Chapter 1085 Would She Stay Overnight?

Samantha wasn't dumb. She'd chatted with Millie a few times, and Millie always seemed to drop Alfred's name, whether she meant to or not.

And now, Alfred had just asked her to get involved, which got Samantha thinking. 'Could it be that the girl Alfred's into is actually me?'

Millie shot back, all vague: [I know you like Wesley, but I kinda wish you were into Alfred instead.]

Samantha blinked, feeling like she might be overthinking things.

Millie asked if she'd be jealous, probably 'cause she wasn't into Wesley herself and was trying to set Samantha up with Alfred.

Samantha couldn't help but laugh, then she replied: [As long as you know who I like. Alfred's life, Alfred's choice. I'm not jealous; I'm just watching the show.]

Millie sent a sighing emoji.

Samantha switched gears: [What about you and Billy, still no progress?]

Millie: [Don't rush. Once you and Wesley make it official, Billy and I will definitely move forward.]

Samantha: [Why do you always use me as a benchmark?]

Millie: [Duh, 'cause you're my cousin.]

Samantha: [But Billy's my brother.]

They joked around for a bit and then wrapped up the chat.

Samantha started watching a movie to kill time, waiting for Wesley to finish work and come out.

"Samantha, have you been waiting long?" Wesley opened the car door and hopped in.

"Nope, just watching a movie." Samantha put away her phone. "You done with work?"

"Yeah, all set."

"Can we go now?"

"Yep." Wesley checked the time. "You hungry?"

Samantha touched her stomach. "A little."

"Let's grab some food before we head back." Wesley initially wanted to take Samantha out for a meal, but remembering the crappy lunch, he decided to eat at home.

"Never mind, let's eat at home." Wesley looked at Elijah, who had just gotten in the car. "Elijah, order us some food."

Elijah nodded. "Sure, what do you want?"

Wesley looked at Samantha. "What do you feel like eating?"

Samantha shrugged. "Anything's cool."

Wesley turned to Elijah. "You pick."

"Okay." Elijah pulled out his phone and ordered all of Wesley's favorite dishes.

The car rolled into River View Estate, and they all headed back to Wesley's place.

Alfred, who'd been tailing them, frowned. Things were moving too fast. They'd started holding hands in the afternoon, and now Samantha was going back to Wesley's house. Next, she might be spending the night.

The thought made Alfred's heart sink. Even though he knew that if they got serious, sex was bound to happen sooner or later, he still felt anxious.

"Pathetic," Yahir, who'd been quiet, looked at the worried Alfred with disdain.

Alfred snapped back. "Who are you calling pathetic?"

Yahir replied, "You! What's the point of secretly protecting her?"

Alfred glared at him. "Then what do you suggest?"

Yahir said, "Go and take her away. That guy's a twig, and you're built like a tank. Scared you can't handle it?"

Alfred was speechless. He shouldn't have discussed relationship stuff with simple-minded Yahir. "I can take her away, but do you think I can win her heart?"

Yahir thought for a moment and pulled out his phone.

Alfred was curious. "What are you doing?"

Yahir said, "I'm reporting to Mr. Gordon that there's a guy trying to woo Miss Gordon."

Alfred was speechless. Yahir wasn't entirely simple-minded after all. He got the idea of calling for backup when you can't win. "Wait, don't report to Mr. Gordon just yet."

Yahir asked, "Why not? Mr. Gordon told me to keep Miss Gordon safe and sound."

Alfred nodded. "I get it, but if you go straight to Mr. Gordon, he'll probably rush over here. Samantha will be super annoyed, and it might just push her closer to Wesley."

Yahir thought about it and agreed, "So, what's your plan?"

Alfred grinned. "Chill, you'll see soon enough."

Yahir muttered, "Man, you're always so cryptic."

Alfred replied, "Come on, let's spar."

Yahir rolled up his sleeves. "You said it."

---

In Wesley's apartment, the food Elijah ordered finally arrived. The three of them sat down at the dining table.

Samantha looked at the dishes, all spicy, and suddenly lost her appetite. She wasn't super picky and could handle some spice, but this was overkill. She'd already broken out in small pimples from eating spicy food with Wesley twice before.

"What's wrong? Not feeling the food?" Wesley asked, noticing Samantha barely touching her plate.

Elijah's eyes shifted, and she smiled. "Samantha, are you too used to Gourmet Restaurant food to handle this? Want me to grab you something from there?"

"No need, I'm just not that hungry," Samantha quickly brushed it off.

"Samantha, is it really that this place's food doesn't suit your taste?" Elijah said, "This place may not be fancy, but it's affordable and Wesley loves it. I forgot you're from a rich family and might not be used to small restaurant food."

Elijah had ordered all of Wesley's favorite dishes, which, coincidentally, Samantha didn't like. Her words were a subtle jab at the social class difference.

Samantha glanced at Elijah, feeling a bit uncomfortable. But Elijah was good at pretending, with an apologetic look on her face, making it hard for Samantha to tell if she was deliberately trying to provoke her. "Elijah, I didn't mean it that way. I'm really just not that hungry."

Wesley interjected, "Then eat a little less and have more when you're hungry."

"Alright." Samantha simply stopped eating and picked up the water cup next to her to drink.

Elijah ignored her and continued to take care of Wesley's meal with gentle attentiveness. Wesley also enjoyed it calmly, as if it was a normal occurrence.

Samantha watched, feeling a bit uneasy. It wasn't that she was overthinking; their interaction was just a bit too glaring.

Samantha thought about the women's clothes in Wesley's house and the fact that Elijah lived right across from him. Looking at the current situation, if Elijah wasn't just an assistant, she might as well be his girlfriend.

In the entertainment or music industry, Samantha had heard of many artists having ambiguous relationships with their assistants.

Realizing her thoughts, Samantha's eyes flickered, and she reminded herself, 'Wesley isn't that kind of person. If Wesley and Elijah really had something going on, how could he be so calm in front of me? That would make him too scheming, right?'

After the meal, Wesley said to Elijah, "Elijah, clean up and then head back."

Elijah's movements stiffened for a moment but quickly returned to normal. "Okay." She cleaned up and left.

The apartment was now just Wesley and Samantha. Their eyes met, and the atmosphere suddenly became charged.

Samantha felt happy and a bit nervous, thinking, 'A man and a woman alone together, and now that we are in a relationship, will Wesley kiss me?'
