Chapter 1080 Provocation
"Seriously? I ain't into all that talk; I wanna see some action." Ryan grinned but stayed chill.
Like the rest of the Gordon clan, Ryan was sizing up Wesley and Alfred. Maybe it was just his bias, but he wasn't too keen on Wesley and leaned more towards Alfred. Since he couldn't marry Samantha himself, he wanted her to end up with a top-tier dude.
"Alright, Ryan, time for you to bounce. Don't mess with our meal." Samantha noticed Ryan's disdain for Wesley and nudged him to leave, worried he'd say something to tick Wesley off.
Ryan got the hint and nodded, a sly grin spreading across his face. "Cool, I'll go check on Alfred. Wonder how his date's going. With his looks and height, he's bound to catch some eyes."
"And that chick earlier? Tall and full of energy. They seem like a good match," Ryan said, making sure Samantha heard, then turned and left.
Samantha was at that age where dating was on her mind, and Ryan couldn't wrap his head around why she was into Wesley. But he had a gut feeling she had a thing for Alfred. Otherwise, she wouldn't have looked so bummed seeing Alfred with another girl. So, he decided to stir the pot a bit.
As the door shut, Samantha's smile faded. She couldn't help but picture Alfred's ripped body.
With a build like that, Alfred was definitely a catch. She wondered if he was into girls with a figure like Lykke's.
Samantha felt a pang of discomfort. She pouted and muttered, "A match? That girl is so skinny, she ain't got any curves."
"Samantha, what are you mumbling about?" Wesley looked at her, his eyes narrowing.
Samantha snapped back. "Nothing, let's just eat."
Wesley kept his eyes on her. "Samantha, you seem pretty bothered by Alfred dating other girls, huh?"
"No." Samantha's eyes flickered with emotion. "I just think he's changed. I always thought he was a stand-up guy, but I guess I was wrong. He's just like most guys, chasing after any girl he sees."
Samantha thought her unease was because she had misjudged Alfred. The honest and dependable image she had of him was crumbling.
"Oh, did he have a thing for someone before?" Wesley asked, trying to sound casual.
"I dunno. He just mentioned he liked someone." Samantha got riled up again. "If he's got someone he likes, why's he flirting with other girls? Isn't that just being a jerk?"
Wesley looked at her. "Maybe the girl he likes doesn't feel the same, so he's looking elsewhere. You can't expect him to pine for one girl forever and never move on. Guys aren't that loyal."
He was trying to show Samantha that Alfred was just a regular dude, not some perfect guy.
"Yeah, but I'm really curious, who is this girl Alfred likes?" Samantha couldn't figure it out. "I bet it's someone close to him. Maybe Mateo knows? I gotta ask him."
Without a second thought, Samantha pulled out her phone to call Mateo.
Wesley's face turned sour again. "Samantha, we're on a date here. Don't you think you're talking about Alfred a bit too much?"
Samantha paused, feeling a bit awkward when she saw Wesley's annoyed look. She quickly put her phone down. "Sorry, Wesley. Let's drop it. Have you ordered the food?"
Wesley, feeling a bit stifled, randomly picked a couple of dishes. "Yeah, you can add a few more."
Samantha ordered two more dishes. Just then, her phone buzzed with a new message.
It was from Ryan. She opened it to find a photo.
In the pic, Alfred and Lykke were all smiles, with Lykke taking a bowl of soup from Alfred. Under the lights, it looked like a perfect date scene.
Samantha's grip on her phone tightened, and her lips pressed together unconsciously.
Ryan sent another message: [They seem to be hitting it off. Looks like a sweet date. Should we congratulate Alfred?]
Samantha smirked and replied: [I warned that girl that Alfred already likes someone, yet she's still cozying up to him. Must be his looks. Doesn't she worry about getting dumped soon?]
Ryan shot back: [Men are into looks, and so are women. If I were a chick, I'd go for a tall, strong guy like Alfred too. Unlike your boyfriend, who looks like he might need your protection.]
Samantha rolled her eyes. She thought Ryan was being dramatic. Wesley might be a bit thin, but he wasn't that weak.
Samantha: [Cut it out, don't trash-talk my boyfriend. He's awesome, and I like his type.]
Ryan: [One day I'll take you to an eye doctor. I think you might be nearsighted.]
Samantha laughed and sent a playful emoji.
Ryan sent another message: [Samantha, seriously, what do you see in him?]
Samantha frowned and replied: [I just like him, no need for a bunch of reasons.]
She couldn't put it into words, but she just really liked Wesley.
Samantha glanced at Wesley, who was looking at her with an unhappy expression. She quickly put her phone aside. "Sorry, it was Ryan messaging me."
Wesley didn't say anything, but his frustration was growing. He thought, 'Besides Ryan and Alfred, how many other guys are close to Samantha? This is getting old.'
Near the restroom, Ryan patted Alfred's shoulder and showed him the messages he had exchanged with Samantha. "Good luck, Alfred. I'm rooting for you."
Alfred glanced at the messages and smiled. "Thanks, man."
"Don't thank me just yet," Ryan said, "I know Samantha's stubborn. Once she likes someone, she sticks with it, unless you make her completely lose faith in Wesley."
Alfred pondered for a moment, his charming blue eyes showing determination. "No rush, I'll wait until she's totally done with Wesley."
In a corner, overhearing their conversation, Elijah instinctively touched her belly and thought, 'Make Samantha completely lose faith in Wesley. If she knew he had slept with me and I was pregnant, would she be completely done with him?'
