Chapter 241 How Much Longer?
Aaron saw Nora laughing and frowned in displeasure. Then, drawing her to his side, he said to Frederick, "You can take these two, home. Noe, let's go."
His woman should smile only for him. What was she doing smiling at someone else?
"Yes sir." Noe nodded in agreement and, with a brief nod to Quinn, followed Aaron and Nora.
Quinn drew her coat closer and looked at Baldwin, who was now bleary-eyed and about to doze off. Surprisingly, he had quite a fiery spirit.
"Quinn, let's go," Frederick said, supporting Baldwin.
Quinn nodded and, seeing Frederick stride forward, raised an eyebrow, "Slow down a bit. It's hard on him."
Frederick paused, then complied, slowing his pace.
Quinn, observing Baldwin's staggered steps, added, "Make sure to support him properly. You're practically dragging him along."
Frederick glanced at the man whose eyes were now closed and felt a bit speechless. He finally managed to get Baldwin into the car parked outside.
"Quinn, who should I drop off first?" Frederick asked.
Quinn, sitting in the passenger seat, glanced at the man stretched out asleep in the backseat through the rearview mirror and, after a moment's thought, replied, "Head to my place."
He had gotten hurt because of her. She couldn't just let him go home with a clear conscience.
Meanwhile, Aaron's car sped along. "What happened?" Aaron asked. "How does a dinner turn into a fight?"
Nora felt a bit guilty, "Just drank too much and wanted to get some fresh air, then ran into a few thugs."
Aaron gave her a sidelong glance, "Drank too much, huh?"
Nora paused, then burst into laughter despite herself. "I'm not drunk," she said.
Aaron scoffed lightly, "Still laughing? Want to drink some more when we get back?"
Nora quickly stifled her laughter and shook her head fervently, "No need, I'm not an alcoholic."
Aaron's voice was cool, "It seems like a few more days with Quinn, and you'll be fast on your way there."
Nora chuckled awkwardly, noticing the displeased look on his face, and quickly changed the subject. "Thomas, I think Quinn and Baldwin could be a thing," she said.
Aaron glanced at her with skepticism, "Is that so?" His tone clearly shows disbelief.
Nora looked at him, "Don't you think they're a good match?"
Aaron responded indifferently, "That's someone else's business. I'm not worried about it." He only cared about anything related to Nora.
Nora pondered for a moment, "I think if we act as the matchmaker a bit more, those two will definitely have a chance.”
Aaron leaned over, tenderly turned her face toward him, and said with a gentle tone, "Nora, don't always worry about other people. Think more about me." As he spoke, he kissed her tenderly.
Nora's eyelashes fluttered, her eyes instinctively darting around. She seemed to be getting more accustomed to his spontaneous displays of affection, no matter the setting.
Look, even Noe up front had conscientiously put up the divider ahead of time.
Nora closed her eyes, naturally wrapping her arms around his strong waist, contentedly enjoying his kiss. She actually liked it when he kissed her.
Aaron felt the heated passion within him, while kissing her, he failed to extinguish the heat that was flaring up even more with each moment. He let go of her and asked in a hoarse voice, "How much longer?"
Nora's eyes were glimmering with emotion, her breathing slightly erratic, and she didn't quite understand what Aaron was referring to. "What do you mean 'how much longer'?"
Aaron cleared his throat, his fingers tracing her soft lips, "When is your period over?"
Nora was speechless. Was he honestly asking about that! Was he that frustrated? Nora managed to laugh through her exasperation, pushed him away, and shifted toward the car window. "Move over there a bit and go back to your own place later."
Better to avoid the lustful tension of being together.
Aaron exhaled heavily and pulled her back into his embrace. "Don't you dare send me away."
Nora pushed him, "Aren't you just asking for trouble?"
"I'll deal with it." Aaron hugged Nora, calming his mind, and thought about what had happened at noon.
"Frederick mentioned that a couple of jerks tried to mess with you at lunch, but you turned the tables on them?"
Hearing this, Nora's expression became more serious. "Mm-hmm."
"And one of them is the son of your father's housekeeper?" Aaron inquired.
Nora was startled and looked up at him, "How do you know?"
"I had Noe check them out." Aaron toyed with Nora's hand, his gaze cold and steely, "If they dare touch my woman, I need to know what they're made of!"
Nora felt a warmth in her heart, finding the words "my woman" increasingly pleasant to hear. "Did you find out anything substantial about them?"
Aaron explained, "Noe only did a background check. Found out that Frank, who invited you out, is the son of your father's housekeeper and works as a sales manager at your father's company. Also, checked out that guy Raymond a bit. Why? Do you plan to teach them another lesson? If so, I can have Noe look deeper."
Because Nora had successfully fought back, Aaron had let Noe conduct only a superficial investigation. If Nora still wanted to teach them a lesson, he would have Noe continue the investigation.
"I'm not aiming to teach them another lesson, but have Noe keep digging into Frank. It could be useful," Nora said. Having Noe on the job saved her the trouble of enlisting Alex's help.
Hearing her speak, Aaron's dark eyes narrowed slightly. "Useful how? Can't you tell me?" he inquired.
Nora paused briefly, "It's not that I can't say. On my trip back home, there was something I didn't get to finish."
"What was that?" he pressed her further.
"My mom went to jail for vehicular manslaughter, but she was actually taking the fall for my dad." Nora recounted the details of the event to him.
Aaron listened intently, deep in thought.
He remembered his mother saying she disapproved of Nora marrying him, partly because of Nora's common background and partly because one of his mother's distant cousins was the person Nora's mom had hit with her car which explained his mother's disdain for Nora.
‘Was there more to the case?’
"So, you mean to catch Frank in the act of doing something wrong and then use it to negotiate with his father, and have him testify against your dad to clear your mother's name?" Aaron summarized.
Nora nodded and let out a soft sigh. "Thomas, I'm actually torn. After all, he is not only my biological father but also my grandmother's son. Now that the person who poisoned my mom has been brought to justice, should I seek to overturn the case and send my dad to prison?"
What troubled her most was the potential heartbreak it could cause her grandmother.
Aaron wrapped his arms around her soft body and gently stroked her hair beside her ear. He understood her and knew she had a kind heart.
"Nora, you're mainly worried that sending your dad to jail will make your grandmother sad, right? But I don't think she'll necessarily be heartbroken," he reassured her.
Nora looked up at him with bewildered eyes, waiting for him to continue.
Aaron continued, "Consider how your father treated your grandmother in the past. He kept her in a nursing home and neglected her. I bet she's already disheartened. Besides, your grandmother seems like a wise person. No matter what you do, I'm sure she'll support you."
