Chapter 979 Still Wanted to Ruin Aaron and Nora's Relationship?
Johnnie played it cool and started eating first, trying to avoid Gabriella's mood swings that could leave him hungry.
As he ate, Gabriella smiled and rummaged through the wardrobe for something to wear later. She paused, eyeing her new outfits.
"Johnnie, do you like Nora?"
Johnnie nearly choked on his coffee. "Gabriella, what are you getting at?"
She glanced at him. "Why so jumpy? If you don't like her, just say so."
Johnnie took a deep breath. "I respect Mrs. Gordon. Stop jumping to conclusions."
"Can you not twist my words?" Gabriella asked. "I mean, do you prefer women like Nora, who are delicate and refined, or do you like sexier women?"
Johnnie eyed her suspiciously. "Why do you want to know?"
"Just tell me, what kind of women do you like?" Gabriella pressed.
After a moment, Johnnie replied, "I like sexier women."
He didn't dislike girls like Nora, but he feared Gabriella might twist his words and cause trouble. She was too cunning, and he had to be careful.
Gabriella's eyes shifted, and she dropped the subject. She put aside her new clothes and picked something more her style. No need to mimic Nora anymore; better to be herself.
She changed into a magenta dress right in front of Johnnie, then headed to the bathroom to do her makeup. Afterward, she frowned at her straightened hair and decided to curl it back.
Johnnie finished eating and cleaned up. He caught a whiff of perfume and looked up to see Gabriella emerging from the bathroom, looking stunning in her magenta dress and perfect makeup. Her fiery red lips took him back to the day they first met, when she had dressed just as strikingly.
"Why are you staring? Not used to my new look?" Gabriella teased.
Johnnie snapped out of it. "Why the sudden change?"
"Since you figured out my game, no point in pretending," Gabriella said, playing with a strand of hair.
Johnnie asked, "Do you still want to mess with Aaron and Nora's relationship?"
Gabriella's eyes sparkled. "Depends on you!"
"Me?" Johnnie asked, puzzled.
"Yes," Gabriella said, her fingers tracing his chest. "If you serve me well and become my real boyfriend, I won't have time for other men, will I?"
Johnnie wondered what she was plotting now. "That's a lot of pressure."
Gabriella mocked, "How did you become an assistant with such little confidence?"
"It's not about confidence; it's that you're too unpredictable," Johnnie replied.
"Then use your skills to control me!"
Did Gabriella mean he should win her heart? Johnnie stayed silent, trying to figure her out.
In a flash, Gabriella switched gears again, making it tough to read her.
"Alright, are you done eating? If so, let's go shopping."
She dropped the previous topic, grabbed her stuff, and gracefully left. Johnnie followed.
Once in the car, he asked, "Where to?"
Gabriella buckled up. "Let's go to the mall where you had the nail polish delivered."
Johnnie glanced at her but said nothing and drove off.
Gabriella asked, "Aren't you curious why I want to go there?"
Johnnie replied, "Assistant's rule: do more, talk less."
Gabriella said, "I'm not Aaron."
Johnnie shot back, "You're harder to serve than Aaron!"
Gabriella was speechless, staring at his profile before turning to the window, clearly frustrated.
'Is she mad?' Johnnie thought, smirking.
"Why do you want to go to that mall?"
Gabriella sneered but stayed silent.
Johnnie guessed, "You want to show off that I got all that nail polish for you?"
Gabriella sneered. "Yeah, I want everyone to know you're my simp now."
Johnnie kept driving without a word.
At Grand Central Mall, Gabriella headed for the direct elevator.
"The nail polish counter is on the first floor," Johnnie reminded.
Gabriella shot him a look. "Do you want everyone to know you're my simp that badly?"
Johnnie was speechless. Wasn't it her idea to flaunt it? He was just trying to help.
Gabriella was indeed unpredictable.
He braced himself for whatever was next.
In the elevator, Gabriella pressed the button for the third floor, the women's clothing section.
"Buying clothes?" Johnnie asked.
"Yeah, I don't like the ones I got in Youston. Need to replace them," Gabriella said indifferently.
Johnnie's eyes flickered. The clothes she bought were probably Nora-inspired. Now she wanted to ditch that style.
The elevator reflected Gabriella's bright, beautiful face. Johnnie wondered if she truly wanted to let go of her grudges and stop sabotaging Aaron and Nora.
They reached the third floor, and Gabriella wandered into a store. Johnnie followed.
"Welcome," the sales assistant greeted warmly.
Gabriella glanced at Johnnie. "Help me pick something."
"Me?"
"Yes, let's see if we're on the same page."
Johnnie scanned the store. "Nothing here suits you."
Gabriella raised an eyebrow. "Why?"
Johnnie replied, "The style here is more youthful."
Gabriella's smile froze. "Are you saying I look old?"
"No, your style is sexier. This place is more for young professionals."
