella choked out.

Johnnie was dumbfounded, his eyes slightly red.

The sudden arrival of a child, just to be lost.

He couldn't say he wasn't heartbroken.

If it weren't for Rafael's scheme, he could have been a father.

Johnnie suppressed the pain, took a deep breath, and patted Gabriella's hand. "Don't cry, we're still young, we'll have more children. Consider this as postpartum confinement, go back to your room and rest."

Hearing this, Gabriella sniffled and wiped her tears. "I don't want to go back, I want to stay here with you."

"Be good, go back."

"I don't want to! Johnnie, I don't want to be apart from you. I'm scared," Gabriella insisted, her voice firm but vulnerable.

Johnnie frowned, sighed, and moved to the edge of the bed. "Then come up here."

Gabriella finally smiled through her tears. "Okay."

Seeing them share the hospital bed, Nora wanted to say something but stopped. Both were patients, and sharing a bed wasn't wise, but they needed each other's comfort. She exchanged a glance with Aaron and quietly left the room, leaving two caregivers to watch over them.

Nora, looking tired after over ten hours of work, was approached by Aaron. "Honey, you should go back to Hugo's house. I'll stay here until Noe arrives."

"It's okay, I'm not tired," Nora said. Aaron had let her sleep earlier, so she could still hold on.

Aaron's phone rang. It was an unfamiliar domestic number. He answered, "Hello, who is this?"

"Is this Mr. Gordon?" a middle-aged man's voice asked.

"Yes, it is."

"Hello, Mr. Gordon, I'm Johnnie's father. Sorry to bother you."

Aaron was taken aback. "Oh, Randy, hello. Is there something you need?"

Randy explained, "Johnnie was supposed to come back today, but we haven't seen him. We can't reach him on his phone. I called your company and got your number from the secretary. Has Johnnie contacted you, or is he on a last-minute business trip?"

Aaron's eyes flickered. Just as he guessed, Randy called because he couldn't reach Johnnie. "Randy, Johnnie is on a business trip and can't take calls right now."

He didn't want Randy to know about the accident yet.

"Oh, I see. I was wondering why he wasn't answering his phone."

Randy asked, "Is he on this trip alone?"

Aaron thought for a moment. "As far as I know, Johnnie is with his girlfriend."

They had met Thea and Yannick, so Johnnie must have told his family. Aaron remembered Johnnie had a childhood friend but didn't know what the Perez family thought of Gabriella.

"Mr. Gordon, is Johnnie with Ms. Costa?" Randy asked.

"Yes."

"I see, thank you."

"No problem."

After hanging up, Nora asked, "Was that Johnnie's father?"

"Yes. I didn't want to worry him, so I didn't mention the accident," Aaron said.
