Chapter 540 Either Hold You or Carry You
Becky's nerves tightened, and she accelerated the car.
The car behind her also sped up, closely following.
Becky deliberately slowed down, and the car behind her also slowed down.
It was clear that the car behind her was definitely suspicious.
Becky immediately became tense.
It was only halfway to her destination. She wanted to stop, but this was the highway that she couldn't stop.
The car behind her kept following her. What did they want?
Were they tailing her? Or was there another reason?
Becky swallowed hard. Her first reaction was to call Nora.
Lately, Nora had become her backbone. Whenever she had a problem, she only wanted to find Nora.
Therefore, Becky hurriedly took out her phone, ready to call Nora.
But no one answered.
'What should I do?'
Becky hung up. She was so nervous that sweat beaded on her forehead.
Lucas's image flashed through her mind. She quickly dialed his number.
The phone rang twice before it was answered.
"Hello?"
Lucas answered the call.
Becky didn't bother with pleasantries and quickly said, "Lucas, I think someone is following me."
Hearing this, Lucas immediately became tense.
"Where are you?"
"I'm on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge…"
Before she could finish, the car suddenly jolted.
The car behind her had rammed into her.
Becky screamed, her body lurching forward. Her phone instantly fell onto the car floor.
Lucas's frantic voice came through the receiver.
"Becky, what happened?"
Ignoring the phone on the floor, Becky quickly gripped the steering wheel and floored the gas pedal.
Her car sped forward, reaching 112 mph.
The car behind her was quickly left far behind.
At this moment, she was almost off the bridge. Just as Becky was about to breathe a sigh of relief, a car parked at the upcoming intersection suddenly accelerated and rushed toward her.
Becky's eyes widened, and then she instinctively swerved to avoid it.
However, because she was going too fast, her car crashed into the guardrail.
A sharp pain shot through her forehead. Her head spun, and then she slumped over the steering wheel.
In a daze, it seemed like someone was prying open her car door.
Soon, the door was forced open, and two men came to drag her out.
‘Who are they?’
‘Are they good Samaritans passing by, or are they the ones following me?’
Becky wanted to scream for help, but her consciousness was fading...
In the hospital room, Nora had just woken up.
She and Emma had completed their bone marrow matching surgery that morning.
The surgery had gone smoothly. They were all very happy.
"You're awake?" Aaron asked softly.
He had been incredibly attentively taking care of her in the hospital room for the past few days.
Nora smiled and sat up. "What time is it now?"
"It's already past eight in the evening. Are you hungry?"
Aaron helped her sit up and placed a pillow behind her back.
She had slept since the surgery ended in the morning.
She had slept until the evening!
Nora found it hard to believe. She touched her abdomen. "I'm fine; I'm not hungry."
After touching her abdomen, she started looking for her phone.
"Where's my phone?"
Aaron took her phone out of the drawer.
"The first thing you want is your phone when you wake up?"
Nora laughed happily. "You know, young people can't live without their phones."
Aaron raised an eyebrow. "Are you implying that I'm old?"
Nora chuckled. "Can you live without your phone?"
Aaron said, "As long as you're by my side, I don't need it."
Just as he finished speaking, his phone rang.
Nora giggled.
She thought. 'Don't brag so much. You will eat your words sooner or later.'
Aaron glanced at his phone and then hung up the call.
Nora said, "Why didn't you answer the phone?"
Aaron said, "I told you, as long as you're by my side, I don't need a phone."
Nora laughed. "Alright, stop joking. Was that a call from the company? You should call them back; don't keep them waiting."
Aaron pinched her cheek. "You're so considerate?"
Nora's eyes sparkled mischievously.
"Actually, I have a selfish reason."
"What?"
"If we're both on our phones, you won't nag me."
Aaron was speechless and flicked her nose.
"You can only play for a while."
Nora protested, "I just donated bone marrow; I'm not really a patient. There is no need to restrict me."
"Since you're in the hospital, you're a patient."
Not allowing Nora to argue, Aaron finished speaking and went outside to make his call.
'He is such a domineering man!' Nora thought.
Nora muttered to herself, then looked down at her phone and saw two missed calls.
One was from Becky; the other was from Lucas.
Strange, why would both of them call her?
Nora first called Becky back.
The phone rang a few times before it was answered.
"Hello?"
A man's voice came through the line.
It sounded familiar.
Nora thought for a moment. "Is that Lucas?"
"Yes."
Nora raised an eyebrow. "Where's Becky? Is she with you?"
"Yes."
'They are really together?'
Nora's eyes sparkled with excitement. "You both called me. What's going on?"
Lucas said, "Becky had an incident, so she called you."
Hearing this, Nora's smile froze. "What happened to her?"
"Someone was following her, causing her to crash and kidnap her."
"What! Where is she now? Is she okay?" Nora was shocked.
"Fortunately, I arrived in time. She's safe now."
Lucas said, "But she has a bit of a concussion. She's currently under observation in the hospital."
Hearing this, Nora breathed a sigh of relief. "You're also at the hospital?"
"Yes."
"What floor are you on? I'll come right away."
"The 12th floor of the inpatient department." Lucas gave Becky's room number.
Nora hung up and quickly got out of bed. She grabbed her coat and prepared to visit Becky.
Just as she finished the call, Aaron walked in. Seeing her rushing out, he quickly blocked her path.
"Nora, where are you going?"
"Becky had an accident. She's in the hospital. I want to see her." Nora said.
Aaron frowned. "You just had surgery."
Nora said, "I'm fine. I just donated bone marrow; I don't need to be hospitalized, okay?"
However, Aaron wasn't reassured. He insisted she stay in the hospital for observation for two days.
"I'll go with you."
Aaron said, then scooped her up in his arms.
Nora was helpless. "Put me down. I can walk by myself."
Aaron said, " Either I hold you, or I carry you. Choose one."
Nora rolled her eyes internally.
How dominant this man was!
"I'm really fine. You don't need to be so worried."
"You may not care about your health, but I do."
Aaron held her securely and strode forward.
Nora inhaled Aaron's familiar and pleasant scent, feeling her heart melt.
She leaned into his embrace, allowing the passing doctors and nurses to cast surprised looks at them. She smiled very happily.
At this moment, on the 12th floor.
In a private room, looking at Becky, who had a bandage on her forehead and was still unconscious, Lucas felt a bit scared.
Images flashed through his mind.
In a warehouse, the sounds of men's sinister laughter, women's cries, and clothes tearing were intertwined.
