Chapter 109 Nora Takes a Shower
Aaron was in a good mood, though he furrowed his brows on purpose.
They were leaving the city tomorrow.
Swallowing her words of explanation once more, Nora stepped out of the store, her expression tinged with resignation.
Aaron couldn't help but chuckle. "Nora, did you get enough to eat?"
Arching an eyebrow, Nora patted her belly and scanned her surroundings with a look of disappointment. "I'm full, but it's such a shame we can only look at all this delicious food."
Catching her gaze, Aaron's eyes softened. "If you're up for it, we'll come back another time, and maybe bring the kids along for some fun."
He cherished the idea of revisiting old haunts with her and their three children.
He imagined the owner greeting them, "Mr. and Mrs. Gordon, your kids are darling!"
Though those three weren't his own, he knew he would love them as if they were.
"Yeah, I should really take my little ones out more often."
Nora, oblivious to his thoughts, simply nodded with a smile.
Then, a little girl with a basket of flowers approached, trying to sell the flowers to passersby.
The tourists only offered polite smiles and shook their heads before walking away.
She approached Aaron next and asked, "Sir, why not buy her a flower?"
Aaron's heart skipped a beat as he admired the vibrant roses, tempted to buy them all.
But before he could speak, Nora did.
"I'll take them all," she said.
Aaron fell silent.
What did she want with roses?
"Thank you!" exclaimed the little girl, her eyes lighting up. After taking the money, she curtseyed to Nora and skipped away, overjoyed.
Aaron lifted his gaze to Nora's beaming face and asked teasingly, "Are you planning to give me all those flowers?"
"Yes, they smell wonderful."
While speaking, Nora looked around and then stepped into a shop to buy scissors and tape.
Aaron was puzzled by her actions, simply watching as she kept busy.
Nora deftly arranged the roses into a garland and, without hesitation, she placed it upon Aaron's head.
He was handsome, with delicate features uncommon in a man.
With a garland on his head, there was something unexpectedly fairylike about him.
Nora could not help but laugh at her handiwork.
"Thomas, you look gorgeous!"
Frederick, who was pushing the wheelchair, looked down. Upon seeing Aaron with the garland, he let out a chuckle.
Aaron hadn't anticipated that Nora's rose purchase was a playful prank on him. His handsome face darkened as he reached up to remove it.
Nora quickly intervened, "Hold still; I want to take a picture to capture this moment."
Saying so, she snapped a couple of photos.
Aaron's expression grew darker. "Nora, you'd better delete those pictures right now."
"No way, if you've got the guts, delete it yourself!" Nora taunted, waving her cell phone with a playful grin on her face.
Aaron fixed his eyes on her and, in a surprise move, rose from his wheelchair and took a big step forward.
"Hand over the phone!"
The smile on Nora's face faltered, and she quickly walked over to push him back into his wheelchair.
"Alright, here. Why are you so impatient?"
Aaron grabbed her wrist firmly and, with a slight tug, pulled her down onto his lap.
"Would I be this worked up if it weren't for you? See what happens if you tease me again."
His voice was rich and magnetic, and the warm breath on her ear sent a shiver through her, stirring her heart into chaos.
Nora's eyes sparkled, and as she turned her head, she locked gazes with his deep, ink-black eyes, which seemed like an enigmatic pool drawing her in unwittingly.
"Excuse me!"
A tourist's call came from behind.
Startled, Nora quickly stood up from Aaron's lap.
"I'm off to buy some gifts for the kids."
Aaron straightened up in his wheelchair, a subtle smile playing on his lips as he watched her make her way to a shop.
She blushed.
Was she shy?
He would make her fall for him, utterly and irrevocably.
After composing herself, Nora picked out a few gifts for the kids.
By the time she was ready to pay, Aaron had already handed his card to the cashier.
She didn't protest, and after their purchases, they strolled for a while longer before heading back to the hotel.
She instructed Aaron to take a shower first and then gave him an acupuncture treatment.
He watched her concentrated efforts and decided not to tease her any further.
When the treatment session was over, Nora encouraged Aaron to get some rest in bed.
"Alright, Frederick, you've had a long night here with Mr. Gordon. I'll sleep in your guest room," Nora abruptly said.
Frederick glanced at Aaron, startled.
Aaron narrowed his eyes. "Why the sudden room change?"
"Thomas, I can't very well sleep in the same room as you," Nora pointed out.
Aaron let out a short, disbelieving laugh. "Nora, have you forgotten? Last night—"
"I was drunk last night, so that doesn't count," she quickly interjected.
Seeing her discomfort, something shifted in Aaron's gaze.
"Nora, I don't mind you switching rooms with Frederick, but my leg has been throbbing since I forced it riding. I've been enduring the pain so as not to worry you. Now, if something happens to my leg in the middle of the night, what will we do?"
Her eyes fell onto his long legs, and after a moment of silence, she said, "You can call me."
"And if I do and you don't hear it?"
"I will," she firmly replied.
Aaron held his gaze steady and finally nodded. "Alright, go ahead. I'm a man. Even if my leg is giving me trouble, I can tough it out until dawn. I won't be a bother to you."
Watching his expression grow distant as he immersed himself in work on his laptop, Nora felt rooted to the spot, unable to move.
The image of him rescuing her from horseback flickered through her mind.
Is it really a big deal to share a room?
She could always sleep on the couch.
"Um, I've changed my mind. Frederick, you can go back to your room. I'll stay here and keep Mr. Gordon company tonight."
Feeling relieved, Frederick quickly made his exit. He had a feeling that if he stayed to keep Mr. Gordon company, the irked man would have surely lashed out at him.
Nora grabbed some fresh clothes and headed to the restroom. As Aaron watched her slender figure, a smile crept at the corners of his mouth.
As expected, he had managed to keep Nora with him!
With his spirits lifted, Aaron turned his attention back to work.
Suddenly, a ring pierced the silence of the room.
Aaron looked up, pinpointing the sound to the couch.
It was Nora's phone.
Who could be calling at this hour?
Aaron hesitated for a moment before carefully getting out of bed and inching his way to the couch to pick up the phone.
It was Jack calling!
Aaron's lips tightened slightly as he answered the call.
"Nora, are you asleep?"
Jack's gentle voice came through the speaker.
Silent for a brief moment, Aaron said softly, "This is Aaron. Nora's in the shower. Is there something I can pass on to her, Doctor Parker?"
