Chapter 981 You Were Too Seductive

She wondered, 'Is Johnnie trying to impress me? Does he really want to be my boyfriend?'

Gabriella felt a little flutter but said, "That's pretty opportunistic. Let's go."

Johnnie carried her shopping bags out of the store.

"Where to next?"

"Fourth floor."

There were men's clothing on the fourth floor.

Johnnie glanced at her. "Buying men's clothes?"

Gabriella snorted, "I don't want you thinking I'm using you."

Johnnie nodded. "If anyone's using someone, it's me using you."

Gabriella rolled her eyes. "Johnnie, does Aaron know how slick you are?"

Johnnie shot back, "Am I slick?"

Gabriella raised an eyebrow. "You're not slick, you're evil! You act like a fool, but you're more cunning than anyone."

Did she know him that well?

Johnnie smirked, about to follow her when his phone rang.

He saw it was his dad, Randy Perez.

"Dad?"

"Johnnie, can you come back? Your mom, Vilma Hansen, had a heart attack and is on the way to the hospital."

Johnnie's face changed. "Got it, I'll be right there."

Ahead, Gabriella was about to get on the escalator. Seeing Johnnie not following, she stopped.

"Aaron bothering you again?"

She thought it was Aaron and looked annoyed.

"It wasn't Aaron. My mom's in the hospital. I need to go home. Do what you want."

Johnnie handed her the shopping bags, looking anxious.

Gabriella was stunned. "I'll go with you."

Johnnie paused and looked at her.

Gabriella felt awkward. "I'm not familiar with Houston. Are you okay with me going back alone?"

Johnnie knew it was an excuse but didn't have time to argue and walked quickly ahead.

Gabriella hurried to catch up.

They left the mall and got into the car. Johnnie sped onto the highway.

Seeing his serious expression and fast driving, Gabriella said, "Don't rush, slow down a bit. You need to keep me safe too."

Johnnie slowed down a bit and called Randy for an update.

Gabriella listened while checking the road ahead.

After the call, she asked, "Is your mom at the hospital now?"

"Yeah, she's in the ER."

"Don't worry, she'll be fine."

Johnnie nodded. Having her there helped him calm down.

"Johnnie, where's your home?" Gabriella asked, looking at the highway signs.

"Silver City," Johnnie replied.

"Are you an only child?"

"No, I have an older sister who's married."

"Oh."

Gabriella nodded. "What are your parents like?"

Johnnie glanced at her. "Just ordinary people, nothing special."

His words made her think.

Gabriella squinted. "What do you mean?"

"Just stating the facts."

Johnnie paused. "Aren't you going to marry Miguel? Why haven't you gone back?"

She knew Johnnie's earlier words had another meaning.

Gabriella said, "When did I say I was marrying Miguel? Oh, you eavesdropped on my conversation with Rafael, didn't you?"

Johnnie stayed silent.

Gabriella sneered. "So you know I was forced. Rafael threatened my parents, so I had to go along with him."

Johnnie paused. "I didn't hear that part."

Gabriella asked, "Then what did you hear? Just that I came for revenge?"

"Isn't that right?" Johnnie shot back.

Gabriella was frustrated. "Yes, I came for revenge, but things change, don't they?"

Johnnie's eyes flickered. "You mean, you thought about giving up?"

"Yes, if you were a bit nicer to me, I would have given up!" Gabriella said irritably.

Johnnie squinted at her, unsure if she was being honest.

"Why aren't you saying anything?" Gabriella looked annoyed.

"I don't know what to say," Johnnie replied.

"Don't you believe me?"

Johnnie glanced at her again. "You're too seductive."

Gabriella was stunned, then laughed angrily. "Johnnie, is that a compliment or an insult?"

Johnnie smiled slightly but said nothing.

"You're driving me crazy." Gabriella rolled her eyes and looked out the window, ignoring him.

Her words eased Johnnie's worried mood a bit.

Silver City was a neighboring city to Houston.

The highway took a little over an hour.

After getting off the highway, they drove another forty minutes before arriving at Silver City Hospital.

Learning that Vilma was still in surgery, they headed towards the operating room.

From a distance, they saw Randy sitting on a bench.

Johnnie strode forward. "Dad."

Randy looked up and quickly stood. "Johnnie, you're back."

"Yes, is Mom still in the operating room?" Johnnie asked.

"Yes." Randy glanced at Gabriella. "And this is?"

Johnnie turned slightly. "This is Gabriella."

"Hello, Randy." Gabriella smiled and greeted him.

"Hello." Randy looked Gabriella up and down, curious about her relationship with Johnnie.

Just then, a female voice called out.

"Randy, I've arranged a room for Vilma."

"Oh, good."

Randy's smile widened. "Susan, you're just in time. Johnnie is back!"

Johnnie turned and smiled. "Susan."

"Johnnie, you're back!"

Susan Hicks's eyes lit up with surprise.

"Yes." Johnnie nodded.

"Johnnie, Susan is a nurse here. She helped me with all the procedures," Randy praised. "You should thank her properly."

Johnnie nodded. "Susan, thank you."

"Oh, no need to be so polite. When I was a kid, I often ate at your place. It's only natural to help out now."

Susan was short, gentle, and had a cute appearance.

Gabriella, watching their friendly interaction, squinted her eyes. She took Johnnie's arm, smiling sweetly. "Johnnie, aren't you going to introduce us?"

Johnnie glanced at Gabriella's hand on his arm but didn't pull away.

"Let me introduce you. Susan Hicks, my old neighbor. Susan, this is..."
