Chapter 928 Pinning Someone Down
Finnegan grinned. "Ms. Harvey, you guys really did your homework on me."
Jane didn't deny it. "Yeah, I dug into your background. Mr. Wright gave up his medical career for me to go into business, so I have to help him nail his first deal."
Finnegan looked at her. "Do you like him?"
Jane's eyes were direct. "Yes, I do."
Finnegan smirked. "So, did you check out my family too?"
Jane nodded. "We did."
Finnegan pressed, "And you found nothing?"
Jane's eyes gleamed. "We found out you have a close relationship with your grandfather."
Finnegan took a bite. "Anything else?"
Jane knew he was testing them, to see if their rescue of Mason was planned or just luck.
She gathered her thoughts. "We learned Mr. Foster likes to drink, so Mr. Wright wanted to cater to that. We studied wine culture and happened to run into Mr. Hayes having a medical emergency. Mr. Wright saved him by chance."
Finnegan glanced at Zephyr, who was coming back after feeding the dog. "So it wasn't planned?"
Jane shook her head. "Nope. Mr. Wright still doesn't know the old man he saved is Mr. Hayes."
Finnegan looked surprised. "Really?"
"Yep," Jane said. "I only found out that night when I got home."
Finnegan raised an eyebrow. "You didn't tell him?"
"No," Jane replied. "I believe he can win you over with his sincerity, not just that favor."
Finnegan laughed. "Ms. Harvey, you're quite the talker."
Jane smiled. "Thanks."
Zephyr walked over, seeing them chatting. "What are you guys talking about?"
Finnegan raised an eyebrow. "Ms. Harvey said you're a man of deep feelings."
Zephyr glanced at Jane, smiled, and refilled Finnegan's wine glass.
Finnegan clinked glasses with him. "Mr. Wright, let's hear your thoughts on this cooperation. Hubert said he wanted to work with me without profit."
Zephyr knew Finnegan was warming up. Holding back his excitement, he said, "Mr. Foster, if we don't ask a penny from this cooperation,, would you truly be willing to work with us?"
Finnegan sipped his wine. "Why not?"
Zephyr explained, "No profit means no motivation. People might cut corners just to get it done quickly. It might seem good at first, but long-term, it's risky. Do you really want a partner like this?"
Zephyr spoke calmly and logically.
Finnegan smiled, impressed. "Looks like you've done your homework."
Zephyr smiled back. "Just being honest."
Finnegan raised his glass. "This wine is really good."
Zephyr replied, "If you like it, I'll make more when you finish it."
Finnegan laughed heartily. "Mr. Wright, with you buttering me up like this, how can I say no?"
Zephyr's heart raced. "Mr. Foster, does that mean you're willing to work with us?"
Finnegan nodded. "You've convinced me. If I still said no, my grandfather would call me ungrateful."
Zephyr was taken aback. "Your grandfather?"
Finnegan smiled and looked at Jane.
Jane stepped in. "Zephyr, remember the old man we saved?"
Zephyr glanced at Finnegan, piecing it together. "Is he your grandfather?"
"Yep, that's my grandpa," Finnegan confirmed.
Finnegan grinned. "Mr. Wright, you're lucky. Without that incident, it would've taken more time to convince me. At least you'd have to make more wine."
Zephyr laughed, appreciating Finnegan's straightforwardness. He was thrilled to have secured the deal.
"Mr. Foster, to our cooperation."
Zephyr stood up, raised his glass, and downed it in one go.
"Take it easy. This wine has a strong kick; don't get too drunk," Finnegan warned.
"No worries, I'm just happy! Let's drink up, Mr. Foster."
Zephyr's eyes sparkled with joy.
"Can't drink too much today. I have plans this afternoon," Finnegan said.
"Alright. Next time, when I make more wine, we'll drink together."
Zephyr toasted again.
"Deal!" Finnegan agreed.
They drank and chatted freely.
Jane sipped her coffee, watching Zephyr's happy face, feeling relieved. She hadn't misjudged him; Zephyr was indeed exceptional.
By the end of the meal, Zephyr was quite drunk but still composed. He talked more than usual but didn't cause any trouble.
Finnegan, being straightforward, signed a letter of intent for cooperation on the spot and invited them to his company the next day to sign the formal contract.
Jane thanked Finnegan on behalf of the drunk Zephyr, then took him home.
In the car, Zephyr sat with his eyes closed, looking like he was asleep.
Jane drove steadily, occasionally glancing at him, worried he might throw up.
Luckily, Zephyr stayed quiet with his eyes closed.
Back at the apartment, Jane helped him onto the bed.
Zephyr's face was flushed, and he was tugging at his clothes with his eyes closed.
"Let me help you."
Jane unbuttoned his shirt, helped him undress, and went to get some hot water to clean him up.
At that moment, Zephyr slowly opened his eyes.
Seeing Jane cleaning him, he grabbed her hand.
Jane was startled. "You're awake?"
Zephyr stared at her silently, then tightened his grip and pulled her onto him, flipping over to pin her beneath him.
His body was hot, and his breath smelled of wine.
Jane looked at the desire in his eyes and asked, "Zephyr, are you awake or still drunk?"
