Chapter 817 He Really Was a Well-behaved Man
He wanted them to commit suicide.
Ernest completely blamed the couple for Aria running away from home.
Kenneth's face was cold and stern. "Ernest, don't go to extremes. Originally, you would only have to serve a few years in prison, and then you could start over. But if you cause a death, it's all over for you!"
Ernest glared at him, his eyes full of hatred.
"Serve a few years in prison? Easy for you to say. My wife is gone. I don't have home now. What's the point of getting out after all those years? What's the difference between dying and living such a life?"
"This is all your fault. You made me. I don't want to live anymore, but if I die, I'm taking you with me!"
Ernest was agitated, the knife at Zephyr's neck scraping his skin and drawing blood.
Although the two officers had guns, they didn't dare act rashly because Zephyr was in Ernest's hands.
"Ernest, don't be so extreme. I advise you to let him go and seek leniency."
One of the officers tried to persuade him.
Jane, standing nearby, observed the terrain and quietly moved behind Ernest, ready to act and rescue Zephyr.
Ernest's eyes burned with insanity. He ignored the police and stared at Kenneth.
"Why aren't you saying anything? Do you want to save him or not? I get it now. You capitalists are the most selfish. You don't care about others when making money, and you care even less when there's danger!"
He glanced at Zephyr. "Did you hear that? If you die today, it's their fault; you know who to blame, right?"
With that, Ernest viciously slashed Zephyr's arm.
Zephyr's face changed dramatically.
He gritted his teeth, trying hard not to make a sound.
Jane paused, her fingers clenched into a fist.
Jane looked at Sandy, anxious and panicked, and held up a finger.
Sandy noticed her gesture and looked over.
Jane pointed at Ernest and mouthed the words, "Calm him down."
Sandy, who had cooperated with Jane before, immediately understood.
She suppressed her panic and said, "Don't hurt him. It's our fault. If you want someone to die with you, let it be me."
"Sandy!" Kenneth's face darkened.
Sandy squeezed his hand and gave him a reassuring smile.
Kenneth's eyes flickered, realizing she was stalling for time, and he said no more.
"Fine, kill yourself right in front of me!" Ernest shouted.
Sandy said, "How am I supposed to kill myself? There's nothing here for me to use."
Ernest glanced at the table and saw a glass. "Break the glass and slit your wrists!"
'Why couldn't he be a bit dumber and just throw the knife over?'
Sandy thought to herself, nodded, and got out of bed to get the glass.
Zephyr, holding his bleeding arm, looked at Sandy with a pale face, his heart pounding.
"Sandy, don't!"
"Shut up, or I'll kill you!"
Ernest cursed viciously, pressing the knife harder against Zephyr's neck.
"Ernest, don't hurt him. Zephyr, don't say another word!" Sandy quickly said.
Zephyr was forced to tilt his head back and remained silent.
Sandy picked up the glass and glanced at Ernest.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Jane getting closer. She then forcefully smashed the glass on the ground.
The sound of breaking glass was distracting.
Jane seized the moment when Ernest's attention was on Sandy, her eyes sharp, and struck Ernest's neck hard.
At the same time, she quickly grabbed Ernest's knife hand and took the knife away.
Feeling a sharp pain in his neck. Ernest screamed. Before he could react, everything went black, and he collapsed.
The two officers quickly rushed over, pointing their guns at Ernest.
One of the officers took out a pair of handcuffs and cuffed Ernest's hands.
Finally, the situation was resolved.
Jane let out a long sigh of relief.
"Jane, we're taking him away now." The officer lifted the unconscious Ernest.
"Okay."
Jane nodded, watching them take Ernest away, then turned to Zephyr, who was holding his arm.
"Are you okay?"
Zephyr's face was pale, and the blood from his arm had soaked his shirt.
Blood was also seeping from the wound on his neck.
Zephyr forced a smile despite the pain. "I'm fine."
"Officer Jane, please take Dr. Wright to see a doctor immediately."
Kenneth helped Sandy back to bed, looking at Zephyr with a complicated expression.
If Zephyr hadn't pushed him away just now, he would have been the one injured.
Zephyr was indeed a man of integrity.
If Zephyr were a scheming man, he wouldn't have saved him. He would have wanted him dead.
Because only if he died would Zephyr have a chance to win Sandy back.
"Alright, let's go."
Jane supported Zephyr as they walked out.
Outside, Nora was holding Otis, guarded by Frederick. She stayed in the doctor's office, keeping an eye on the situation.
Hearing from the medical staff that Ernest had been taken away, she came out of the office.
Seeing Zephyr injured, she quickly approached with concern. "Dr. Wright, are you okay?"
"It's nothing, just a scratch." Zephyr smiled.
Jane looked at the medical station. "Please come and check his wounds."
A medical staff member quickly came over to support Zephyr and took him for an examination.
"Jane, are my brother and Sandy okay?" Nora asked.
"They're fine," Jane replied.
"Who was that man?" Nora looked puzzled.
"He's Ernest, the one who caused trouble at your family's plastic surgery hospital last time," Jane explained.
Nora suddenly understood. "Wasn't he arrested? Did he escape?"
"He probably blamed his unhappy marriage on the hospital, so he came to trouble your brother and Sandy," Jane replied.
Nora shook her head. "He doesn't reflect on himself and blames others. He's hopeless."
Jane nodded. "Adding crime to crime, he'll spend the rest of his life in prison, reflecting on his crimes."
Nora responded, "I'll go check on my brother and Sandy."
"Okay, I'll go check on Zephyr."
"Alright."
Nora entered the ward with Otis.
At this moment, Kenneth was sitting by the bed, talking softly with Sandy.
"Kenneth, Sandy, are you okay?" Nora asked.
"We're fine."
Sandy, always worried about Otis, couldn't wait to hold him.
Nora handed Otis over.
Sandy took Otis in her arms, kissed his little face, and finally felt relieved.
"Thank goodness the child is okay."
"Thanks to Jane and Zephyr," Kenneth said.
"Yes, we owe them a big favor," Sandy agreed.
Kenneth paused. "Zephyr also saved me. He truly is a well-behaved man."
