Chapter 1107 The Breakup Hit You Hard

Alfred was like, "I can't remember her name, just that she's your schoolmate."

Samantha shot back, "You had dinner with her and you don't even remember her name?"

Alfred shrugged, "I don't bother remembering people who don't matter."

Samantha, without missing a beat, asked, "If she's so unimportant, why'd you have dinner with her?"

Alfred glanced at Samantha, thinking about how he only agreed to dinner with Lykke to see her reaction. But he knew if he said that, she'd feel pressured.

So, he switched it up, "I was just bored, honestly."

Samantha, thinking about the message she just saw, asked, "She's asking you to go camping now. You going?"

Alfred shot back, "Do you wanna go?"

Samantha was speechless. "She asked you, and you're asking me?"

Alfred said, "If you wanna go, we'll go together."

Samantha looked at him, puzzled. "Why would I go? Don't you get she wants to date you?"

"I've already told her I like someone else."

'That someone else is me,' Samantha thought, her gaze freezing before she looked away.

Alfred quickly added, "Sorry, Samantha, I didn't mean anything by it. Who I like is my business, you don't need to feel burdened."

Samantha had already guessed it from the note Alfred left for Lykke. She took a deep breath. "Alfred, we need to talk."

Alfred looked at her. "Okay, shoot."

Samantha said, "I just broke up, so I'm not looking to date anyone right now. Don't waste your time on me because I don't know when I'll be ready to date again."

Alfred had been worried she'd tell him to stay away forever.

But Samantha didn't sound particularly resistant. She was just being honest. He quickly said, "What a coincidence, I'm not thinking about dating either. Samantha, can we just go back to being good friends like before?"

Samantha glanced at Alfred. "Alfred, you don't have to sweet-talk me."

"I'm serious. I just want to be friends again." He had waited for Samantha for so long, he didn't mind waiting a bit longer, as long as she wouldn't be so embarrassed by his confession that she'd stop talking to him.

Seeing Alfred's sincere eyes, Samantha didn't know how to respond for a moment.

'Knowing that Alfred has feelings for me, can our relationship really go back to the way it was?' Samantha thought, 'If we didn't go back, would I just distance myself from Alfred? I like him as a good friend. There's no need to purposely avoid him.'

Thinking this, Samantha's mood brightened. "What do you mean go back to being friends? We've always been friends. We were before, we are now, and we will be in the future! So there's no going back, okay?"

Seeing Samantha talk to him with the same liveliness and freedom as before, Alfred immediately smiled. "Right, we've always been friends, my bad. Let's go buy some stuff."

Samantha was taken aback. "Buy what?"

"Camping gear."

Samantha looked at him. "You're going camping with Lykke?"

"Yeah, we're going together."

Samantha shook her head. "I'm not going."

Alfred grinned, "Samantha, aren't we buddies? I came all this way, shouldn't you show some hospitality?"

Samantha hesitated, "But she invited you to go camping, not me."

Alfred said, "When did you get so shy? We're all young, what's wrong with hanging out together? I'll invite Ryan too."

Alfred made it sound so reasonable, Samantha thought it wasn't a bad idea. So she nodded. "Alright."

Alfred smiled, sent an OK emoji to Lykke, and told her he was bringing two friends along.

Lykke also replied with an OK.

"Then I'll go change clothes," Samantha said.

"Okay." Alfred watched her walk away, a smile flashing in his eyes. Hopefully, from now on, Samantha could be as happy as she used to be, like a little princess.

Taking out his phone, Alfred dialed Ryan's number. "Ryan, let's go camping tonight."

Ryan said, "You're inviting me to go camping? No way, are you switching preferences because of a breakup and extending the clutches of evil towards me? Let me tell you, I'm a straight guy!"

Ryan's tone was exaggerated, and Alfred knew he was joking. In a good mood, Alfred joked back with him. "Even if I liked guys, I wouldn't be interested in you."

"Why not? Am I that bad?" Ryan asked curiously.

Alfred was waiting for this. "So you were hoping to be approached by a guy?"

Ryan took a breath. "So breakups can make people sharp-tongued?"

Alfred laughed. "So, see you tonight?"

"Wait, you haven't explained why you suddenly want to go camping?" Ryan asked.

"Oh, Samantha's schoolmate invited me to go camping. I'm bringing Samantha along, and I thought you'd make her feel more comfortable, so I'm bringing you too," Alfred said honestly.

Ryan laughed. "So I'm the extra, huh?"

"No, you're very important."

"If I'm just an extra, how am I important?"

"With you there, Samantha will feel at ease. How can you not be important?"

Ryan laughed out loud. "Wow, your tongue is so sharp! Alfred, the breakup hit you hard."

Alfred replied, "I didn't break up."

"If you didn't break up, did Samantha accept you and you two started dating?"

"Our relationship is back to the way it was, we're friends."

Ryan started teasing him again, "Oh, so you're taking her camping? Sit together on the mountaintop under the stars with a cool breeze, how romantic."

Alfred laughed. "You can bring a date too."

Ryan clicked his tongue. "Alfred, you're so bad! You want me to bring a date to show affection in front of you two, to stimulate Samantha and make her throw herself at you?"

Ryan's words seemed to make some sense. Alfred wanted to continue talking to him, but seeing Samantha come out after changing clothes, he stopped. "Think about it, I have to go out with Samantha now."

"You're going to buy camping gear?" Ryan asked.

"Yes."

"No need to buy a tent, I have several."

"Okay, we'll go buy some food."

"Alright, see you tonight."

Hanging up the phone, Alfred said, "Ready?"

"Yes, were you talking to Ryan?" Samantha asked.

"Yeah."

Samantha nodded and went out with Alfred.

The two of them entered the supermarket near the neighborhood together.

Alfred pushed a cart and asked, "Wanna sit in it?"
