Chapter 171 They Are My Children
With a quirk of his eyebrow, Aaron smiled, his fingers playfully ruffling Nora's hair. "Is it too much to ask for a bit of politeness?" he queried.
Nora's brows furrowed as she smoothed out her tousled locks. "Do you prefer people who put on airs?" she retorted.
"No," Aaron replied, his chuckle soft and low. "I prefer you just as you are."
A silence fell over Nora. 'Sweet words, but are they sincere?' she wondered. "May I leave now?" she asked, her impatience to escape this situation evident.
Aaron glanced at his wristwatch. "It's nearly time to fetch the children. Let's go together," he suggested.
Nora's delicate brows knitted together in a frown. 'He's involving himself with the children too?' she thought. "Mr. Gordon," she began, her tone firm, "I believe I've made it clear that we should maintain our distance until you've sorted out your family affairs."
A smirk tugged at the corners of Aaron's mouth. "I'm merely going to see the children. How does that affect our situation?"
Nora choked on her words. "They are my children," she managed to say.
"I know. I'm not trying to take them from you," Aaron assured her. Nora was left to wonder, 'How does he manage to twist logic like that?'
Aaron watched Nora's annoyed yet beautiful face, his eyebrow raised in amusement. Nora bit back her irritation, moving a wheelchair towards him and helping him sit. She felt a pang of disappointment. Without uttering a word, she pushed him towards the stairs.
Noe was waiting by the car. Nora released her grip on the wheelchair. "I drove here myself," she informed them. 'Perhaps now she could finally have some peace,' she thought.
"I'll ride with you," Aaron declared. Nora remained silent, wondering if he was determined to disrupt her peaceful day.
Noe, unable to suppress a chuckle at Nora's gloomy expression, quickly assisted Aaron into the passenger seat of Nora's car. He then followed in another vehicle. Nora set off in the direction of the school.
A call from Jack interrupted their journey. As Nora reached to answer, Aaron swiftly snatched the phone away. "We can't risk an accident from driving and talking, can we?" he reasoned.
Nora fumed. 'She was wearing a Bluetooth headset, for heaven's sake. Was he always this controlling?' Aaron ignored her angry gaze and answered the call himself.
"Hello, Nora. Why haven't you returned yet?" Jack's voice echoed through the line.
A slight smile played on Aaron's lips. "Jack, don't worry. Nora's with me, and we're on our way to pick up the children from school."
Caught off guard, Jack fell silent. After a moment, he managed to say, "Mr. Gordon, you're being childish. Do you really think this will make Nora want to be with you?"
Aaron raised an eyebrow. "Thanks for the advice, Jack. I'll make sure not to use 'childish' tactics to pursue Nora in the future." Jack was left speechless.
"Anything else? If not, I'm going to hang up," Aaron stated. Even without seeing him, Aaron could almost envision the shock on Jack's face. He felt a surge of satisfaction.
Nora furrowed her brows. "What did Jack say?" she asked.
"He reminded me that my approach to pursuing you was somewhat childish. Lesson learned," Aaron replied with a smirk.
Before long, they found themselves at the school gate. The day's lessons were still in progress, so Aaron, ensconced in the passenger seat, pulled out his laptop to attend to some pending work. Nora, respectful of his need for quiet, sat patiently, awaiting the end of the school day.
Twenty minutes later, the kindergarten was dismissed. The scene was as vibrant and bustling as ever. Nora's eyes found her three children, the trio of Samanthas, as they lined up neatly and began to make their way to the entrance. A smile bloomed on her face as she stepped out of the car to welcome them.
As the gate swung open, a stream of children poured out. "Alex, Billy, Samantha," Nora called out, opening her arms wide to embrace them. She planted a kiss on each of their cheeks, a ritual of love. The three children, their faces lit up with grins, followed Nora towards her car.
It was then that Samantha, with her keen eyes, spotted Aaron's car and her face lit up with recognition. "Mom, that's Mr. Gordon's car! And I see Uncle Noe!" she exclaimed, wriggling free from Nora's grasp and running joyfully towards Noe.
"Noe, did Mr. Gordon come to pick us up from school?" she asked, her face radiant with excitement. Noe chuckled and nodded, confirming her suspicion. "Yes, Mr. Gordon is here too."
"Is he waiting for us in the car?" Samantha's eyes sparkled with anticipation as she looked at Aaron's car. Noe was about to respond when Alex and Billy came bounding over.
After a quick greeting to Noe, Alex took hold of Samantha's arm. "Samantha, did you forget how he let those mean ladies hurt Mom?" he admonished. Samantha's smile froze on her face. 'How could I forget? How could Mr. Gordon let those awful women bully Mom?'
"Let's go, we're heading home," Alex declared, pulling Samantha towards Nora's car. Billy scurried after them. Noe opened his mouth to say something but ultimately held his tongue. The explanation was something Aaron had to deliver himself.
Nora remained silent, allowing the children to climb into the car. In the passenger seat, Aaron finally looked up from his laptop as the car door opened, and he greeted the children. All three were momentarily stunned, staring at Aaron. Samantha was the first to recover, her face lighting up with joy.
"Mr. Gordon, what brings you here?" Despite her brother's warning, Samantha couldn't contain her excitement. She had missed Mr. Gordon.
"I'm here to take you guys home," Aaron replied, a twinkle in his eyes.
Samantha blinked her large eyes in response and glanced at her two brothers, not daring to say more. Aaron's gaze landed on the pair, and noticing Alex and Billy's stern expressions, he arched his eyebrows curiously. Did the brothers seem unwelcoming about his arrival?
"Mr. Gordon, we don't need you to pick us up from school," Alex stated, his face impassive. Billy nodded in agreement, "Mr. Gordon, since you have a girlfriend now, stop bothering our mom. She won't fall for a player."
Nora was starting the car when she overheard the conversation. Her eyes sparkled with interest as she cast a glance at Aaron. Alex was echoing her own thoughts!
Aaron looked puzzled. "I don't have a girlfriend."
"Really?" Alex challenged.
"Really," Aaron affirmed with certainty.
"But Jenny said your two girlfriends ganged up on our mom," Billy said, looking at him squarely.
Upon hearing this, Samantha pouted unhappily. "Mr. Gordon, why would you let two mean girls bully Mom?"
Aaron fell silent, contemplating. He thought about how he needed Edric to step up his game and get Jenny on his side as Edric's girlfriend to stop her meddling.
