Chapter 683 You're a Cop

Hearing Sandy's words, Ernest shouted, "I didn't want to hit her. I was just drunk."

Sandy nodded and said gently. "If we help you get your wife back, can you quit drinking?"

Ernest stared at her. "Can you really get her back?"

Sandy continued to coax him, "As long as you quit drinking, we can help you talk to Aria. After all, you have lived together for five years, and you must have feelings for each other."

Ernest said, "Yes, we do. Otherwise, I wouldn't be this upset!"

"Then you can't hit her anymore. Can you do that?"

"Yes, I can do that!"

It was clear that Ernest desperately wanted them to bring Aria back.

But with a man of such a character, any sensible woman would run as far away as possible!

Sandy thought to herself, still racking her brain for words to calm Ernest down.

If Jane didn't act soon, she would run out of things to say!

Just then, Sandy suddenly heard Jane's voice in her ear.

"Aria, is that you?"

Sandy glanced at Jane and saw her staring ahead, seemingly full of surprise.

Instinctively, Sandy followed her gaze, but there was nothing there!

Where was Aria?

That one call of Aria made Ernest turn his head instinctively.

A gunshot rang out, and Ernest screamed, his hand holding the knife to Zephyr's neck suddenly loosening.

With a clang, the knife fell to the ground.

Amid the crowd's screams, Jane rushed forward like the wind, grabbing Ernest's hand and pinning him to the ground.

At the same time, Jane swiftly pulled out handcuffs and cuffed Ernest's hands.

Ernest's voice rang out like a pig being slaughtered.

"Let me go, let me go, you liars!"

"Stay still."

Jane barked, lifting Ernest up.

Ernest's eyes were bloodshot, his gaze sweeping over Sandy as if he wanted to tear her apart.

Sandy glanced at him and then looked away, walking towards the freed Zephyr with Nora.

"Dr. Wright, are you okay?" Nora asked with concern, glancing at the wound on Zephyr's neck.

Fortunately, the wound seemed to be just a surface cut, and Zephyr should be fine.

"I'm okay."

Zephyr touched the wound and smiled slightly.

"Mrs. Hamilton, Ms. Smith, you must have been scared!"

Adam walked over quickly, and Lori also emerged from the corner.

Frederick, who had sensed something was wrong outside, also rushed in.

Seeing that Nora and Sandy were safe, his tense nerves finally relaxed.

"Let's find a doctor to check on Dr. Lori and Dr. Wright," Sandy said to Adam.

"Okay," Adam responded quickly.

"It's just a minor injury, and I'm really fine."

Zephyr felt that the wound on his neck was just a small cut and didn't need checking.

"Just get it disinfected and bandaged," Sandy said softly.

Since she said so, Zephyr didn't argue and followed Adam to the clinic.

Ernest, who was handcuffed by Jane, was still shouting, "My hand hurts so much, I'm going to die!"

"Shut up!"

Jane scolded, "When you were abusing Aria Diaz, did you ever think that she is also a person and would feel pain?"

Ernest wailed, but no one knew if he ever felt the same pain as Aria.

Jane handed him over to her colleague. "Get a doctor to bandage his wound first, then take him back to the station for questioning."

"Yes."

The officer took him inside the clinic.

Jane straightened her clothes and saw Nora and Sandy looking at her with bright eyes. She smiled slightly.

"Dr. Smith, Dr. Hernandez, long time no see."

"Long time no see, Jane. So, you're a cop!" Nora said with a smile.

Jane nodded. "That's right. I'm all about justice. How could I look like a gang leader?"

Nora was taken aback and couldn't help but laugh.

"We never thought that."

Jane smirked teasingly. "Yeah, it was some self-righteous guy who thought so."

Nora knew she was talking about Zephyr and laughed, trying to smooth things over for him.

"Some say that to deal with thugs, cops need to look fiercer than the criminals to keep them in check. So, when Dr. Wright first saw you, it was probably because of your fierce aura that he thought you were a gang leader."

Jane raised an eyebrow. "Dr. Smith, stop making excuses for Dr. Wright. His brain just works differently from others."

"Doctors' brains definitely have more twists and turns than ordinary people."

"Is that so?"

"Of course, otherwise, how could they save lives?"

Nora and Jane joked for a bit, and Sandy, curious, asked, "Jane, if I may ask, how did you end up in the fishing village back then?"

Hearing this, the smile on Jane's face faded slightly.

"My dad was a narcotics officer. He died in the line of duty. After I graduated from college, I followed in his footsteps and became a cop."

"Later, there was an opportunity where the narcotics department needed a fresh face to infiltrate a criminal organization. I volunteered for the task, disguised as a bodyguard, and went undercover in the organization."

"After taking down several of their crime dens, I was discovered. I was hunted by those thugs and almost lost my life. But I was lucky. After being shot, I jumped into the sea and later met you guys, eventually getting rescued."

Jane briefly explained the situation.

Her tone was calm, but it made people involuntarily respect her.

Being a police officer is a noble profession.

Narcotics officers are even more worthy of respect.

Because their fight against criminal forces is filled with unimaginable dangers and difficulties.

"It's quite embarrassing to say, but because of my special identity, I couldn't be honest with you during that time, and I didn't say goodbye when I left. I'm sorry." Jane finally smiled apologetically.

"It's okay, we understand," Sandy quickly said.

At this moment, Zephyr came out with white gauze wrapped around his neck.

When he saw Jane looking at him, a trace of discomfort flashed in his eyes.

He cleared his throat. "So, you're a cop."

Jane raised an eyebrow. "Disappointed?"

Zephyr looked away, changing the subject. "Thanks for earlier."

Jane replied, "You saved me before, so we're even."

Zephyr didn't respond, and the conversation fell into an awkward silence.

Jane glanced at her watch. "I'm afraid I'll need a few of you to come back to the station with me to make a statement."

Nora nodded. "Okay."

Just then, Nora's phone rang.

Nora picked up her phone and saw that it was Kenneth calling.

She glanced at Sandy and answered the call.

"Kenneth."

"Nora, where are you and Sandy?" Kenneth asked.

"We're still at Radiant Beauty Clinic."

"Is Sandy with you?"

"Yes."
