Chapter 866 Someone Had Infiltrated

Jasmine didn't know what Nora was thinking, but James's gentle care for her was definitely catching her eye.

James wasn't much of a talker, but being around him made her feel oddly at ease.

"What's up with this horse? Why'd it suddenly go nuts?" Aisha asked, clearly worried about something else.

Nora's face grew serious at Aisha's question. She instinctively scanned the area.

Just then, the horse trainer came over, leading the horse. He told Aisha that the horse had stepped on a thumbtack, which made it go wild.

Aisha frowned. "How are there thumbtacks on the track? Why didn't you clean it up properly? Go and clean the area thoroughly right now!"

"Yes, ma'am," the trainer said, quickly leading the horse away.

Nora felt uneasy, like someone was watching her. She looked around but only saw tourists and horse trainers, all busy with their own stuff, not paying her any attention.

Whether it was her imagination or not, Nora thought they needed to beef up security.

"Aisha, how's the security around here?" she asked.

Aisha, still feeling bad about what had happened, replied, "Our security and maintenance have always been top-notch. I didn't expect anything to go wrong while hosting VIPs like you."

Nora smiled. "It's okay, but I think the security team should do a thorough check for anything unusual."

Aisha nodded. "Got it. I'll take care of it right away."

She called over the security captain, Anton Kuznetsov, and told him to inspect the estate thoroughly and tighten security measures.

It was just a minor issue, and Anton had the security team do a thorough check, but they didn't find anything unusual. Nora thought she might have been overreacting and that the thumbtack was probably just an accident. So, she decided to let it go.

Soon, Noe arrived, and Seraphina introduced him to Aisha and James. After exchanging greetings, they continued to enjoy their time at Whispering Woods Resort.

Millie was eager to go to the vineyard to pick grapes, so everyone went along with her. The grapes there were pesticide-free, so they could eat them right off the vine. Millie was thrilled, and with James's help, she picked and ate grapes until her little belly was round.

James occasionally handed grapes to Jasmine, encouraging her to eat. Jasmine was still a bit shaken by the earlier incident, but James's calm presence helped her relax. She took the grapes and savored their delicate sweetness, feeling her heart lighten.

Noe and Seraphina picked grapes together. One picked while the other ate, and the last rays of the sunset cast a beautiful, romantic glow over them.

Nora and Aisha trailed behind, watching the others. Nora joked, "Aisha, looks like it's just me and you left. How about I pick, and you eat?"

"Sure, thanks, dear," Aisha replied, and they both laughed.

After spending some time in the vineyard, the sky began to darken.

"Millie, what do you want for dinner?" Aisha asked.

Millie patted her round belly and said in her sweet, childlike voice, "My tummy says it's full, but my mouth says it wants meat!"

Everyone laughed, and Aisha said, "Dr. Smith, the food area at Whispering Woods Resort has a barbecue setup. How about we do it ourselves?"

"Sure," Nora agreed readily.

They headed towards the food area of Whispering Woods Resort. Halfway there, Anton hurried over.

"Mrs. Rochet, there's a situation."

"What happened?" Aisha asked.

"We apprehended two intruders disguised as waiters," the security captain said.

Aisha's heart tightened. "Who are they?"

"They won't say."

"Where are they now?"

"In the storage room behind the kitchen."

"Take me to see them."

"Yes, ma'am."

Aisha and Anton spoke in the local language, which Nora didn't understand. James, however, understood and translated for her, his expression slightly tense.

Nora immediately became nervous. She had a feeling that something big might happen tonight.

"Everyone, stay safe," she instructed Noe and Seraphina.

They responded in unison. Frederick's gaze turned cold, and he became highly alert, staying close to Nora. James, on the other hand, held Millie in one arm and protected Jasmine with the other.

Aisha said to Nora, "Dr. Smith, I'm really sorry. Whispering Woods Resort has been open for so long without any incidents, and I didn't expect so many unexpected situations today."

Nora smiled. "It's not your fault."

Nora had a vague suspicion in her mind. The people who sneaked in might be targeting her. It wasn't unreasonable for Nora to think this way. She had crossed paths with Mateo and affected other people's interests, which might have brought trouble.

When they reached the food area, Aisha originally wanted Nora and the others to go barbecue while she handled the situation. But Nora thought for a moment and decided to go with Aisha to see those two people. She was very curious about who they were.

So Nora asked James and Noe to take care of Millie and the others while she had Frederick accompany her and went with Aisha into the storage room.

Inside, the two men dressed as waiters had their hands tied behind their backs and were kneeling on the ground. Two security guards stood beside them. When Aisha came in, they greeted her respectfully.

"Mrs. Rochet."

Aisha nodded slightly and looked at the two men. "Who are you, and why did you sneak into my estate?"

Aisha spoke in the local language, which Nora didn't understand, so she just observed the two men. Although they were dressed as waiters, their demeanor was anything but ordinary. They stood tall, with fierce and decisive eyes. Even with their clothes on, their muscular arms and chests were evident.

'These two men are probably assassins!' Nora thought. 'What are they planning to do by sneaking in?'

As Nora pondered, she saw the two men kneeling on the ground, looking up and giving her a strange smile. Then one of them shouted, and the ropes binding their hands suddenly snapped.

Nora was startled and quickly took two steps back. Frederick's expression turned serious, and he stood in front of her, watching the two men warily.

The two men kicked away the security guards who tried to grab them, then whistled and took something out of their mouths, throwing it into the air. Frederick's pupils contracted, and he shouted, "Hold your breath!" At the same time, he quickly covered Nora's mouth and nose, swiftly leading her out of the room.

The substance floating in the air was a drug that could cause dizziness. Aisha and the security guards, who were slower to react, inhaled varying amounts of the drug. Aisha soon felt dizzy and was the first to pass out. The security guards fared slightly better, managing to engage the intruders in a fight. But they, too, were weakened by the drug and were soon overpowered and knocked out.
