Chapter 481 I'm Popular with Kids
"Then go ahead and stay here. It doesn't matter where you are when I'm not by your side," Aaron said calmly.
After a moment of silence, his voice turned unusually gentle. "You don't miss me so much that you can't sleep, do you?" he asked, gently teasing.
Nora thought to herself, 'He makes it sound like I can't live without him.' She replied, "Is that possible?"
"It is," Aaron said.
His voice became low and tender, and said, "Because I would miss you to the point where I can't sleep."
Helplessly, Nora thought, 'He really knows how to sweet talk. But he can't speak for me.'
"Nora, time feels so slow for the first time. I wish tomorrow was already over; Christmas was already behind us," Aaron sighed softly.
Nora blinked her eyes, bewildered. "Why?" she asked.
"What do you think?" Aaron replied.
Pretending not to understand, Nora said, "I don't know."
Aaron chuckled lightly, and playfully said, "Nora, you want me to say sweet things. Fine, I'll say it."
"I don't want to hear it," Nora quickly interjected.
"But you do," Aaron's low laughter came through. "That way, I can come back to your side, be with you every moment, and no longer suffer from longing," he said, gently.
His voice was deep and tender, saying, "Babe, I miss you so much."
Nora blushed, her heart raced, and her legs felt weak. She wished he were beside her right now so she could throw herself into his arms and act coquettish.
She thought, 'I've really changed a lot. I wish the old, aloof female doctor would come back soon.'
"I need to eat now; I'll hang up first," Nora replied.
If she didn't hang up soon, she would lose her composure.
Nora took a deep breath, then turned her head to see Ebenezer standing right behind her, looking at her intently.
Startled, Nora exclaimed, "Dad, what's wrong?"
Ebenezer replied, "Did I startle you? I didn't mean to. Were you just on the phone with Aaron?"
Nora calmed herself and nodded.
Ebenezer said, "Dinner is ready."
Observing Nora's flushed cheeks, Ebenezer feel a bit displeased, thinking, 'My daughter has fallen for another man.'
That night, Adelbert and Flora warmly insisted that Nora stay over.
Seeing the earnest looks in their eyes, Nora felt obliged to accept their hospitality and stay the night.
They were delighted and asked Ebenezer to show her to her room.
They had previously taken a few children to visit the children's room.
Following Ebenezer upstairs, Nora entered her room, which had been prepared early on.
It was luxuriously decorated, with every piece of furniture being a high-end brand gleaming under the lights, and the wardrobe was stocked with a range of girls' outfits for the new season.
It was evident how much Adelbert and Flora valued her.
Nora felt warm inside. After freshening up that night and lying down on the comfortable bed, she didn't experience any insomnia from sleeping in a different place but rather slept soundly until morning.
Once again, it was proven that her life would have been much easier without a man by her side.
The next day, Nora got up and had breakfast with Adelbert and Flora.
Since the children were on vacation, they stayed here to play.
Nora went to the laboratory.
As she got out of the car, someone called out to Nora from behind.
The voice said, "Dr. Hamilton, what a coincidence."
Nora turned around and was surprised to see who it was.
"It's you?" Nora said, surprised.
It was the man who had almost bumped into her yesterday.
"It's me. Dr. Smith, we seem to have some fate," Matthew said with a smile.
Nora became cautious, and asked, "How do you know my last name is Smith?"
Glancing at Frederick, who was standing next to Nora, looking wary, Matthew chuckled. "Yesterday, I heard this gentleman call you Dr. Smith. I didn't mishear, did I?" he replied.
Hearing his explanation, Nora relaxed her guard, "You didn't mishear. I'll go in first."
Matthew called out to Nora, "Dr. Hamilton, I'm not a local, but I'll be staying here for a while due to personal reasons. I don't know anyone here. Could you help me out and be my guide for a few days?"
Hearing this, Nora frowned and hesitated. She thought, 'I'm not even acquainted with him. How did he end up asking me to be his guide?'
Nora refused, "I'm sorry, but I can't assist with that."
At that moment, someone knocked on the car window.
Matthew said to Nora, " Dr. Smith, please wait a moment."
He walked to the door and opened it, carrying a girl out from inside.
"Erin, we've encountered the beautiful woman that you like," Matthew said.
Erin looked at Nora, then let go of Matthew's hand and walked over to Nora, opening her arms for a hug.
Nora was startled, and she gazed down at the little girl in front of her, thinking, 'What a beautiful little girl. Her skin is as delicate and radiant as silk.
'Her big eyes are pure, capable of washing away the restlessness in people's souls. Although Samantha and Millie are also adorable, she is no less so. And, for some reason, she looks familiar.'
Nora thought for a moment but couldn't remember where she had seen the child before, so she didn't dwell on it. Instead, she lifted her and asked in a soft voice, "Sweetie, what's your name?"
Erin remained silent, just staring at her quietly.
Nora mulled over,' Is she ignoring me? What's going on?'
Nora instinctively looked at Matthew, who seemed somewhat sad, and said, "Dr. Smith, my daughter has mild autism and can't speak."
"Sorry," Nora replied, and thought, 'How did such a lovely child end up with autism?'
Nora felt sympathy and said, "It's all right."
Matthew smiled and said, "My daughter saw you yesterday and really liked you. So, she insisted that I drive here and wait for you early this morning. Thankfully, we didn't wait in vain, as you've shown up. Otherwise, she would have waited without eating or drinking."
Nora thought, 'What an endearing little sweetie.'
As Nora saw Erin continue to stare at her without batting an eyelash, she felt her heart warm up.
But she was curious, 'If this child likes me so much, does she not have a mother?'
Nora didn't want to ask in front of Erin as she glanced at the time, preparing to put Erin down.
However, Erin continued to hold onto Nora, with her legs curled up, and refused to come down.
Nora laughs, and said, " Erin, I have to go inside to work."
Erin remained silent, still clinging to Nora.
Matthew chuckled and said, "Dr. Smith, Erin really likes you. She has never been so attached to someone before."
Nora thought, 'Is that so? Perhaps it's because I'm a mother of three children? So, I naturally emit a maternal aura?'
Nora looked at Erin and said gently, "Erin, I really have to go to work. Can I play with you when I have free time?"
Erin still was not able to speak.
Nora could only seek help from Matthew with her eyes.
Matthew suggested, " Dr. Smith, why don't we exchange contact information first?"
But she wasn't familiar with him.
Nora hesitated, and at this moment, Erin suddenly nodded.
Nora thought, 'Is Erin asking her to add Matthew's contact information? I must be quite likable to children, but it's also a frustrating thing.'
