Chapter 973 Be My Boyfriend Again

Gabriella stared at the ceiling, giving a self-mocking smile.

"What's wrong with me? Is this heartbreak? Am I really feeling this way because of Johnnie? Where's my old, high-spirited self?"

She felt drained, uninterested in anything. Everything seemed dull.

Closing her eyes, she let herself sink deeper. She spent another night in bed. The next day, she forced herself up, touched her empty stomach, freshened up, and decided to get her phone fixed.

Feeling dizzy, she steadied herself against the wall. She knew Aaron and Nora had already left. They probably knew about her breakup with Johnnie but didn't bother to check on her. Heartless, all of them. She shouldn't feel guilty. If the Gordon Group faced a disaster, she'd be happy.

With a cold smile, she left and took a cab to a phone repair shop. The technician told her to come back around two or three in the afternoon.

Gabriella waited in a coffee shop until it was time. When she returned, the technician was finishing up and pulled out a chip.

"Miss, we found a bug in your phone. It was being tapped."

Stunned, she took the chip, feeling a sinking sensation. Who could've done this? Rafael? But that didn't seem likely. Her phone had never left her side. The only one who could've done it was someone close to her—Johnnie.

Her chest tightened. Was it Johnnie? Why would he bug her phone? Had they figured out she was working with Rafael? Was that why Johnnie broke up with her right after Mateo's trip? His mission was complete; he didn't need to pretend anymore.

She felt like a fool. She thought she was playing them, but they had played her. They saw through everything and set a trap, watching her fall into it like a clown.

Her face burned with shame. 'I'm too clever for my own good,' she thought.

"It's done," the technician said, handing her the phone.

Gabriella snapped back to reality, paid, and looked at her newly repaired phone. She took a deep breath and gave a cold smile.

If they wanted to play games, she'd play along till the end.

Gabriella dialed Johnnie's number. He hung up immediately. Ruthless. He wouldn't even take her call after the breakup. At least he hadn't blocked her—should she be grateful for that?

With a cold smile, she snapped a picture of the chip and sent it to him. She waited. Within seconds, Johnnie called back.

She answered with a mocking smile. "Hello?"

Johnnie's familiar voice came through. "What's up?"

"Oh, Mr. Perez must be very busy. Am I disturbing you?" she said sarcastically.

"What's up?" he repeated, calm and cold.

Gabriella smoothed her hair. "I have something I can't figure out. Was the bug in my phone installed by Mr. Gordon?"

After a pause, Johnnie replied, "No, I installed it myself."

Gabriella was stunned. "You did?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

For a moment, she thought maybe it was possessiveness, afraid she was seeing other men. But reality hit hard.

"Because you were suspicious."

"How was I suspicious?"

"Gabriella, stop pretending. You approached me to sabotage Mr. Gordon and Mrs. Gordon's relationship and to steal confidential files, didn't you?"

Her secret joy sank. Johnnie wasn't possessive; he was just clear-headed. Embarrassment flashed in her eyes.

"When did you install the bug?"

"The first day Mateo arrived."

"How did you find out I was suspicious?"

"Does it still matter now?" he asked.

Gabriella gave a cold smile. "Tired of talking to me? Johnnie, you better be nice to me! I guess the confidential file you let me see was fake too. Do you think I won't tell Rafael?"

After a pause, Johnnie asked, "What do you want?"

"Depends on your attitude," she replied.

Silence.

"Johnnie, you really surprised me. Knowing I had a motive, you still played along with me. Your acting skills are top-notch!"

More silence.

Her anger boiled over. "Hey, are you still alive? If you're alive, speak up. If not, I'll assume you're dead!"

"What do you want me to say?" he finally asked.

Gabriella opened her mouth but was momentarily speechless. What did she want him to say? She didn't know. She just knew she wasn't willing to end things like this. She wanted to curse him, hit him, torment him. She wanted revenge.

Taking a deep breath, she said, "Johnnie, I want you to be my boyfriend gaina."
