Chapter 518 You're Finished

Nora glanced at Matthew, becoming more certain that his identity was not simple. But for now, she put that aside and found it strange that the vagrant was still in pain.

Why did he first harm himself and then reach out to her? With the security guard restraining the vagrant, Nora felt safe enough to approach.

"Who are you? Why did you hurt yourself?" she asked.

The vagrant stared at her, saying, "Come a little closer, and I'll tell you,"

Frederick quickly intervened, "Dr. Smith, don't go near him." He was concerned for her safety.

"It's fine," Nora said and considered the vagrant's restrained state. She kicked the knife away and moved closer.

"What is it?" she asked.

The vagrant continued, "Come a bit closer, and I'll tell only you."

Nora hesitated but moved closer. "All right, you can tell me now," she said.

Suddenly, the man smirked and spat at Nora, who instinctively closed her eyes.

Frederick quickly pulled her back.

"Are you all right, Dr. Smith?" he asked.

Nora, with a wrinkled brow, wiped her face with a tissue.

‘Is he insane? He spat at me without saying anything!’ she thought.

"You are finished! I have AIDS, and all of you are finished!" the vagrant suddenly burst into laughter.

Nora was stunned. What did he say? He has AIDS, which can be transmitted through sex, blood, and even saliva. Did she just get infected?

The security guard, controlling the vagrant, glanced at his injured hand and instinctively let go of him. Fortunately, he didn't touch the vagrant's wound. Otherwise, he would be doomed!

As soon as the guard released him, the vagrant rushed toward Nora.

Frederick, who was on high alert, kicked him away before he could get close. Just then, a car came speeding by. With a loud bang, the vagrant was once again sent flying by the impact.

Nora watched in shock, her face pale. Matthew, who was nearby, gave a cold look to the guard who had let go of the vagrant.

The guard realized his mistake and apologized with his head down.

Matthew then instructed another guard, "You stay here and handle the situation."

"Yes," the guard responded and quickly walked toward the center of the road, making sure no one approached the vagrant while also calling for help.

"Dr. Smith, you need to go to the hospital," Matthew said seriously. Nora's face turned pale, and her heart raced.

The vagrant had spat on her, and now she might have been infected with the AIDS virus! Thinking of this, she quickly took two steps back, away from Frederick and Matthew.

"Don't come near me; I might have been infected," she said.

Matthew's face was grave, but he reassured her softly, "No, the risk of saliva transmission from an AIDS patient is relatively small. Now, let me accompany you to the hospital for a check-up."

Nora, being a doctor, was naturally aware, but she was still afraid. As she watched Matthew approach, she noticed the blood on his hand.

Nora asked nervously, "Mr. Jones, the blood on your hand..."

She suddenly remembered that when the vagrant rushed toward her, Matthew pushed him away. Was the blood on his hand from the vagrant?

Nora's voice trembled as she asked, "Mr. Jones, do you have any wounds on your hand?"

If he had a wound, he would definitely be infected by the AIDS patient. If not, there was still a chance that he might not be infected.

Matthew lowered his head, slowly raised his right hand, and said, "Yes."

It turned out that last night, when he was juicing for his daughter, he accidentally cut his hand while slicing fruit. Perhaps this was fate.

God knew he didn't want to live, so he arranged for this to happen. Now, even if he found a cure, it would be useless because the mortality rate of AIDS is ninety-nine percent.

Once infected, it would lead to the collapse of the immune system. Any bacteria could potentially infect the body, accelerating death.

Nora looked at Matthew, her face ashen, and didn't say a word.

Frederick quickly called Aaron, explaining the situation briefly.

After hanging up, he signaled for Nora to get in the car, as he wanted to take her to the hospital for a check-up.

"Dr. Smith, please get in the car," Matthew urged.

"Mr. Jones, you keep up too. There are always exceptions to things; you might not necessarily have been infected," Nora reassured him, coming back to her senses.

Matthew smiled faintly, keeping silent, and got into his car. Nora got into Frederick's car, her mind blank.

Just then, she received Aaron’s call.

"Nora, don't be afraid. I'm coming back right away," his urgent voice said, carrying the familiar tenderness she knew.

Nora felt tears welling up, saying, "Aaron, what if I get infected?"

"It won't happen. The transmission of AIDS through saliva is low; you won't get infected," Aaron comforted her.

"But what if?" Nora asked tearfully.

"If you were infected, I wouldn't leave you. I would stay by your side," Aaron reassured her.

Nora covered her mouth, tears streaming down her face. If she were infected, she wouldn't selfishly let him stay with her.

Because at that point, she would be a carrier of the virus, with the constant risk of spreading it.

But the thought of having to watch him from afar in the future, unable to be as close as before, pained her deeply.

"Nora, don't cry. Trust me, you'll be fine," Aaron said in a gentle yet firm tone.

Nora took a deep breath and said, "Okay, I'll hang up now."

She glanced at the scenery outside the window, then closed her eyes, silently praying that both she and Matthew would be okay.

Four hours later, the car arrived at Imperial City Hospital.

Matthew didn't dare to hold Erin; instead, he had another bodyguard who had been waiting there early to accompany her in the car.

Meanwhile, Aaron arrived at the hospital by private plane.

When Nora got out of the car, Aaron walked briskly towards her.

"Don't come closer," Nora shouted and quickly stepped back.

Frowning, Aaron said, "Nora..."

"Listen to me! If you dare to come near me, I won't speak to you for the rest of my life!" Nora cut him off, her expression resolute.

Helpless, Aaron took a few steps back and said, "Fine, I won't come near you."

Nora looked at him warily, then quickly walked into the hospital, heading to the infectious diseases department with Matthew for blood tests. The test results would be available in half an hour, so they waited there.
