Chapter 133 Contemplating Marriage to a Divorcee

Aaron's brows knit together as he carefully got out of bed, settled into his wheelchair, and left the bedroom.

The servant helped him downstairs, and he saw his mother waiting on the sofa.

"Mom, what brings you here?"

The glimmer of joy that crossed Mary's eyes when she saw Aaron stand gave her some comfort.

"Aaron, I heard you were back and wanted to see how you were doing. How's the leg? Are you all better now?"

Aaron settled onto the sofa and said, "I can stand, but walking freely is still out of reach. I need more time and therapy."

Mary's dissatisfaction was evident. "How long has it been, and your leg still isn't healed? What about that female doctor? I don't think she's up to the mark; she's just leading you on."

Aaron's frown deepened. "Mom, there's no need to question her competence. If it weren't for her, you might have been visiting my grave instead."

"Aaron, what are you saying? Good people have their destiny, and even if something bad happens, they find their way through," Mary quickly said.

Aaron remained silent. Mary watched him and ventured, "Aaron, tell me, have you fallen for that female doctor?"

Why would his mother suddenly come asking about this?
Aaron's eyes fluttered before he finally nodded. "Yes, I've fallen for Nora, and I want to marry her."

Having broached the subject, he decided to simply own up to it.

Mary's eyes widened in disbelief.

She stood up, walked over, and sat beside him, taking his hand in hers.

"Aaron, you can't be serious? Suzy told me that woman is a doctor who's been married before, Lucas's ex-wife, with three kids of unclear origins, right? And you want to take her as your wife?"

Aaron met her gaze and said, "Mom, Nora's a good woman. It was Lucas who did her wrong."

Mary's chest heaved with emotion. "No matter what, she's not good enough for you! Aaron, you're supposed to marry Suzy!"

"Is Aaron considering marrying a divorcee? That's just absurd!"

"Mom, I won't be marrying Suzy. I see her as nothing more than a sister," Aaron clarified.

"What do you mean?"

Mary was getting heated. "Aaron, our family has had ties with the Hamiltons for generations. Only a dignified and elegant woman like Suzy is worthy of you!"

"What's gotten into Aaron? Did he hit his head when he fell?"

Aaron's lips thinned, and his expression grew darker.

Seeing his disapproving look, Mary could only attempt to persuade him with earnest concern.

"Aaron, think about how difficult your situation could be. Without Hamilton's support, you'd face even greater dangers!"

At that, Aaron spoke up, "Mom, there's no need to say more. I've made up my mind. If it weren't for Nora, I wouldn't be alive."

"Aaron, are you trying to kill me with worry?"

Mary was frantic. "Do you realize that Nora's mother killed my cousin in an accident? Just for that reason alone, I could never accept her, let alone that she's divorced and has three children!"

Aaron was momentarily taken aback, his lips slightly parted.

Mary softened her tone, "Aaron, are you trying to repay a debt? If you feel you owe her, couldn't you just give her some money?"

Aaron fell silent. "Mom, I'm not repaying a debt; I genuinely like her."

His tone was resolute, signaling a conversation-ending certainty.

Mary glared at him. "What do you like about her? You and Suzy have been childhood sweethearts, and she's saved your life, too. What does that woman have that Suzy doesn't?"

Aaron met her stare, saying sharply, "Mom, Suzy's great, but I just don't feel anything for her. Do you want me to marry someone I don't love to end up like you and Dad?"

Would he end up like his father, married to a woman he didn't love, caught in a lifetime of bickering and causing his children to live forever in the shadow of a troubled home?
This wasn't the marriage he had envisioned!

Mary's face flushed myriad colors as she stared at Aaron, wordless.

The air grew tense; Aaron sighed and made it clear she was no longer welcome.

"Alright, I'll handle my matters. I'm busy with official duties; you should go now."

After speaking, he motioned for the butler to help him upstairs.

Mary gazed at his retreating figure, her fingers suddenly tightening.

Aaron had always been decisive. Could she stand idly by and watch such an outstanding man bring a twice-married woman into the family?

Once outside, she pulled out her cell phone and dialed Suzy.

"Suzy, I want all the details on that woman!"

---

Nora had gone to the local supermarket to stock up on groceries before returning home.

Noe offered to help with the cooking, but she gently declined.

"Noe, if the kids wake up, could you bring them back for me?"

"Sure thing."

With that, Noe left, and Nora got to work, washing and preparing for dinner.

Soon, the doorbell rang.

She raced to the door, opening it to find an elegant, well-dressed woman. Nora was puzzled. "May I help you?"

"I'm Aaron's mother."

Mary's stern face surveyed Nora up and down.

She was indeed beautiful; no wonder she had caught Aaron's eye.

Nora had not expected Aaron's mother to show up.

She quickly stepped aside and said, "Please come in."

Mary entered the living room without hesitation, taking in the surroundings.

The interior was upscale.

"Where did this woman get so much money? It couldn't possibly be Aaron who provided for all this, could it?"

"Mrs. Gordon, is there something you wanted to see me about?"

Nora poured Mary a glass of water and then asked.

Mary seated herself on the sofa with a haughty air. "You're Lucas's ex-wife?"

"Yes."

"And you have three children whose origins are mysterious?"

At these words, Nora's expression cooled slightly.

"Mrs. Gordon, feel free to speak plainly."

From the moment Mary walked in, Nora could feel the hostility.

What could Aaron's mother possibly want?

"Fine, I'll get straight to the point."

Mary arrogantly lifted her chin, "We don't need you to fix Aaron's leg. I'll give you money, and you take your three kids and leave Houston."

She wanted her to leave Houston.

Nora's brows knitted slightly. "Why must I leave Houston?"

Mary scoffed, "Oh, what? You can't bear to leave? Are you dreaming of becoming Mrs. Gordon Jr.? Don't delude yourself, Nora!"
Was it because of Aaron? Did she think she was pining for Aaron? Nora mused.

With slightly curled fingers, Nora stated, "Mrs. Gordon, I never intended to become the matriarch of the Gordon household."

"Well then, you should leave as soon as possible," Mary retorted.

Unable to sway Aaron, she had no choice but to target Nora.

As long as Nora left Houston, Aaron would forget she ever existed.
