Chapter 1007 Complete Trust in Signe
"Mr. Rochet, ask her to repeat that." Nora pulled out her phone, opened a translation app, and pointed it at Mia.
Since Hugo wouldn't translate, she let the app do it.
Hugo gave an awkward smile. "Dr. Smith."
"Hugo, listen to Nora," Aaron said coldly.
Hugo had no choice but to translate Mia's words. "She said Millie is a jinx and that she and Emmeline caused Stov's death."
Mia clearly had issues with Millie and the others.
Nora said, "See, she hates Chrisland people so much she blames Stov's death on Millie and Emmeline. Can we still let Millie stay?"
Hugo looked awkwardly at Mia, who seemed even more displeased.
Mia asked, "Hugo, why is she pointing her phone at me?"
Hugo frowned. "Diego, Mia, what did I tell you before we came? Even if you don't like them, don't show it. But you just won't listen. Do you want to hand Millie over to them?"
Diego slapped Mia on the back. "Why did you say that? Are you losing it? Millie is Stov's only bloodline. Do you want our family to end?"
Mia, though unhappy, always listened to Diego and suppressed her anger.
"Hugo is getting treatment, right? He'll have kids soon, so our family won't end."
"Is that the same? Millie is our biological granddaughter!" Diego glared at her.
Mia pouted. "So what if she's our granddaughter? She has half Chrisland blood. She'll probably be closer to Chrisland people. We shouldn't raise an ungrateful child."
Diego got even angrier. "How dare you talk back? Say it again if you dare. Do you need a lesson?"
Seeing Diego roll up his sleeves, Mia quickly said, "Why are you yelling at me? I didn't say Millie is a jinx; Signe did."
Nora's phone was still translating their conversation. She was worried Hugo might hide something, but the app's translation wasn't clear. Still, she got the gist.
She asked Hugo, "What are they saying?"
Hugo summarized, "Diego is scolding Mia. Mia said it wasn't her who called Millie a jinx; it was Signe."
Nora asked, "Where is this Signe?"
Hugo translated.
"Signe should be at home now," Walter said.
Nora asked, "Mr. Rochet, is Signe also a doctor?"
"Yes, our shamans are skilled in medicine," Walter replied. "They know medicine and spiritual arts. When our relatives pass away, shamans act as mediums for final goodbyes."
He spoke with great respect for the shamans. "I'd like to meet Signe and ask about medical skills. Is that possible?"
"Of course," Walter nodded after Hugo translated. "But it might have to wait until evening. Signe usually doesn't go out during the day, only at night."
Nora and Aaron exchanged a glance, and Aaron nodded. "That's fine."
"Make yourselves at home," Walter said.
"Alright." Nora took a sip of coffee and glanced at the seat next to her, then froze. "Aaron, where's Samantha?"
She remembered Samantha sitting next to her when they arrived. How did she suddenly disappear?
Aaron's face turned serious. "Did anyone see Samantha?"
Hugo quickly asked the group in the local language. "Did anyone see Samantha?"
"The man who came with you took her to the restroom," Walter's wife, Astrid, said quickly.
The man must be Frederick. Nora and Aaron both sighed in relief.
"Aaron, I'll go find Samantha," Nora said.
"Okay, I'll go with you," Aaron replied.
"No need, you guys continue your conversation."
The men were likely discussing international affairs, which she wouldn't understand, so she didn't want to interrupt.
"Astrid, accompany Dr. Smith for a walk," Hugo said to Astrid.
"Alright." Astrid agreed and smiled, gesturing for Nora to walk with her.
Nora took out her phone and used the translation app. "Mrs. Rochet, please speak slowly. My phone can translate."
She played it for Astrid to hear. Astrid listened, surprised and curious. She cleared her throat and cautiously said, "Okay, I'll speak slowly."
Astrid was more tactful than Mia, probably because Hugo had briefed her. She was very polite to Nora, but who knew what these people were really like behind the scenes?
As they walked, Nora asked, "Mrs. Rochet, do you dislike Millie?"
Astrid's eyes flashed, and she shook her head. "No."
Nora smiled. "I understand. Every place has xenophobia. Even within a country, people from different regions can be opposed to each other, let alone people from different countries. So it's normal for you not to like Millie."
Astrid smiled without speaking, but it was clear she agreed, though she didn't dare show it.
Nora continued, "But do you really believe in this jinx thing?"
Astrid replied, "Signe wouldn't be wrong."
Like Walter, Astrid had great faith in Signe's words.
Nora said, "So you let Randall isolate Millie?"
Astrid's eyes flashed. "Jinx brings disaster to others. It must be avoided."
Astrid spoke quickly, but Nora could still guess her general meaning from the translation app. This was definitely something Signe had said. They believed Signe, so they allowed Randall to isolate Millie.
Nora pursed her lips in silence, growing more curious about Signe. How did Signe use spiritual arts?
As they walked, Nora suddenly heard a scream. It was Samantha's voice. Why was Samantha screaming?
Nora's heart skipped a beat, and she quickly walked toward the sound.
At that moment, by a pond in the garden, Alfred Rochet lay on the ground, soaking wet, coughing violently. Samantha squatted beside him, looking worried. Frederick stood nearby, glaring coldly at Juan Morris, who he had just knocked to the ground.
Just moments ago, Juan had pushed Alfred into the water. Luckily, they had discovered it. If they had been a little later, Alfred would have drowned.
