Chapter 345 Are You and Edric Conspiring
Nora glanced at Edric and said, "I'll be right there."
Ending the call, she said nothing, her expression blank as she turned and walked away.
Edric hurried to follow her. "Doctor Smith, hear me out..." he tried to explain.
Nora walked briskly, having just encountered the same two security guards she'd met earlier. She had freed them from their restraints, and then swiftly left.
The two security guards wanted to curse, but intimidated by Nora's skill with acupuncture, and seeing Edric following behind, they didn't dare say anything. Acknowledging their bad luck, they took off.
Edric had no time for other matters and kept trying to explain to Nora. "Doctor Smith, you really got it all wrong. There's nothing going on between me and Anna Scott."
Nora didn't stop walking, replying with strong sarcasm, "Oh really? Didn’t you tell Jen you were going on a business trip to Bescosarst? So, what are you doing here in Lindwood City?”
She was not mistaken, the man she saw in the restaurant was indeed Edric. And the woman with him at the time was Anna Scott.
Anna Scott must be the pretty lead singer of the band.
‘Men’, she thought. ‘Nine out of ten men are mostly bad, and the tenth is beloved by everyone.’
I thought with you, I was trusting in a good man but that was a mistake.
"I did go to B city on business," Edric tried to explain, "but then the client had to come to Lindwood City, and I ended up here as well."
Unmoved, Nora responded coldly, "Keep making up stories!"
Edric, anxious, said, "Doctor Smith, I'm not making it up. I swear to heaven, if I am lying, may lightning..."
"You don't have to swear. If heaven could really intervene, there wouldn't be so many heartbreakers around," Nora interrupted him coldly.
Edric, feeling helpless, said, "Doctor Smith, what do I need to do to make you believe me?"
Nora's face was icy, "I will never believe you, Mr. Hawk. You'd better come clean to Jen about this and leave her of your own accord!" With that, she quickened her pace and left the gym.
At the entrance, Aaron was waiting for her. His tall and imposing figure stood out under the glow of the lights.
When Aaron saw Nora and Edric emerging one after the other, he was slightly taken aback.
"Edric?"
Upon seeing Aaron, Edric's face lit up as if he had seen a savior. "Aaron, please, you have got to convince Doctor Smith. I am truly innocent!" he implored.
Aaron was quite perplexed, looking towards Nora with a questioning glance. "What happened?"
"Ask him." Nora couldn't be bothered to repeat the whole incident.
‘Such a nuisance.’ Aaron thought as his gaze shifted back to Edric.
Helplessly, Edric began, "I came to meet Anna Scott, and Doctor Smith caught me."
Aaron's dark eyes were steady, "Why did you come to see Anna Scott? Are you looking to get back together with her?"
Edric fell silent for a moment, "No way! I'm in the middle of a deal with a partner who's a big fan of B.Love, the band. I just wanted to win them over, hoping that the band could perform privately for the partner to help seal the deal. That's why I met Anna Scott."
Aaron looked at him, seeing the sincerity in his speech, and believed him.
However, his belief was of no use; Nora didn't buy it.
She turned to Edric with a scornful tone, "Seal your deal? Do you need to use your charm to coax the band into this meeting?"
Edric choked a bit, upset, he rebutted, "I did no such thing! Doctor Smith, you've really got the wrong idea. I was just helping Sue with the zipper on the back of her dress."
Nora raised her hand in a 'stop' gesture.
"Mr. Hawk, you don't owe me any explanations, but I'll say this again, please find a suitable reason to break up with Jen as soon as possible. Say your parents don't accept her, so it's over,” she stated.
Saying this would at least be better than telling Jen that Edric was two-timing her, looking to reunite with an old flame.
Jenny had already gone through heartbreak once; they couldn't rub salt into her wounds again.
Edric grew serious and said, "Doctor Smith, I can't do what you're asking. I won't break up with Jen. Believe it or not, I love Jen now, and I want to spend my life with her."
Hearing this, a flash of anger crossed Nora's eyes.
"Mr. Hawk, don't push it! Anna Scott bragged to me, claiming she is your first love. I remember now, Aaron mentioned that back in the day, you two were deeply in love. You were so affected by her that you turned into the playboy 'Young Master' who never settled down.
"First loves are like permanent marks on your heart, the women one finds unforgettable. Now that she's back, you can't let go of her again, can you? And Jen, the poor girl, seems fit only to be the wife at home while you want to have your fun on the side—isn’t that so?"
Edric was at a loss for words. "Doctor Smith, I really don't have any such intentions. Let me say it again, today's incident was just a misunderstanding!" he insisted, stubbornly.
"You!" Nora began, on the verge of losing her temper.
"All right, Nora, calm down. Maybe you really have misunderstood Edric," Aaron interjected, seeing the tension between the two rising.
Nora turned sharply to him, "Aaron, you believe him?"
Something flashed through her mind. Now she realized why Anna Scott looked so familiar!
A month ago, she and Aaron were kicked out of Quinn's mansion by Hollis, and then they went to the Hinton Club.
The woman with the Turner's little young master, wasn't that Anna Scott?
"Nora, I understand Edric's character, he..." Aaron started to explain but was cut off by Nora.
"No need to say more, Aaron. A month ago, at the Hinton Club, did you already recognize Anna Scott?" She remembered, at that time Aaron watched the two depart and was silent for a long time.
She thought he was pondering the Turner family's matters, but now she realized that he was actually looking at Anna Scott. And yesterday, when she mentioned the band, Aaron also seemed very familiar with them.
So, he had always known about Anna Scott yet he kept it from her!
"That day I did recognize Anna Scott," Aaron admitted, noticing the fire in Nora's eyes and feeling a chill down his spine, a bad premonition creeping up on him.
"So, was it you who tipped off Edric, trying to get those two back together?" Nora accused.
Aaron was speechless. Such a huge accusation!
"Nora, I didn't!" he denied, profusely.
"Didn't?" Nora scoffed coldly. "Edric is your best friend, and you know very well how deeply he once cared for Anna Scott. A month ago, you learned Anna Scott had returned to the country, and you didn't rush to inform your buddy to rekindle their past romance?"
Suddenly, Aaron felt like he was in a snowstorm in June.
"Nora, am I a fool to you? Even though I knew Anna Scott had returned, I certainly never told Edric about it, much less tried to get them back together. Right, Edric?" Aaron explained.
Edric nodded quickly, "Yes, that's right."
Nora sneered, "You two are best friends, who knows if you're covering for each other?"
Aaron was at a loss for words, his gaze turning frosty as it swept towards Edric. He felt like he was being led to the gallows by his friend!
Had he known it would turn out like this, he never would have gone out of his way to smooth things over for him just a moment ago.
Edric looked innocently aggrieved. Who knew Doctor Smith could jump to such wild conclusions!
