Chapter 164 He Doesn't Seem Too Keen on You

Mary seethed, her fury palpable, as she found herself unceremoniously ejected from the family estate by her own flesh and blood.

Suzy, on the other hand, was stunned by Aaron's stubbornness. She mused, 'Even Jacob's intervention couldn't sway him.' She pinched her own arm gently, the pain causing her eyes to well up with tears. "Mary," she began, her voice choked with emotion, "I regret causing this rift between you and Aaron. It's evident that I'm not destined to be your daughter-in-law."

Upon hearing this, Mary was quick to offer comfort. "Suzy, don't fret. You are the daughter-in-law I've chosen. I'll ensure our company's PR team disseminates the news that our two families are contemplating a union through marriage."

A marriage announcement from Mary herself? This was beyond what Suzy had dared to dream of. She was inwardly thrilled but managed to maintain a facade of worry. "Mary, that might not be the wisest course of action. It could potentially infuriate Aaron."

Caden, who had been eavesdropping, furrowed his brow. "Don't jump the gun. Are you oblivious to Aaron's temperament? The more you pressure him, the more he'll push back."

Mary shot him a glance. "He's my son. He has no choice but to heed my words." She swiftly pulled out her phone, scrolled through her contacts, and dialed the PR manager without a second thought.

The call connected almost immediately, and Mary didn't waste a moment in issuing her commands.

"Jackson, I require a press release announcing that the Gordon family will be uniting with the Hamiltons, and that Aaron will be taking Suzy as his bride."

From the other end, a male voice responded, "I'm sorry, Mrs. Gordon, but Mr. Gordon has instructed that no press releases concerning him are to be issued without his approval."

Mary was taken aback. "When did he make such a decree?"

"Just now."

'So, Aaron anticipated that she would resort to this?'

Mary, her irritation mounting, insisted, "Jackson, I am Aaron's mother, he will obey me. Get it done as I have instructed."

Apologizing with a noticeable lack of sincerity, Jackson responded, "I'm sorry, ma'am, but please don't put us in a difficult position."

Mary issued a threat, "Will you comply with my instructions, or should I find someone more competent to replace you?"

Unfazed, Jackson replied, "Ma'am, I follow Mr. Gordon's orders exclusively. If you believe I'm not fulfilling my duties, by all means, bring it up with Mr. Gordon."

"You!"

"Is there anything else, Mrs. Gordon? If not, I'll be ending the call now."

With that, Jackson disconnected the call.
A pallor of anger washed over Mary's face. Her gaze fell upon Suzy, who stood nearby, her expression one of pitiful distress. Swiftly, Mary moved to console her. "Don't worry, Suzy. I'll figure something out," she assured her.

Internally, Suzy was a tempest of scorn, her outward display of distress a mere performance. 'The matriarch of the Gordon family without a say? Looks like I'll have to fend for myself,' she thought bitterly.

Meanwhile, at Nora's villa, the evening routine was in full swing. Having seen to her two brothers, Nora moved on to her daughter's room to read her a bedtime story. Samantha, still adjusting to sleeping alone, clung to Nora's sleeve as she drifted off. Nora, her eyes brimming with tenderness, waited until Samantha was sound asleep before planting a gentle kiss on her small face and quietly exiting the room.

Retreating to her own bedroom, Nora spent some time engrossed in a medical textbook until Jenny's arrival broke the silence. "Nora, I'm back," she announced, her voice echoing through the quiet house.

"Why are you returning so late?" Nora questioned, setting aside her book. She took in Jenny's exhausted appearance and quickly got out of bed to fetch her some clothes to change into.

"I was helping a new artist with dance practice until now," Jenny explained, gratefully accepting the clothes.

"Was it Edric who drove you home again?" Nora asked.

"No, he had some social engagement. He wanted to send his driver for me, but I refused," Jenny replied, her distaste for Edric barely concealed.

Nora laughed playfully. "So it's just annoyance, or is there something else?"

"What something else?" Jenny blinked, taken aback. "Nora, don't ask me if I've fallen for him or things like that. Just so you know, there's no way I'll ever fall for him!"

Nora mused silently, suspecting that Jenny might one day fall for Edric. "I didn't ask you that. Are you still heartbroken?"

Jenny, taken aback, pondered before replying, "I guess not anymore." With Edric around her every day, she barely had time to wallow in sorrow.

Nora chuckled playfully. "Edric healed your broken heart. That's a silver lining, isn't it?"

'True that!' Jenny's eyes danced as she said, "That's one of the few good traits Edric has."

Nora raised an eyebrow. "He drives you to and from work every day and keeps you laughing. Don't you like that?"

"He's just a playboy. I don't like him," Jenny retorted. Nora fell silent.

Jenny opened the bathroom door, ready to prepare for bed. Then, a thought struck her. "Oh, Nora, how did you get home today?"

"I took a cab," Nora replied, climbing back into bed and picking up her medical book to continue reading.

"Didn't Jack give you a ride?" Jenny blurted out.

Nora looked up at her, her expression a mix of exasperation and seriousness. "Jenny, I've told you, I see Jack as a brother. Don't stir things up. It's just awkward."

Jenny touched her nose guiltily, sighing to herself. 'Poor Jack, likely no love match there.'

"Nora, I just thought, since Jack can't find a girlfriend, why don't you two get together?" She giggled, clearly poking fun.

Nora laughed, replying earnestly, "Jack's a good guy. He will find a wonderful woman who's worth his love."

"With his dry humor, always buried in the lab, he won't find a girlfriend!" Jenny pouted.

An image flashed through Nora's mind. She remembered famed director Sue mentioning Jack, seemingly impressed by him. "Let's leave it to fate. Love works in mysterious ways. Now go take your shower," Nora advised.

Jenny agreed and was about to close the door when she stuck her head back out. "Nora, what about Aaron? Hasn't he said anything?"

The sudden mention of Aaron made Nora's heart skip a beat. "What's his deal?" Jenny asked.

"Did he not even call or text you?" Jenny probed.

Nora cast her long lashes downward. "Why should he call or text me?"

"Shouldn't a man be assertive when pursuing someone?" Jenny argued. "You turned him down, and he just backed off. Seems like he doesn't care all that much about you."
