Chapter 71 The One Billion-Dollar Psychic Toll Claim

Nora turned around to see Lucas approaching her.
Jack's expression darkened slightly as he positioned himself in front of Nora.
"What's up, Lucas?" he asked.

Lucas shot Jack a sharp glance.
"Nora, I need a word with you privately."

Nora had a clue about what was coming and stepped out from behind Jack.
"Lucas, this is about the divorce, right? I've signed the papers. When is the hearing?"

Hearing this, Lucas's face turned stonier.
"I don't agree! The agreement ain't mine; it's invalid!"

Nora countered, "Lucas, I left with nothing. What's there not to agree with? You aren't thinking of reconciling, are you? I made myself clear before, did I not?"

Lucas stared at her intently, his voice sad.
"Nora, you disappeared for four years and had three kids with some other guy. Your actions crushed my pride. If you insist on divorcing, fine, but you'll have to compensate me with a billion dollars for my psychic toll!"

A billion-dollar psychic toll claim!
Nora's face was a picture of astonishment. "Lucas, have you lost your mind?"

I've never seen such a shameless man!
He was the one who hurt her, and she was willing to let it slide. Yet, here he was, turning the tables on her!

Jack spoke up angrily, "Lucas, that's low!"

Lucas glanced at him dismissively and said, "Jack, stay out of it. This is between my wife and me."

"Lucas, I'm making this my business."

Lucas scoffed, "Jack, are you in love with Nora? She's still my wife. If you keep pestering her, I'll file a complaint with the Medical Association!"

"Go ahead!" Jack's usual warm face turned ice cold.

Nora quickly tugged at his arm. "Jack, don't get involved."

She didn't want Jack to get dragged into this mess.
"Lucas, I've signed the divorce papers. We'll let the law decide if you don't go through with it."
Nora stood firm. Lucas reached out and grabbed her. "Nora, do you want this spectacle to become public? What about our three kids getting dragged into this mess? I love you, and I could care less about the psychic toll of a hundred million dollars; just come back to me."

Hearing this, a chill swept over Nora's expression. She was about to retort when Jack intervened, pulling her aside before landing a solid punch on Lucas.

"Lucas, you're the most despicable man I've ever met," Jack seethed, his presence emanating an icy ferocity. Having thrown the punch, he quickly ushered Nora into an elevator.

A short distance away, Dr. Luna, who had followed the commotion, watched it through her phone, her interest piqued. So Jack was really into Nora, the woman known for her wandering heart?

Outside.

Nora turned to Jack. "Jack, violence wasn't necessary. What if he comes after you?"

Jack responded with a gentle smile, "Don’t worry about it. I've been wanting to hit him for a long time. Besides, I'm happy to see you finally getting a divorce from him."

His gaze was tender, laced with a touch of indulgence, causing Nora's heart to skip a beat. Lucas's insinuations about Jack's feelings flashed through her mind. Jack was a great guy, but she only saw him as a brother.

"Jack, I'm not planning to remarry after the divorce. I just want to focus on my three kids. Look at me. I'm already a mother of three, and you're not getting any younger either. You should find a girlfriend and start dating!"

Her smile was bright, effortlessly hinting at her feelings.

Jack was no fool.

He was desperate to confess, but seeing her wary eyes, he held back.

"Finding a girlfriend's all about timing. Not one for settling," he replied.

Nora reached her car. "Jack, you're such a good man. You'll find a girl who loves you. I should head back now."

"Alright, just drive safely," he replied, watching her drive away with a self-deprecating smile. She was his sister's friend, who had grown up with him. He had always been slow to recognize his feelings; by the time he did, she was with Lucas. All he could do was look out for her, waiting for her to notice him.

His phone rang, pulling Jack back from his reverie.

"Hello?"

"Doctor Parker, I found a house that fits your criteria. It's in a beautiful neighborhood, top-notch security, for about a hundred million."

A suitable house for Nora?

"Okay, I'll check it out tomorrow."

Nora drove home.
"Alex, Billy, Samantha, I'm back," Nora called out as she entered the front door.

The three kids playing outside lit up at her voice, racing toward her with glee.

Nora crouched down, spreading her arms wide, and the day's exhaustion faded away at the sight of her children charging into her embrace. "Come here, give me a kiss," she beamed, planting a loving kiss on each of their heads.

"Mom," Alex voiced his concern, "Mr. Gordon said you just had surgery. You must be wiped out, huh?"

"Mom, you worked so hard," Billy added, his young face etched with empathy.

"Mom, Mr. Gordon arranged for Ember to cook for us. Dinner's ready; let's go eat!" Samantha chirped, tugging at Nora's sleeve.

Every little face was filled with care, warming Nora's heart. Suddenly realizing her stomach was growling with hunger, she glanced over at Aaron sitting nearby in his wheelchair. "Dinner's ready, huh? Well, let's get inside!"

She was amazed at his thoughtfulness—picking up the kids, and arranging dinner.
Overwhelmed, Nora stood but was hit with dizziness. Losing her balance, she crumpled to the ground.

"Mom!" The children's cries filled the air, their faces stricken with fear.

Nora's face paled as she waited for the dizziness to pass. "It's okay," she reassured. "I just skipped lunch, so I'm a bit hypoglycemic."

From a distance, Aaron's expression grew concerned. He wheeled himself over quickly. "What happened?"

Trying to smile, Nora was about to explain when Samantha interjected, "Mr. Gordon, Mom didn't have lunch, and she's super tired."

The concern in Samantha's eyes was evident, and Aaron's voice softened. "Samantha, grab your mom some sugar, will you?"

Without hesitation, Samantha dashed into the kitchen.

Observing Nora holding her stomach, Aaron showed his concern. "Stomachache?"

"Just a bit. I'm fine," Nora said, attempting to mask her discomfort.

Aaron noticed how pale she was, and his gaze softened with compassion. "Noe, have Ember make some corn porridge right away."

"Sure," Noe replied, striding towards the kitchen.
