Chapter 888 Curse Her
Matteo was gaining on them!
Zephyr's heart pounded. He instinctively stepped aside, pulling Jane into his arms.
Jane hesitated but didn't pull away. Instead, she turned with him to look back.
Matteo was chasing them, gun in hand.
He looked a mess, his eyes filled with pure hatred as he glared at Jane.
Jane let go of Zephyr and stepped in front of him.
"Matteo, this is between us. Leave him out of it."
Matteo aimed the gun at Jane, eyes burning with resentment.
"Leave him out of it? What about the people who treated you like family for three years? What did they get?"
Jane stayed calm. "Their hands were dirty. They weren't innocent."
Matteo's eyes narrowed with venom.
"You still don't get it, do you? All their care for you meant nothing?"
Jane pressed her lips together. "I'm sorry."
Matteo's hatred deepened. "Fine, then there's nothing left to say."
He glanced at Zephyr. "Pretty boy, I'll give you one chance. Curse her out, and I'll let you go."
Zephyr stepped aside, smiling slightly.
"I've said it before, Jane's my girlfriend. I can't insult her."
Matteo's face darkened. "You said you were pretending to be a couple to make me let you go. Now you're changing your story. Do you think Jane can save you?"
"I..."
"Yes, we are pretending."
Jane cut Zephyr off. "Matteo, if he curses me, will you let him go?"
Matteo sneered and nodded. "Yes. I want to hear him use the worst words."
Jane looked at Zephyr. "Go ahead, curse me."
Zephyr frowned and whispered, "Jane, are you crazy? Do you think he'll let me go if I curse you?"
Jane whispered back, "We need to buy time."
Her hand slowly reached for the gun at her waist.
Zephyr understood and took a deep breath before starting to curse.
"Jane, you ugly woman, nobody wants you. It's a shame to be your boyfriend. If I had another choice, I would have dump you already! I must have been blind to choose you."
Jane was speechless, even though she knew he was stalling.
'Is this how he really feels?' she wondered.
"Can I go now?"
Zephyr wanted to curse more but ran out of words.
Matteo laughed at his curses.
Just as Matteo was about to speak, Jane took advantage of his distraction and quickly pulled out her gun, shooting him in the chest.
Matteo's laughter stopped. He staggered back and fired at Jane.
Jane dodged and fired again.
Matteo didn't dodge and fired two more shots.
The bullets grazed Jane's fingers, making her drop her gun.
Zephyr hid, his heart racing as he saw Jane's gun fall.
Without a weapon, Jane was at Matteo's mercy!
Matteo, clutching his chest, aimed his gun at Jane, ready to take her down with him.
Jane had just shot Matteo, and Zephyr knew he was running on fumes.
Matteo roared, "Jane, go to hell!"
Zephyr's eyes widened, and he lunged at Jane.
Two gunshots echoed, and Zephyr's body went rigid as pain shot through him.
Jane's eyes widened, and she held him tightly, cursing, "Zephyr, are you insane? Why'd you take the bullet for me?"
Zephyr's face twisted in pain, but he managed a smile. "You're my girlfriend. What kind of man would I be if I just stood by? What would people think of me?"
Jane's eyes softened. "Zephyr, hang in there. I'll get you to a hospital!"
Zephyr spat out blood, his breathing ragged.
"Jane, I might..."
Before he could finish, he passed out.
"Zephyr!"
For once, Jane's usually calm eyes showed panic.
Across from them, Matteo burst into maniacal laughter.
"Is the pretty boy dead? How does it feel to watch the one you love die?"
Blood continued to pour from Matteo's chest. Using his last bit of strength, he aimed his gun at Jane.
Jane looked up, her eyes cold.
She gently laid Zephyr down, quickly picked up the fallen gun, and aimed at Matteo.
Two gunshots rang out, and the bullets pierced Matteo's chest.
Matteo staggered back, glaring at her.
His gun fell from his hand, and he collapsed to the ground with a thud.
Jane pressed her lips together, ignoring Matteo, and quickly checked Zephyr's breathing.
Zephyr's breathing was weak, but he was still alive.
"Zephyr, hold on. You have to hold on!"
At that moment, a group of military personnel surrounded them.
"Are you Ms. Harvey?" the leading officer, dressed in camouflage, asked.
"Yes, I am. My boyfriend is seriously injured. Can you take him to the best hospital?" Jane asked quickly.
"Yes, come with us."
The leading officer called over a soldier to carry Zephyr.
The group quickly left the area.
Soon, a military plane landed, and the officer led them onto the plane, heading straight to the military hospital.
Watching Zephyr being taken into the emergency room, Jane's heart was in her throat.
Zephyr had been shot twice, once in the shoulder and once in the back.
She didn't know if any vital organs were hit.
"Ms. Harvey, you're covered in blood. Do you need a check-up?" the officer asked.
Jane, worried about Zephyr, was distracted.
"I'm fine."
Most of the blood on her was Zephyr's.
She was very worried about Zephyr.
Jane steadied herself and called Nora.
At that moment, Nora was also waiting for news, so she quickly answered the call.
"Jane, how is Zephyr? Did you rescue him?"
"I did, but he was shot and is now at the military hospital."
Jane paused. "Dr. Smith, Zephyr lost a lot of blood. I don't know if any vital organs were hit. I'm very worried about him."
Nora was silent for a moment. "Do you want me to come and treat Zephyr?"
