Chapter 55 Aaron doesn't like You

<Chapter>Chapter 55 Back </Chapter>
After Nora went inside, the three kids gathered around Aaron.
"Mr. Thomas, were you and Mommy playing a word game?"
Samantha's eyes were sparkling with curiosity.
Aaron chuckled.
"Mr. Thomas, you kissed Mommy, does that mean you'll marry her?"
Samantha tilted her little head, giggling.
Aaron couldn't help but laugh, patting her head.

Samantha, noticing he didn't reply, cooed sweetly.
"If you marry Mommy, you'll get three smart and cute kids. And when you're old, we'll take care of you."

Watching the adorable little girl, Aaron burst into laughter.
"So, you guys want me as your Dad?"
Samantha's eyes lit up, glancing at Billy, "Yes, yes!"
Billy's eyes shone too, but he looked at Alex.
He didn't mind, he followed his older brother's lead.
Alex furrowed his brows slightly and said to Billy, "Billy, take your sister to help Mommy with dinner, I'll take Mr. Thomas for some fresh air."
"Okay."
Billy, knowing Alex must have something to say to Mr. Thomas, took Samantha inside.
In the courtyard, Aaron looked down at the little figure before him, grinning, "Alex, got something to say to me?"

Alex's young face was solemn. "You're the famous Aaron, right?"

Aaron raised an eyebrow, "You got it."

"Yes, but my brother and sister don't know."

After a brief pause, Alex inquired, "Do you like my mommy?"

Aaron paused, choosing his words, "I'm quite fond of your mommy."

"So, you wanna pursue her?" asked Alex.

"You have an objection?" Aaron prodded with another lifted brow.

Alex met his gaze. "My mommy doesn't need a rich man. We're going to make money and take care of her. All we want is for a man to be good to her and not be a jerk who breaks her heart. Can you promise that?"

The boy's big, bright eyes were filled with innocence but underscored with a serious coolness.

Aaron saw a reflection of his younger self in him.

He hesitated briefly, "Promises aren't something I give lightly."

Promises meant a lifetime, and he was not yet ready for that.

Alex's brow furrowed with concern. "Mr. Gordon, in that case, please don't pursue my mommy. She's been hurt once before, and we won't allow anyone to hurt her again."

Aaron's lips curved into a small smile as he gently patted the boy's head. The child's maturity astounded him. He was fond of the kid, and his mother too. But his feelings for her were still uncertain.

The rest was up for consideration.

In the kitchen.

Samantha squatted next to Billy, watching him help peel potatoes while she peeked outside.

Nora finished a dish and noticed her curious behavior, chuckling, "What are you looking at, Samantha?"

"I'm checking if Alex is giving Mr. Thomas a hard time," Samantha blurted without thinking.

Nora blinked in surprise, "Why would Alex give Mr. Thomas a hard time?"

Samantha blinked her big eyes and covered her mouth. "Oh, nothing."

"Spill it, or no beef stew for dinner," Nora threatened playfully.

"Don't, Mommy! I'll tell, really!" Samantha hurriedly responded.

"Out with it," Nora encouraged with a smile.

"It's just that Mr. Thomas kissed you, so I told him he has to marry you. I don't know what brother is saying to him right now."

Nora was speechless.

What was this kiss and marry talk?

That little rascal was always spouting nonsense.

With her cheeks warming, Nora squatted down to look her little one in the eye.
"Samantha, honey, I know you wish you had a dad, and I'm sorry that's my fault. Once he's healed, he'll be leaving. So no more wild stories, okay?"

Blinking her large eyes, Samantha asked, "But Mr. Thomas 's really nice. Don't you like him, Mommy?"

"I don't," Nora said firmly, a rare gravity in her voice.

She wasn't even considering Aaron's influential background.

Simply put, he had a girlfriend, and she wasn't one to interfere in someone else's relationship.

Samantha's little head drooped.

"Why doesn't Mommy like Mr. Thomas? I really like him."

Nora felt a twinge of pity but remained resolute. "You can like him all you want, but you can't go around making things up, understand?"

Samantha responded in a subdued tone.

Nora tousled her daughter's hair and went back to cooking.

Billy saw his little sister looking so forlorn and whispered in her ear.

"Don't be sad, Samantha. People's feelings can grow. Before Mr. Thomas leaves, we can try to make them like each other!"

Samantha's face brightened at his words.

She nodded vigorously, casting aside her earlier unhappiness.

"What should we do, Billy?"

"Well, I haven't quite figured that out yet."

Billy scratched his head with a goofy smile, just trying to cheer her up without any real plan in mind.

"Well then, think of something!"

"I will, I'll think of something."

Night fell.

Nora looked at her soaked bed in astonishment.

"What? How did my bed get all wet?"

The large wet patch spread from the sheets to the blanket, everything thoroughly drenched!

Could it be that a stray cat or dog had snuck in and urinated on the bed?

She leaned over to sniff the stain and, detecting no foul smell, let out a sigh of relief.

It wasn’t the smell of an animal, so what could it be?

Full of questions, Nora had no choice but to set them aside and rummage through storage for clean bedding.

But the house was full, and the only spare set was already given to Aaron, so there were no extras.

Nora even checked the children’s room but found no replacements.

"Mommy, Mommy, what are you doing?" Samantha's childish voice called out from her little bed.

"I'm looking for a new blanket," Nora replied, closing the cabinet door, muttering to herself, "I still don't get how my bed got all wet."

Hearing this, Samantha and Billy exchanged a look, guilt flickering in Billy’s eyes.
"Mommy, your bed is wet. Where will you sleep tonight?"

The water soaking Mommy's bed was his doing.

The fact that Mommy had nowhere to sleep meant she might have to share Mr. Thomas 's room. That was his plan. If they spent more time together, surely they'd start to fall for each other.

"Or maybe tonight I can just squeeze in with Samantha," Nora mused aloud.

Samantha instantly shook her head vigorously.

"No way, my bed is too small! There's no room for both of us, it would be too cramped," she protested. Springing to her feet, she slipped on her little slippers and took Nora by the hand. "Mommy, come with me."

"Where are we going?"

Samantha dragged Nora downstairs to Aaron's room and pushed open the door.

"Mommy, Mr. Thomas 's bed is really big. Remember, the four of us slept together that one time and it wasn't cramped at all! Tonight, you can sleep in his room!"

Nora was speechless.
