Chapter 710 I'm Not Interested in You
Indeed, Eric immediately suggested that she should change her job.
Jane smiled faintly. "I'm afraid not. I love my job. Unless I fall seriously ill and can no longer be on the scene, I would never consider switching to a civil service. As for your suggestion of staying at home to take care of the family, that's even more out of the question."
Upon hearing this, Eric frowned. "You're a woman, and women should behave like women. Let men handle the frontline tasks."
Jane glanced at Eric. "Nowadays, men and women are equal. I don't think I'm weak."
Eric sneered lightly, a hint of disdain flashing in his eyes.
"It's not that I look down on women, but the physiological differences between men and women make it so that women simply can't compare to men."
Jane looked at Eric again, not arguing but asking, "Mr. Eric, you run a company surrounded by young and beautiful women. Why would you agree to go on a blind date with me?"
"That's because your profession gives you extra points. Otherwise, how could I possibly be interested in a woman like you who acts like a man?" Eric blurted out.
The smile faded from Jane's face, but she didn't get angry.
"Just now, you were suggesting that I switch to a civil service or resign to stay at home, but if I resign, I won't be a police officer anymore. I will get a bad score from you.
Upon hearing this, the man pushed up the glasses on his nose, a glint of cunning in his eyes.
"Even if you resign, your social relationship remains. You must understand that this society is very practical. Money alone is not enough; you need power, too. You're a police officer. To put it bluntly, if I marry you and something happens in my company, you can help me."
So that was Eric's plan.
He set his eyes on Jane solely to tap into her official resources, aiming for a collusion between officials and businessmen.
Businessmen truly were calculating!
Jane toyed with her teacup, her gaze slightly cold.
At that moment, the waiter brought two freshly brewed cups of coffee.
After thanking the waiter, Jane finished her coffee in one gulp.
"I'm Sorry, Mr. Roberts. I don't think we're a good match. I'll pay for this coffee myself."
With that, Jane took out a ten-dollar bill and placed it on the table before getting up to leave.
"Jane, don't go." Eric was taken aback and quickly called out.
"Is there something else?" Jane asked calmly.
"What do you mean?" Eric inquired.
Looking down at Eric, Jane said, "Can't you see? I'm not interested in you."
She was straightforward, and Eric's face darkened.
"You're not interested in me? Jane, Don't you realize that Justin's high praise is the only reason I agreed to meet you?"
Raising an eyebrow, Jane retorted, "Justin Turner tends to exaggerate. If he hadn't said you were kind and decent, I wouldn't have come to meet you."
She calmly fired back, leaving Eric somewhat embarrassed.
"Ms. Harvey, you should be around thirty this year. You're already an old woman. Look at your unkempt appearance and consider your profession. Do you think any man would want to marry such a manly woman like you? You should be grateful that I'm willing to marry you now."
Jane had no intention of arguing with Eric.
They were simply not on the same wavelength.
But Eric was quite arrogant.
She wasn't thirty; she was only twenty-six.
And a manly woman?
In her younger years, Jane was often likened to a petite princess, delicate and lovely.
As she grew older, she cut her hair short due to her profession.
Jane wanted to hit him.
She moved her neck and cracked her knuckles.
Seeing this, Eric became nervous.
"You can say what you want, but don't lay a hand on me!" he warned.
With a hint of mockery in her eyes, Jane said, "Afraid? You, a coward like you, still want to marry me? You're simply delusional!"
Upon hearing this, Eric stood up abruptly, angry. "Don't think you can insult people at will just because you're a police officer. I'm willing to marry you, a manly woman, and you should feel grateful. Who else would dare to marry you?"
Jane was not one to engage in verbal sparring, nor did she like to argue with people.
As she was trying to come up with a scathing remark, a male voice came from behind.
"Sir, just a reminder, insulting a police officer may constitute an offense of insult. If the circumstances are serious, it could result in up to three years of imprisonment, detention, or control."
Jane instinctively turned around and saw Zephyr sitting at the table behind her, seemingly out of nowhere.
At that moment, Zephyr was looking at her table, speaking softly.
What a coincidence to run into Zephyr again!
"Who are you?" Eric glared at Zephyr.
"Insulting a police officer? You think I'm ignorant of the law? She's not in uniform now, and she's not on official duty. How can you accuse me of insulting a police officer?"
Zephyr looked at him and raised his phone.
"Even if she's not in uniform, she's still a police officer. I recorded your conversation just now. Officer Jane has a good temper and doesn't want to argue with you, but that doesn't mean you can disrespect her. If you don't want trouble, apologize to her. If you don't apologize, I'll post the recording online."
"She's a police officer who risks her life for the safety of our people, but you showed her no respect. How do you think the public will react when they see this? Do you want your company to stay afloat or not?"
People dining nearby turned their heads, casting disapproving glances at Eric.
Eric's gaze flickered, his face flushing with anger. Under everyone's scrutiny, he could only apologize to Jane.
"I'm sorry for being rude. Let's call off our blind date today."
'What bad luck to have chosen Jane for a blind date!' Eric cursed in his heart and then prepared to leave.
"Wait a minute." Zephyr stopped him again.
Eric paused and glared at him. "What's wrong?"
Zephyr said, "If you're a man, don't let the lady pay. You're a boss, for heaven's sake! Surely, you're not so hard up that you can't spring for a cup of coffee. If you're really poor, I might just remind your employees online to be wary of the possibility of your company closing down at any moment."
Eric choked, gritting his teeth. "Who are you to meddle in this?"
Glancing at Jane, Zephyr thought of how she had saved him twice. With an impulse, he said, "She's my savior and the object of my admiration. Perhaps in your eyes, she's a manly woman, but in mine, she's a graceful goddess. If you can't appreciate her, it just shows your lack of discernment!"
Eric choked by his words.
After a moment, he took a deep breath. "Fine, it's my bad luck. I'll foot the bill for her coffee."
With a dark expression, Eric went to pay the bill.
"Well said!" Someone applauded.
