Chapter 311 Breaking Up with the Man Who Betrayed You
"What's your idea?" Ebenezer asked urgently.
"Uncle, I recall that you and Aunt once lost a daughter, right? We could announce that Nora was your daughter who supposedly died," Aaron suggested.
Ebenezer was taken aback, hesitating. "But the child succumbed to leukemia, and many high-society individuals in A Lindwood City aware of this. I'm afraid that might not be feasible..." he said.
"Uncle, here's what we could say," Aaron interjected, understanding Ebenezer's reservations. He had already thought through his explanation.
"The child who fell seriously ill wasn't truly your biological child. An enemy of yours conspired with a nurse to switch your child at birth. Over the years, you've been secretly searching for your real daughter, and now you've finally found her."
This explanation lit a spark in Ebenezer's eyes. It was a good one!
But he was still somewhat unsure, and asked, "Aaron, can we truly pull this off?"
"I don't see why not," Aaron responded confidently. "I'll take care of the necessary paperwork concerning Nora's birth. You don't need to worry about that. The only issue is whether Aunt will agree."
After all, it wasn't just Ebenezer's decision to accept Nora back into the family. Emma's consent was also crucial.
Ebenezer's face tensed up as he thought of his wife's attitude towards Nora and he said quietly, "I'll persuade her."
Aaron nodded, "Then there's no problem."
If Emma agreed, Nora's return to her ancestral roots would face no obstacles.
However, Ebenezer felt that convincing Emma wouldn't be so simple.
"Aaron, are you in such a hurry for Nora to reclaim her heritage because you think she needs a good family background to match yours?" Ebenezer suddenly asked.
"Of course not," Aaron replied. "No matter what Nora’s status is, I've resolved to marry her. I just don't want her to be mistreated. The honor she deserves has to be given to her."
His gaze was profound, his demeanor steady, making one unconsciously convinced.
Ebenezer nodded, "Remember, if you dare to mistreat her, even if you two get married, I can make you get a divorce at any time!"
The warning in his words was very strong.
Aaron's lips curled into a smile, "Uncle, rest assured, I will never betray her in my life!"
Ebenezer was satisfied, "All right, let's go down to eat."
Aaron agreed, "Okay."
Downstairs, Sandy was introducing Nora and Kenneth to each other.
Although Kenneth had seen Nora at the school gates before, his attention had been on Sandy and Zephyr, who was bothering her, so he didn't remember Nora.
Hearing Sandy introduce Nora as the renowned Master Healer Dr. Sun, he expressed his surprise.
"So, you are the famous Master Healer Dr. Sun? To have such accomplishments at a young age is impressive! My apologies for not recognizing you earlier," Kenneth remarked.
Nora offered a modest smile, "It's not much. Sandy's skills as a Traditional Medicine Practitioner are comparable to mine."
Kenneth glanced at Sandy, "Are you working in the same lab together?"
"Yes, that's why we met a few days ago," Sandy replied with a smile.
"Why didn't you tell me earlier?" Kenneth asked.
Internally, Sandy thought about how the first thing he did upon entering his room these past days was to be intimate with her, leaving no time for such talks.
"It's not too late to mention it now," Nora said with a laugh.
"That's true."
Kenneth nodded, and the three of them continued to make small talk.
Across the room, Suzy stared at Nora, also taken aback by her identity.
Nora had always been perceived as an average civilian doctor, but unexpectedly, her background revealed itself to be quite illustrious; she was in fact a master healer. It seemed as if she had an extraordinary twist of fate. The envy within Suzy's heart grew increasingly intense.
As she observed Nora's laughter-filled demeanor, Suzy snorted dismissively, "Nora, you certainly have a big heart. Aaron betrayed you, and it doesn't even seem to bother you at all?"
Upon hearing this, Nora glanced at her with an icy stare. "What would you do in my situation? Would you break up with a man who betrayed you?" she questioned.
Suzy's gaze flickered hesitantly. If the man were Aaron, of course, she wouldn't just end things! She would severely deal with the woman who seduced him. But naturally, she wouldn't admit this in front of Nora.
"Why ask me such a question? After a man has me, why would he look elsewhere?" Suzy retorted.
Nora studied her intently, asking meaningfully, "But what if his infidelity wasn't his intention but rather a result of someone else's manipulation? Would you forgive him then?"
Suzy's heart skipped a beat, and her eyes momentarily darted away. ‘Why would Nora ask this? Could she know something?’ she thought to herself, nervously.
At that moment, footsteps were heard descending the stairs. Aaron and Ebenezer appeared, one following the other.
"Let's eat," interjected Emma, who had been watching the exchange with detached interest.
It sounded like there was more to Aaron's story, possibly even involving her own daughter. The group on the sofa stood up, preparing to head to the dining room for dinner.
"Hold on," Ebenezer spoke up, his gaze landing on Suzy with a stern expression. "Suzy, before we dine, don't you think you owe Nora an apology?"
Suzy tensed up. "Dad, why should I apologize to Nora?"
"Isn't it true that you orchestrated Sunny deliberately seducing Aaron for the sake of those headlines?" he accused.
Ebenezer fixed his gaze on Suzy. "How could you do such a thing? Just because Aaron didn't want to marry you, and you couldn't have him, you sought to ruin him?"
Upon hearing this, a sinking feeling took hold of Suzy, but she still vehemently denied it. "I didn’t! Dad, who told you that?"
"It was me." Aaron spoke up at just the right moment, "Sunny already confessed that you set her up to do this."
Although Sunny's confession wasn't entirely voluntary, it still counted as coming clean. Suzy's face turned pale, and a flash of panic crossed her eyes.
‘Could Sunny have confessed to Aaron? How could that be possible? Sunny hadn't talked to her about it!’ all these thoughts raced through her mind.
It must be Aaron trying to trick her; she had to deny it to the end!
"I didn't! Sunny is slandering me! Dad, you must believe me!" Suzy insisted.
Ebenezer looked at her, his eyes filled with deep sorrow.
"Sunny is slandering you? All right, we'll set that aside for now. Will you be willing to admit that you directed her to plagiarize Nora's academic paper?" he probed.
Suzy choked on her words, suddenly speechless. She glanced at Aaron with a look of profound grievance. Was he so heartless, revealing all her secrets just for Nora?
Ebenezer added, "Suzy, Dad is very disappointed in you. My daughter might not say 'Women are as good as men,' but at the very least, shouldn't you be honest and upright? How could you resort to such a sneaky and deceptive act?"
The disappointment was etched across Ebenezer' face, and he added, "All right, you're no longer a child; tomorrow, I'll have your mom find a suitable match for you. It's high time you got married."
Marry someone?
Suzy's complexion shifted, "Dad, are you trying to kick me out of the house? I don't want to get married!"
If she were to marry, it would be to Aaron and no one else. She didn't want anyone else but him.
"You don't want to get married? Or could it be you're still pining for Aaron?" Ebenezer spoke coldly, "Suzy, I'm warning you, Aaron and Nora are truly in love. If you try to come between them again, don't blame me for turning my back on you without a second thought!"
