Chapter 610 Seeking Sympathy

Evella nodded and said, "Fortunately, I still have an uncle. However, Uncle Richard said that he couldn't publicly acknowledge our relationship for now. In front of others, he will recognize me as his goddaughter," Evella explained.

Upon hearing this, Nora was puzzled.

"Why?" she inquired.

Evella replied, "Nora, you must have heard the rumors about my dad, Zack. My father was a rapist."

Nora furrowed her brows, probing, "Is there a misunderstanding in all of this?"

Evella responded, "Half of it is true."

She recounted to Nora what Richard had told her about Zack, explaining the situation.

Nora listened attentively, feeling a wave of emotions.

Sometimes, fate had a cruel way of playing tricks on people.

Zack had a good nature but was compelled to commit a grave mistake.

"Well done!" Applause echoed around them.

Evella and Nora stopped their conversation and turned to see Howard being knocked down by Richard on the stage.

Both Nora and Evella were taken aback, then hurriedly walked towards them.

"Godfather, stop, don't compete with Howard anymore!" Evella shouted.

Breathless, Richard looked at the fallen Howard and asked, "Do you want to continue?"

Howard, sweating profusely with cuts on his lips, looked defiant.

He stood up, glanced at Evella, wiped the sweat off his forehead, and gritted his teeth, saying, "Let's go again."

"Alright, let's continue!" Richard prepared for the challenge.

Seeing the two about to continue, Evella became anxious. She said, "Don't compete anymore. Howard, come down; I have something to tell you."

"After the fight." Howard, who had just been knocked down, naturally refused to back down.

Being defeated in front of a woman he liked by a rival was too embarrassing.

Howard had to regain his dignity!

"If you don't listen to me, I'll be mad at you!" Evella threatened sternly when she couldn't persuade Howard.

Upon hearing this, Howard furrowed his brows.

Seeing Evella's anxious and stern expression, he decided to play along.

Howard touched his chest, frowned, and said weakly, "Evella, please don't be angry. I won't compete with Richard."

Seeing Howard's pained expression, Evella thought that he was injured, feeling both worried and sympathetic.

"Are you in pain? Then come down," she said.

Howard agreed, saying, "Come help me down."

Pretending to endure the pain, Howard looked pitiful.

Evella quickly went to the exit to assist Howard.

Meanwhile, Richard took off his boxing gloves and watched Howard feign weakness with a mocking smile.

What was Howard doing, seeking sympathy when he couldn't win?

But his behavior seemed to be working!

While watching the scene, Nora rubbed her temples, but she found it hard to watch.

If Howard knew who he was provoking, she couldn't imagine his reaction.

Playing the victim to gain her sympathy in front of her uncle was a disastrous move.

Nora shivered suddenly.

"Nora, why are you here too?" Howard was assisted by Evella, asking.

Nora was speechless and blurted out, "I came to see how you would die."

Cathcing herself on her improper words, she quickly amended. "No, Evella asked me to come and watch."

Evella pouted and said, "Nora, I didn't ask you to watch. I asked you clearly to help check if Howard has internal injuries."

Nora could tell Howard was fine without checking; Evella was overreacting.

But since Howard wanted play the victim, Nora decided to play along.

Thinking this, Nora checked on Howard, frowning intentionally without saying a word.

Seeing this, Evella became nervous.

"Nora, how is he? Did Howard really sustain internal injuries?" she asked anxiously.

Nora stopped and poked Howard's chest, asking, "Does it hurt?"

Howard, sensing her teasing, nodded seriously. "Yes, it hurts."

Nora remarked, "He's indeed injured."

At that moment, Richard walked over to them.

Evella was annoyed, scolding, "Godfather, why did you have to be so rough on him? He's a doctor who usually performs surgeries, not someone who engages in these activities."

Richard was speechless.

He had been too harsh on Howard?

Howard was still putting on a show of being in pain!

"Evella, such a weak man is of no use. He won't be able to protect you in the future. You should break up with him soon," Richard advised.

Richard was once again trying to persuade Evella to break up with Howard.

Howard's expression turned cold. He said, "Mr. Rogers, this isn't an era where strength is everything. Protection doesn't always require physical force; intelligence suffices."

Richard looked at him, saying, "So, you think you're intelligent."

"Yes," Howard replied.

Richard chuckled mockingly, "Howard, you're no different from a brute. No, you're worse than a brute. At least a brute has physical strength, but you lack both physical and intellectual prowess. Pathetic!"

Howard retorted, "Even if I lack intelligence, I'm still better off than you."

"That's debatable," Richard replied.

Nora thought, 'Howard is indeed brainless.'

How dared he challenge Richard without even figuring out who he was!

"Alright, stop arguing," Evella intervened as she saw Richard and Howard about to start another argument.

"Howard, go change your clothes. I'll take you to the hospital," she said.

Upon hearing the mention of the hospital, Howard's face finally showed a hint of unease.

"Evella, there's no need to go to the hospital. I just need to rest," he insisted.

Evella insisted, "You can't skip the hospital if you have internal injuries."

Nora chimed in, "Yes, Howard, you should go to the hospital for an X-ray and a scan to check your condition."

Howard glanced at Nora, feeling speechless.

Nora just wanted to see him in a predicament. She knew he wasn't really injured.

"Nora, you're a good doctor. You can prescribe some medicine for me to take when I get home," Howard said.

Nora suppressed a smile and said, "That works. But I'm quite busy lately, so I might not have time to make medicine for you and take care of you. How about I give the prescription to Evella? Evella, can you make medicine for Howard and take care of him?"

Nora was creating a chance for Evella and Howard to get along!

After a moment of hesitation, Evella nodded and said, "Sure."

Watching the exchange, Richard raised an eyebrow and said, "It's not that serious. I'm not a professional boxer; I wouldn't have caused internal injuries to Howard with just one punch."

Evella's beautiful eyes glared at Richard; she said, "It's because you're not professional that you  hurt him accidentally!"

She looked at Richard with an upset expression as if accusing him of causing trouble for Howard.

Richard was speechless.

Evella was easily deceived by Howard.

He couldn't bear to leave Evella in the hands of Howard, who could do nothing more than pretend to be weak.
