Chapter 769 Learned to Endure
Jeffery frowned. "I no longer yearned for love, I'm already old now. If we divorce, who else would want me? Unlike that shameless Caden, as long as there's money, he has plenty of young women throwing themselves at him."
"So I won't divorce him. That would just fulfill his wish to be with other women. Besides, if I divorce Caden, it will affect Aaron's career. For Aaron's sake, I will endure with Caden to the end."
In spite of Jeffery's words, Nora didn't think that Jeffery's decision not to divorce Caden was probably not solely for these two reasons.
Nora glanced at Jeffery, her eyes flickering.
In reality, Jeffery still loved Caden.
The reason Jeffery argued with Caden was simply to get his attention.
Unfortunately, the method backfired.
"Mom, since you don't want to divorce Dad, why not cater to his interests," Nora said.
Upon hearing this, Jeffery looked at her. "Cater to his interests?"
"Yes, Dad loves music; why not learn to sing," Nora suggested.
Jeffery widened her eyes. "You want me to learn to sing? Are you crazy? I am, after all, the Gordon family's hostess. I can't become a singer!"
Nora remained calm. "Do you want to spend the rest of your life constantly arguing with Dad, pushing him to the brink until he can't take it anymore, leading to divorce?"
Jeffery choked up, unable to speak for a moment.
Nora felt it necessary to use Aaron as an excuse.
"Mom, do you know how much your constant arguments with Dad affected Aaron when he was young?"
Jeffery was taken aback. "Did Aaron tell you something?"
Nora nodded. "When he was young, Aaron felt like he was an unloved child by his parents. If Grandpa Jacob hadn't taken him in and raised him, perhaps his personality would have deviated due to your endless arguments with Dad, becoming gloomy and mentally unstable."
"Mom, Aaron is your kid. I believe you wanted to see him happy and fulfilled for a lifetime."
"In a family, parents' harmony will make children more responsible and have a more cheerful personality."
"Although Aaron is no longer a child, I believe that if your relationship with Dad is good, he will be even happier."
Upon hearing Nora's words, Jeffery looked somewhat dazed.
Thinking back to the constant arguments with Caden after marriage and neglecting Aaron, a sense of guilt flashed in Jeffery's eyes.
No wonder she and Aaron were never close.
Perhaps it was because he had been hurt by her and Caden.
She had failed as a mother, never considering Aaron's feelings, immersed in her own world of self-pity.
She never imagined that the turbulence between her and Caden would ripple out to Aaron, leading him to slowly fortify the walls around his heart.
With these thoughts, Jeffery couldn't help but hold Nora's hand, saying, "Nora, I hope you will take good care of Aaron for us in the future."
Aaron was married now, and Jeffery, as a mother, had no right to interfere in his affairs.
She only hoped that Nora could take care of him well.
Nora smiled and held Jeffery's hand in return.
"Mom, Aaron is my husband; I will take good care of him."
"Good." Jeffery smiled with relief.
Nora saw that Jeffery seemed to take her words to heart and pushed a bit further.
Nora added, "Mom, if you feel guilty towards Aaron, why not change for his sake and get along well with Dad."
Jeffery furrowed her brows unconsciously.
"Change?"
"Yes."
Jeffery hesitated for a moment. "Nora, do I really have to learn to sing?"
Nora nodded. "Yes, not only do you need to learn to sing, but you also need to learn to endure. Don't argue with Dad; let him reach his limit, and he will come to you on his own."
Humans were strange creatures.
The tighter Jeffery pushed, the more Caden might want to escape.
Conversely, giving Caden some space might make him turn back.
That was what they called irony!
Jeffery pondered for a moment and then nodded. "I'll give it a try."
Nora smiled; if Jeffery could understand, it would be even better.
She looked forward to the day when things would turn around.
Jeffery and Nora returned to the entrance.
Caden and Aaron had just finished receiving the last group of guests and were about to enter the banquet hall.
Since Jeffery and Nora left, Caden had been absent-minded.
Seeing the two approaching, his gaze immediately stopped on Jeffery's face, trying to discern something.
Thinking of Nora's words, Jeffery ignored Caden's gaze and remained calm without speaking to him.
Nora smiled and called out, "Dad."
"Here," Caden responded and asked, "Did you see her?"
"We did; Ms. Ward is in the dressing room getting ready," Nora replied.
Caden glanced at Jeffery, probing, "Did you say anything to her?"
Nora chuckled. "Just some girl talk. Dad, rest assured, after all, Mom is the Gordon family's hostess. She won't embarrass you or the Gordon family in front of others."
Nora deliberately spoke kindly of Jeffery.
But Caden didn't believe it.
He knew Jeffery too well.
Jeffery wouldn't be so magnanimous.
Caden glanced at Jeffery again.
Seeing her calm demeanor, he couldn't help but feel puzzled.
Caden thought Jeffery would come over and give him a cold, sarcastic remark, but he didn't expect her to be so composed!
Calm to the point that Caden began to doubt himself.
"Aaron, I think all the guests have arrived. Shall we go in?" Jeffery said to Aaron.
Aaron's deep black eyes flickered with surprise.
He hadn't seen Jeffery this calm in a long time.
Jeffery and Nora went to the dressing room, and something must have happened during that time to cause such a significant change in Jeffery.
Aaron responded and walked towards the banquet hall with Nora.
Jeffery didn't even look at Caden, her back slightly straightened, carrying herself with the demeanor of a noblewoman, displaying the grace of a lady.
Change wasn't that difficult.
Jeffery, after all, came from a prestigious background and received a good education from a young age.
If she hadn't met the philandering Caden, she wouldn't have undergone such a drastic change, becoming an uncultured and detestable shrew.
Walking alongside her, Caden noticed Jeffery's slightly raised chin and the change in her demeanor and couldn't help but sneak glances at her.
'Had Jeffery encountered something unpleasant?'
'Or was she preparing a big move?'
'No, I needed to be on high alert to deal with her!' Caden thought.
Behind them, Aaron pulled Nora back a few steps.
He lowered his voice and asked Nora, "Did you and Mom see that singer?"
"We did," Nora replied.
"What happened?" Aaron inquired.
"Nothing happened. I mean it, Mom is the Gordon family's hostess. She won't embarrass you or the Gordon family in front of others." Nora smiled knowingly.
