Chapter 1001 I Wanted to Marry You
James looked at Millie's face and suddenly blurted, "Millie just had a random nosebleed. Did Mia use a witch doctor?"
Everyone was shocked.
Hugo was the first to react. "James, stop causing trouble! You just want an excuse to take Millie from Hchilia. Remember, Millie is the only Stov family bloodline. Her family would never harm her."
James sneered. "Not harm her? Letting her grow up with a broken personality, mentally controlled, and timid—is that not harm?"
Hugo, flustered, shot back, "Stop fearmongering. I'm Millie's uncle. I won't let anyone harm her."
James retorted, "Hugo, if you care about Millie, let me take her instead of keeping her here."
Hugo glared. "Am I keeping her here? Millie doesn't want to go with you."
James quickly responded, "So, if Millie wants to go with us, you won't stop her?"
Hugo's eyes flickered. "You're not qualified to discuss this with me."
James countered, "If I'm not qualified, neither are you to force her to stay."
"Alright, stop arguing. Don't scare Millie," Aaron interrupted.
Aaron looked at Billy. "Billy, take Millie and Samantha upstairs to play."
Billy nodded. "Millie, let's go."
Millie pouted. "James, Hugo, don't argue."
James softened. "We're not arguing, just discussing."
"Yes, Millie, adults sometimes have different opinions. It's not arguing, so don't worry," Hugo added.
Millie felt relieved.
Billy said, "Let's go, Millie. Tell me about your school."
Millie’s attention shifted. She took Billy's hand. "Billy, you still haven't told me how to make Randall see ghosts in broad daylight."
"You'll find out tomorrow," Billy said, leading Millie and Samantha upstairs.
Watching them leave, Nora turned to Hugo. "Mr. Rochet, let's not discuss taking Millie away now. We can't feel at ease leaving her here."
Hugo felt awkward. "Dr. Smith, I said I would talk to Randall's parents and Mia."
Aaron chimed in, "We've been here a while and haven't met Millie's grandparents, Diego and Mia. How about we meet them tomorrow?"
Hugo nodded. "Sure, I'll have them come over."
"No need. We'll visit Diego, Mia, and that witch doctor," Nora said calmly.
She wanted to meet the witch doctor, Signe Christensen, to see how Signe was fooling people.
"Alright," Hugo agreed.
The atmosphere grew tense, especially between Hugo and James.
Out of respect for Aaron and Nora, neither acted out.
As night fell, Hugo and Aisha settled Nora and the others and then returned to their room.
Jasmine also went back to her room.
After her shower, Jasmine stepped out of the bathroom and was startled to see James in her room.
"James, what are you doing here?"
She was wrapped in a white towel, barely covering her hips, exposing a lot of fair skin and her long legs. Her half-dry hair draped over her shoulders, and her face was still pink from the steam.
James, full of youthful energy, felt his gaze heat up. He stepped closer, pinning Jasmine against the wall. "Jasmine, do you like me?"
James had always seemed proper to Jasmine. Now, he was suddenly in her room, asking if she liked him. She felt a bit scared. "James, let go of me first."
James didn't budge. "Jasmine, I'm leaving here. Do you want to come with me?"
Jasmine paused her struggle. "You're leaving?"
"Yes, I've spent too much time here. I don't want to waste any more. Do you want to come with me?"
Should she go with him? Jasmine's eyes flickered. After a moment, she said, "I can't go with you."
James frowned. "Why? Do you want to stay here and continue being Hugo's mistress?"
"I am not!" Jasmine quickly denied.
"If not, why won't you come with me?" James asked.
Jasmine met his intense gaze. "Why should I go with you? Do you like me?"
James stared at her without speaking. A hint of mockery flashed in Jasmine's eyes.
"See, you don't like me at all. You just see me as Emmeline's substitute. You want me to go with you because Millie likes me. If Millie didn't like me, you wouldn't even look at me, right?"
Her questions revealed her emotional turmoil. James was silent for a moment, then said, "You're right. If you didn't look like Emmeline, if Millie didn't like you, I wouldn't even glance at you."
The truth was hard to hear. Jasmine's heart sank, feeling bitter. She turned her head away. "So I know my place. I won't go with you."
James lifted her chin, making her face him. "Are you upset?"
James' voice softened. Jasmine didn't want to cry, but his gentle tone made her eyes instantly redden. Tears glistened at the corners of her eyes. James' rough thumb gently wiped them away.
"Sorry, I didn't want to lie to you. I just wanted an open and honest conversation. Only by talking it out can we be together in the future without doubts or suspicions."
Jasmine caught the key information in his words. "What did you say?"
She thought, 'James said we would be together in the future. Was James planning to be with me?'
"Jasmine, I want to marry you."
'Marry! James said he wanted to marry me! 'Jasmine's breath hitched as she looked into James' eyes, her gaze flickering.
Every woman hoped for a good future. She was no exception. Previously, Jasmine had hopes for Hugo, dreaming of replacing Aisha and becoming Hugo's wife. But now, Hugo had a doctor treating his infertility, and his relationship with Aisha was growing stronger. Jasmine knew she could never replace Aisha and become the legitimate partner. If it weren't for Hugo using her family to threaten her, Jasmine would have left him long ago to start a new life.
And now, James suddenly said he wanted to marry her.She couldn't remain indifferent.
