Chapter 1099 A Person Can Apologize for Their Mistakes But Not Humble Themselves
Samantha felt kinda stuck 'cause Alex had a point, and she couldn't really argue back.
After a bit, Samantha shot back: [Alex, I get it, you guys mean well, but my thing with Wesley is just between us. Can you let me handle it?]
[You think if you step in, he'll freak out and come crawling back to say sorry? And then what, should I take him back or not?]
[I still like him. If he says sorry, I'll forgive him, and we'll be back together. Would that make you happy?]
The group chat went dead silent for a moment.
Then Billy chimed in: [Looks like you haven't learned much, but you've got some twisted logic down.]
Samantha knew the guys in her family were backing off. She grinned and typed: [Alright, stop blocking him. Let me deal with it, okay? You all say I'm a Gordon. You don't want me leaning on you forever, right?]
Soon, Nora sent: [Samantha's right. You've scared Wesley enough. Let her handle her own stuff.]
Aaron agreed: [Alright, that's it. Everyone listen to Nora.]
Then Aaron wrapped it up: [Samantha, remember this: for love, someone can say sorry for their mistakes but shouldn't grovel. Don't bend over backwards.]
[Look at your mom. We've been hitched for over ten years. Has she ever bent over backwards for me? A Gordon girl should always be on top!]
Two seconds later, Nora sent: [Why do I sense some whining? Haven't I ever bent over backwards for you?]
Aaron: [Babe, let's talk in private.]
Nora: [Why can't you say it in front of the kids?]
Aaron didn't reply, and they probably went off to chat privately.
Samantha couldn't help but laugh at their banter. She'd seen tons of posts about relationships.
Lots of middle-aged couples had lost their spark. They'd cheat, have affairs, and talk about splitting up. Middle-aged marriages were a mess.
But in her family, Nora and Aaron could be grandparents soon, yet they were still all lovey-dovey. She felt a bit jealous. She wondered if, in ten years, she and her partner would still be as tight as Nora and Aaron.
Samantha thought of Wesley. Since Elijah called her, he probably knew about the Gordon family blacklisting him.
Samantha figured she needed to call Wesley, first to talk about the blacklist, and second to see where they stood.
With that in mind, Samantha dialed Wesley's number. But his phone was still off. She then called Elijah.
At that moment, Elijah was chilling on the couch, waiting for news from Samantha. She quickly answered, "Samantha, how'd it go? Did you talk to your family?"
Samantha replied, "Yeah, I talked to them. They won't blacklist Wesley anymore."
Hearing this, Elijah let out a big sigh of relief. "That's good."
Samantha asked, "Is Wesley there? I wanna talk to him."
Elijah's heart, which had just relaxed, tightened up again. She didn't want Wesley to lose his career, but she also didn't want Samantha and him to stay together.
Elijah took a deep breath and said, "Samantha, I told you to back off from Wesley for a reason."
"As his assistant, I've seen him grind his way to the top. It wasn't a walk in the park. So, I don't want you two together."
"Because if you guys start dating, Wesley's gonna lose a ton of fans, and that's bad news for him. Samantha, if you really care about him, let him focus on his career."
Samantha frowned. "Is that what Wesley thinks too? Does he not want our relationship to mess with his career?"
Elijah's eyes darted. "Yeah, that's what he thinks too. Guys always put their careers first."
Samantha shot back, "Really? Then why did he confess to me in the first place?"
Elijah stumbled for a second. "That's 'cause Wesley's into music. Musicians are all about their feelings. But once the emotions fade, they get practical. Between love and career, career wins."
Samantha wasn't buying it. "Elijah, that's just your take. I wanna hear it from Wesley. Can you let him talk? Don't worry, if he really wants to focus on his career, I won't hold him back."
Seeing Samantha wasn't budging, Elijah's heart sank. Knowing Wesley's feelings, he wouldn't put his career first.
She said, "Samantha, even if he wants to be with you, it won't last. Wesley's proud and sensitive. Your worlds are too different. Even if you make it work now, conflicts will pop up. It's better not to start, so no one gets hurt."
Samantha wasn't having it. "Elijah, we'll deal with future problems when they come. Right now, I just wanna talk to Wesley."
Elijah got frustrated, raising her voice. "Samantha, why are you so stubborn? I said you two aren't a good match. Stop clinging to him and don't mess up his career!"
Samantha felt something was off. "Elijah, why are you so worked up? If Wesley and I are together, it won't hurt his career. Fans are important, but so are connections. I'm a Gordon. As long as we're together, his career won't tank. Do you believe that?"
Of course, Elijah believed it. If Wesley and Samantha were together, he'd blow up even more. But she wasn't about to admit that.
She felt a pang of frustration, thinking, "Why is life so unfair? Why can the Gordon family control everything? Why can Samantha get what she wants with their help, while I have to struggle for happiness and still can't get it?"
Just then, Wesley, hearing the commotion, walked in. "Elijah, who are you talking to?"
On the other end, Samantha heard Wesley's voice and asked, "Elijah, is that Wesley? Let him take the call."
Since Samantha had heard him, if Elijah didn't let Wesley talk, she'd get suspicious. Reluctantly, Elijah said, "It's Samantha."
Wesley paused, a flicker of emotion crossing his usually cool face. He took the phone, cleared his throat, and said, "Hello?"
Samantha said, "Wesley, I wanna apologize for my family. They thought I was hurt, so they did some things that weren't cool."
