Chapter 862 You Had Got Your Eye on Someone Else
"I can tell Dr. Smith is genuinely kind-hearted and beautiful," Tomas said bluntly.
Seeing Nora's slightly uncomfortable expression, he added, "Dr. Smith, thank you for curing Mateo."
Nora's eyes flickered, and she lowered her head a bit. "Saving lives is a doctor's duty, King Tomas. You're too kind."
She didn't take credit, keeping her response vague.
Tomas continued, "Seems Mateo was lucky. He said he met you by chance and that's how he got treated, right?"
Nora smiled slightly, still being vague. "Prince Mateo is blessed; God will protect him."
Tomas nodded. "Yes, Mateo is indeed blessed. I consulted countless doctors. They all failed to cure him, but you, Dr. Smith, managed to do it so quickly."
Nora glanced up at Tomas. His old eyes were sharp. Though his words seemed ordinary, there was something off about them. Was Tomas questioning her medical skills? Did he not believe she cured Mateo?
A spark of intrigue flickered in Nora's eyes as she chose her words carefully. "Prince Mateo's illness wasn't difficult; it just needed the right treatment. I used a special method, stimulating the relevant points to restore his clarity."
"Apparently, no doctors here are skilled in this treatment. Just like no doctors here could cure Mr. Rochet's infertility."
Nora smoothly shifted the topic to Hugo's condition. Sure enough, Tomas's attention was diverted. He looked at Hugo, a hint of interest in his eyes.
"Hugo, you have infertility?"
"Yes, King Tomas, Dr. Smith is treating me," Hugo replied honestly, though a bit embarrassed.
"So, you haven't had children because of this issue?"
When they arrived, Mateo had naturally briefed Tomas on Hugo's family situation, so Tomas knew Hugo had no children.
Hugo felt another wave of embarrassment and replied, "Yes."
Tomas glanced at Millie, who was holding Aisha's hand and looking at him curiously, and spoke again, "So you secretly brought Stov's child back from Chrisland, planning to raise her as your own?"
Hugo's heart skipped a beat, and he forced a smile. "Uncle Diego and Aunt Mia asked me to do this. They lost their only son, Stov, and now Millie is their only bloodline. They wanted raise her."
Tomas waved his hand dismissively. "Hugo, you're a sensible person. You need to think long-term and not be short-sighted."
"Hchilia and Chrisland are allies; we shouldn't harm the relationship between our countries over trivial matters. You should listen to the child's wishes. If she wants to go back to Chrisland with Dr. Smith and Mr. Gordon, you must not stop her, understood?"
"Yes," Hugo responded respectfully.
Tomas was satisfied; his purpose for coming was achieved. "Dr. Smith, thank you again for curing my son. I'll have Mateo host a banquet to properly thank you both."
Nora smiled and said, "Thank you, King Tomas and Prince Mateo, for your kindness."
"Let's leave it at that. You all are busy; we'll take our leave." Tomas stood up and added, "Dr. Smith, if you need anything in the future, just tell Mateo. If he can do it, he will."
"Thank you, King Tomas," Nora thanked him again.
"Let's go," Tomas said to Mateo.
"Yes."
Mateo gave Nora a deep look before leaving with Tomas. A group of people escorted them out, and the tense atmosphere finally eased.
Hugo wiped the sweat from his forehead and looked at Nora. "Dr. Smith, you're amazing, even able to cure Prince Mateo's condition."
Nora smiled. "Just lucky."
Aaron glanced at Hugo and asked, "Hugo, if we want to take Millie now, will you stop us?"
Hugo sighed. "Mr. Gordon, do you think I dare?"
Hugo naturally didn't dare. So even if Nora couldn't cure his infertility, Hugo wouldn't dare to keep Millie any longer.
Aaron smiled lightly and glanced at Millie. Originally, this outcome should have been a happy one for everyone.
James was very excited; he didn't expect Tomas to come and speak on their behalf. He picked up Millie and said, "Millie, would you like to leave here with us now?"
Millie blinked her big eyes and twisted her little body to look at Jasmine. "Auntie Jasmine, are you coming?"
Jasmine, being called out, instinctively glanced at Hugo. Hugo squinted his eyes, a hint of danger in them.
Jasmine quickly said, "Millie, I told you, this is my hometown. I'm not leaving."
Millie frowned and opened her arms to Jasmine. "Auntie Jasmine, hug me."
Although Millie didn't say it explicitly, it was clear that if Jasmine didn't leave, she wouldn't want to go back with Nora and the others.
James held Millie tightly, his gaze falling on Jasmine's face, wanting to ask if she would come with him, but he swallowed the words. He and Jasmine were practically strangers.
Asking her to come with him now was meaningless. Jasmine definitely wouldn't want to go with him.
James suppressed his eagerness and handed Millie to Jasmine. Seeing his actions, Nora felt a bit relieved. She had been worried that James might impulsively try to take Millie away. But fortunately, he was rational and didn't do that.
Aaron looked at James's unruly, handsome face, smiling lightly. As a man, he understood James's thoughts. James actually wanted to take Millie away immediately, but he held back. James knew that the key now was Jasmine. Only if Jasmine was willing to go with him could he successfully take Millie.
As long as James could be patient, he could make Jasmine willingly go with him.
Hugo looked at Jasmine and also saw the key to the problem. Tomas specifically came to remind him to listen to Millie's wishes. Hugo was really afraid Millie would immediately want to leave with Nora and the others. Now, Millie was very attached to Jasmine. If Jasmine didn't leave, Millie might not leave either. Therefore, he needed to give Jasmine a good talking to.
In the evening, Nora and Aaron decided to return to the hotel. Hugo didn't keep them. Later that night, he went to Jasmine's room alone.
Seeing Hugo suddenly appear in her room, Jasmine was surprised. "Mr. Roche, why are you in my room tonight?"
Hugo looked at her and asked, "Jasmine, what do you mean by this? Don't you want me in your room? Have you got your eye on someone else?"
Jasmine's heart skipped a beat, and she quickly shook her head. "No, I know I belong to you."
