Chapter 743 Every Meeting Was Quite Special

Swallowing hard, he tried to ignore the physiological reaction stirred up by Jane, understanding that these two men meant trouble.

He unbuttoned his shirt to wrap Jane's petite figure tightly, addressing the two men, "What woman? Can't you see that we are busy kissing?"

The two men squinted, sizing up Jane in Zephyr's arms.

Jane stood with her back to them, revealing only a silhouette and neat short hair, with bare feet resting on Zephyr's shoes.

The two men exchanged a glance, quickly dispelling their doubts.

In their impression, Jane, with her big wavy curls, was definitely not this woman.

"Let's go check over there."

The two men hurried away.

The surrounding air quieted down.

Only Zephyr and Jane remained embraced.

After a while, making sure they had gone far, Zephyr said, "They've left; you can let go now."

Jane released her grip, took a step back, and adjusted her collar.

"Dr. Wright, thank you just now."

Zephyr's shirt was open, his belt half undone, hanging loosely around his hips, a stark contrast to his usual gentle doctor image, adding a touch of charm to his overall demeanor.

Jane's gaze quickly swept over Zephyr's strong chest and well-proportioned abs, then lowered her eyes slightly.

Zephyr seemed thin but in good shape.

Sensing Jane's scrutiny, Zephyr quickly turned to the side and started to button up his shirt and fasten his belt.

A suspicious blush flashed behind his ears.

The scene just now was too impactful, and he still hadn't fully recovered.

"Officer Jane, it seems like our meetings are always quite special," Zephyr said.

Jane's gaze fell on the base of Zephyr's ear, recalling his reaction earlier, she coughed lightly and teased, "Don't be embarrassed, it's normal for a man to react in such situations, it means you're healthy."

Just as Zephyr finished fastening his belt, his eyes showed even more embarrassment at her words.

'Jane is so candid!' Zephyr thought,

'How could she say such things with a straight face!'

Taking a deep breath, Zephyr reluctantly suppressed his discomfort and changed the subject.

"What task are you actually on?"

Getting to the point, Jane's expression turned more serious.

"Our police department is investigating a case of missing teenage girls. Lately, we've been alerted to multiple instances where girls around the age of twenty have been scouted purportedly for a talent show, only to vanish without a trace."

"After various investigations, we found that an illegal organization was planning a human trafficking business, so I disguised myself to gather information."

At her words, Zephyr scrutinized her. "You're pretending to be a troubled teenager?"

Jane was speechless.

'A troubled teenager.'

'What's he talking about?'

"I'm not a troubled teenager. I'm clearly a heartbroken girl," Jane said.

Zephyr glanced at Jane's exposed legs. "Does a heartbroken girl need to dress so revealingly?"

Jane adjusted her short hair and said, "After a heartbreak, can't one change their usual style and be a bit wild at a place like this?"

Jane's words made sense.

Thinking of his own heartbreak, Zephyr realized his behavior might indeed be different.

"Those two men just now were criminals?" Zephyr asked.

Jane replied, "They were thugs hired by the criminals."

She paused. "I saw the leader of the thugs just now. I had a hidden camera recording on me, but he quickly sensed something was off, so I had to injure him and retreat."

She spoke lightly, but Zephyr knew the scene must have been thrilling.

He couldn't help but respect her.

"You're investigating alone without a partner; that's too reckless," Zephyr said.

Jane sighed, "Another major case happened, so my team was reassigned, and we're short-staffed."

Zephyr glanced at her. "If you hadn't met me today, you would have been in trouble."

Jane nodded. "So I'm really grateful to you today."

Zephyr said, "There is no need to thank me; assisting the police in their work is a duty of a good citizen."

This way of assisting made him quite embarrassed.

He hoped there wouldn't be a next time.

"I'll take my leave."

Jane prepared to leave.

Zephyr frowned as he saw her bare feet. "Are you leaving like this? Where are your shoes?"

Jane looked down. "I lost them while running."

Zephyr paused. "Wait here for a moment."

Jane didn't know what he was up to, but as he left without a word, she went to the restroom to wash her face and remove the makeup.

Shortly after, Zephyr returned.

He held a navy blue work uniform and a pair of flat shoes in his hands.

"Go change into these clothes before you leave."

Jane was puzzled. "Where did these clothes and shoes come from?"

"I bought them from the waiter." Zephyr said, "Those people are probably still looking for you. It's easy to be discovered if you leave like this."

He seemed quite considerate.

Jane glanced at Zephyr, took the clothes and shoes, and didn't tell him she had brought a change of clothes.

"How much did it cost? I'll give it to you."

"No need, just a small amount," Zephyr said.

"I insist. I'm a law enforcement officer. I can't take advantage of good citizens," Jane insisted.

With that said, Zephyr didn't hold back either.

"Two hundred dollars."

Jane was taken aback, looking at the clothes and shoes in her hands. "You're really generous!"

For a set of work clothes and a pair of flat shoes, fifty-five dollars bucks would have been more than enough.

This Zephyr, in the end, made her a scapegoat!

"I thought the fabric was good, and the waiter said their work clothes are all brand-name." Zephyr looked innocent.

Jane was speechless, and the waiters were quite cunning!

Seeing Zephyr's refined appearance, the waiters took advantage of him!

However, Zephyr was kind-hearted; she naturally couldn't blame him.

"Here, give me your phone number; I'll add you later when I get back."

Zephyr looked at Jane. "If you find it expensive..."

"Not at all; I just checked, and the fabric is indeed good," Jane said against her will.

Zephyr didn't say anything more; he gave her a string of numbers.

Jane silently noted it down. "Then I'll leave first."

Zephyr said, "Change before you leave."

In appreciation of his kindness, she changed into the clothes before leaving.

Jane went to the restroom to change her clothes.

Zephyr watched her leave, unconsciously sighing in relief.

There seemed to be a lingering scent of perfume at the tip of his nose, and a soft touch still lingered on his hand.

Jane's snow-white skin flashed before his eyes.

His Adam's apple involuntarily bobbed, and Zephyr quickly halted his thoughts, leaving in a hurry.

he was afraid that if he didn't leave now, he would ne aroused again, making a fool of himself.

After Jane changed and came out, she looked around but didn't see Zephyr's figure.

And so he left.

Zephyr was indeed a good person.

Jane smiled and left quickly.
