Chapter 902 Thought She Was a Country Bumpkin

Zephyr frowned, catching the sarcasm in Sadie's voice.

He glanced at Jane, his grip on the fork tightening.

Savannah and Sadie were old hands in the socialite scene.

They were condescending, judging others by wealth and status.

Their words were sharp, masters of social manipulation.

Jane was likely to suffer at their hands.

Zephyr was thinking of how to help her when he saw Jane smile and cut a piece of Truffle Steak, savoring it.

A hint of disdain flashed in Savannah's eyes as she asked, "Ms. Harvey, can you tell what it is?"

Jane chewed carefully, not making a sound.

Sadie laughed. "Savannah, I told you Ms. Harvey comes from a humble background. She probably hasn't encountered such delicacies before. How could she possibly know?"

Savannah sneered, "Should we get her a personal guide then?"

Sadie laughed. "Let me tell Ms. Harvey, this dish is..."

"This is Truffle Steak, and it tastes quite good."

Jane swallowed her food and spoke up.

Everyone was taken aback, not expecting her to know the name of the dish.

Jane smiled slightly and added, "But the beef is a bit lacking in texture. I assume the chef did this to cater to Leonard's taste, as he's older and has a weaker stomach, so the meat needs to be softer for easier digestion."

Leonard, who had been displeased with Jane's background, showed a hint of surprise upon hearing her words.

Jane didn't refute Sadie's sarcastic remarks but demonstrated her sophistication through her actions.

Leonard nodded. "How do you know this dish?"

Jane replied, "I spent some time with wealthy people before, so I've seen a bit."

So that was how it was.

Leonard didn't say anything further.

Zephyr glanced at Jane. Feeling relieved, a smile tugging at his lips.

Leonard was very particular about food, so the chef he hired naturally prepared dishes that ordinary people wouldn't have the chance to taste, famous dishes from various places.

They thought Jane was a bumpkin from a small place, but it turned out Jane's experiences surpassed everyone present.

Sadie and Savannah exchanged a glance, both thinking the same thing.

This dish was too famous; could Jane have guessed it right?

Sadie's gaze fell on another dish, and her eyes twinkled.

"Ms. Harvey seems to have quite a story. Try this liver puff pastry; it's delicious."

She placed a puff pastry on Jane's plate.

Jane took a bite and smiled. "Sadie, did you misspeak? This is foie gras."

Jane actually knew her stuff!

Sadie's eyes flickered, and she laughed. "Yes, look at me, I misspoke."

Savannah, squinting her eyes, also placed a dish in front of Jane.

"Ms. Harvey is impressive. Try this jelly."

Jane took another bite, her expression calm. "This is coconut almond panna cotta. You all seem to be misspeaking a lot tonight."

Jane got it right again!

Savannah and Sadie exchanged an awkward smile and fell silent.

Both of them were thinking that Jane was not an ordinary bumpkin.

Not easy to fool.

Zephyr listened to Jane's quick comebacks, the smile never leaving his lips.

He passed some dishes to Jane, speaking softly, "Eat more."

Jane raised an eyebrow and also passed some dishes to Zephyr. "You too."

They exchanged a smile, everything understood without words.

Everyone at the table, except Leonard, watched coldly, with disdain and chill in their eyes, each one eyeing them like predators.

The two of them ate as if no one else was there, treating the others like air.

Although Leonard was displeased with Jane, he thought he had six months to break them up, so he didn't make things difficult for her.Surrounded by his three sons, Leonard was in a particularly good mood today.

Because he was in a good mood, he naturally drank a few more glasses.

After dinner, Leonard was a bit drunk.

"Dad, let me help you upstairs to rest."

Zephyr saw Leonard sitting on the sofa, his eyes dazed as if he wanted to sleep, and got up to help him.

Hubert quickly gave Patricia a look.

Patricia understood and spoke coolly, "No need for you to help. I'll take care of him. It's late, I won't keep you. Please leave."

She called Hubert and Lloyd, "Help your father upstairs to rest."

Hubert and Lloyd naturally cooperated, getting up to help Leonard upstairs.

"Let's go," Jane said to Zephyr.

Zephyr nodded, not wanting to stay any longer.

"Dad, we're leaving."

Leonard, with his drunken eyes, couldn't pay attention to Zephyr. He mumbled a response and was helped upstairs by his two sons.

Hubert and Lloyd helped Leonard into his room, settled him in, and then left the room.

Patricia followed them out, her face barely concealing her anger.

"Leonard, I've served him diligently all these years, and he doesn't care about me at all!"

Hubert glanced at her and said, "Mom, it's a critical time. No matter how upset you are, you need to control your temper. Just go along with Dad for now, don't oppose him."

"But I'm frustrated. Zephyr, that lowly illegitimate child. I've been kind enough to let him acknowledge his roots. Why should he compete with you for the family inheritance?" Patricia fumed.

Hubert patiently consoled her, "Mom, I know. I'm frustrated too. But don't worry, we won't be frustrated forever."

Lloyd chimed in, "Hubert, Dad has let Zephyr take over the pharmaceutical company, which is the core business of our group. Do you think Dad really plans to let him inherit the company?"

Hearing this, Hubert's expression darkened visibly.

After a pause, he sneered coldly, "Zephyrhas never done business before, even if given the core business, he won't be able to handle it!"

Lloyd frowned and said, "But honestly, our group is a mature enterprise. The company's operations follow a set system. Once Zephyr takes office, as long as his subordinates are competent, even if he does nothing, the company will still run smoothly."

Just like Lloyd himself, although he held the title of general manager and managed several subsidiaries, he was just a figurehead.

He usually didn't handle anything, leaving everything to his subordinates.

The company still ran smoothly.

Hubert sneered, "Lloyd, have you forgotten who the top executives of the pharmaceutical company are loyal to?"

Lloyd realized. "Oh right, they're all on our side. Once Zephyr takes office, if they don't follow his orders, he won't be able to conduct business!"

Hubert nodded, his eyes cold.

"If we can't stop him from joining the company, we'll make him quit on his own!"
