Chapter 1032 Not Quite What I Imagined

"Alright, I was wrong. You're obviously a strong and handsome guy."

Johnnie smiled. "You're not being sincere."

Gabriella shot back, "Nothing I say is right. Don't take advantage of this."

Johnnie squinted. "Getting impatient? Just say so. I won't force you to stay."

Gabriella saw his serious face and laughed. She pinched his chin and kissed him. "You think I won't do anything to you, huh?"

Johnnie felt her soft lips and swallowed hard. "No, I want you to stay because you want to, not because you're forced."

Gabriella looked at his handsome face, curious. "Johnnie, why are you different from what I imagined?"

"How am I different?" Johnnie asked.

"Do you really love me?" Gabriella asked.

Johnnie was taken aback. "Why do you ask?"

"Just answer me," Gabriella insisted.

Johnnie replied, "If I didn't love you, why would I be with you?"

Gabriella smiled. "So you do love me. How much?"

Johnnie frowned. "Why are you asking this?"

"Just curious!" Gabriella said. "Isn't that how it goes on TV? If you love me deeply and find out you'll be disabled after an accident, shouldn't you be in pain and reluctant, but outwardly show hatred and disgust, then curse me out, and finally force me to leave and find my own happiness?"

Johnnie was speechless, wanting to roll his eyes. "TV dramas are harmful. Watch less of those brainless shows."

"What brainless shows? This is a way to show a man's deep love for a woman, okay?"

Gabriella laughed. "A man who would rather suffer himself than let his loved one suffer with him, don't you think that's stylish?"

Johnnie gave a cold smile. "So if I were that stylish, you'd just leave?"

Gabriella said, "Of course not! I'd cry and scream, insisting on staying to take care of you."

Johnnie said, "So why should I be so hypocritical? Knowing you wouldn't leave even if I beat you, why should I put on a tragic show? Who am I trying to impress?"

Gabriella was speechless, thinking, 'Johnnie is indeed a rational man.'

"Can you impress me?"

Johnnie said, "No! I don't want you crying all day and ruining your health."

'So he still cares about me,' Gabriella thought, smiling. "Alright, you're the patient, you have a point."

Johnnie curled his lips. "Gabriella, do you really not mind that I'm disabled?"

"What do you think?"

"I want to hear you say it."

Gabriella said, "If I minded, when your dad said we weren't compatible, I would have pretended to cry and then left, right?"

Johnnie was satisfied, curling his lips without saying a word.

Gabriella thought of Susan and asked, "By the way, where's Susan? Why isn't she here?"

"She went back to her country," Johnnie said.

Gabriella had guessed this outcome. Hearing Johnnie say it, she was still a bit excited. Susan going back meant she had given up.

Gabriella teased, "So soon? Didn't she cry and scream to stay and take care of you?"

Johnnie, half-joking, said, "She did. She wanted to stay, but I told her I didn't want to burden her and let her go."

Gabriella gave him a sidelong glance. "That's exactly what I said. Susan cried and screamed to stay, and you, suppressing your reluctance and pain, drove her away. So touching."

Johnnie laughed. "Yeah, you're right. Look how hypocritical I am!"

Gabriella lightly slapped his arm. "Really?"

Johnnie held her hand. "Jealous?"

Gabriella pouted and stayed silent.

Johnnie asked, "Do you think I'm that hypocritical?"

Gabriella knew he wasn't. She was just curious about how Susan left. "So how did Susan leave?"

"Reasonably."

"You convinced her?"

Johnnie said, "Not entirely. She probably didn't want to stay. She might have just loved my external conditions, and now that I'm in this situation, she wouldn't want to marry me."

His words matched what Nora had said. Gabriella smiled. "Nora was right."

Johnnie raised an eyebrow. "What did Mrs. Gordon say?"

"She told me not to worry, that soon no one would separate us."

Johnnie smirked. "Mrs. Gordon is wise."

Gabriella's eyes twinkled as she teased, "I'm the only one who's genuine. No matter what you become, I love you and won't leave you."

Johnnie laughed. "Yes, you're as genuine as I am."

"So if I get old and ugly, you won't mind?"

Johnnie said, "A disabled person and an ugly person, a perfect match!"

Gabriella burst into laughter. "You're the ugly one!"

"Yes, I'm both disabled and ugly. Luckily, you're awesome and beautiful, so I win perfectly."

Gabriella was speechless.

Outside the door, Aaron and Nora listened to their conversation and smiled at each other.

There's a saying that blessings and misfortunes are intertwined. Sometimes blessings and misfortunes are cause and effect.

When it seemed the worst, surprises may be hidden in those disasters. So, it was best to take things in stride and go with the flow.

Johnnie and Gabriella were discharged from the hospital after eight days. Nora and Aaron were going back to their country.

For convenience in treatment, Gabriella decided to accompany Johnnie back to Chrisland.

However, they were stopped before they left. Mateo, disguised in the middle of the night, secretly came to Hugo's house to find Aaron and Nora.

Seeing him dressed in black, Aaron directly asked, "Did you find evidence that Rafael ordered someone to harm Johnnie and the others?"

Mateo said, "Don't be so hasty. Can I have a drink of water first?"

"Wait a moment." Nora was about to get water, but Aaron told her to sit down and went to get Mateo a glass of water.

After Mateo finished drinking, Aaron asked again, "Can you talk now?"

Mateo handed the glass to Nora and said, "I did find one of the assassins."

Aaron raised an eyebrow. "Did he confess?"

Mateo said, "He's just a mercenary, only doing the job for money. He doesn't know who hired him."
