Chapter 127 Have You Thought about Finding a Stepdad for the Kids?
Nora listened to the sounds around her, the warm breath brushing by her ear, sending a wave of heat straight to her heart.
Her heart fluttered, and she found it impossible to concentrate.
Her hand was enveloped in his larger one, the man's deep, magnetic voice still ringing in her ears.
"Don't grip so tight. Listen to my commands. Breathe in, and breathe out. Aim for the target."
Nora swallowed hard, trying to focus as she followed his instructions, lining up her shot.
With a whoosh, the arrow soared and landed squarely in the bull's-eye.
"Bull's-eye, wow! Mommy, you're awesome!" Samantha clapped enthusiastically.
The others joined in with applause.
But was it really her doing?
It was obviously thanks to Aaron's guidance behind her!
Nora's cheeks flamed, and she gave an awkward smile.
Turning her head, she found herself inches from Aaron's handsome face.
His fine lips were only a few millimeters from hers, just a small lean forward and...
Nora's breath hitched, and she quickly stepped to the side, steadying him.
"Who told you to stand up? Sit back down!" Aaron's arched eyebrows questioned her as he looked at her blushing face.
"Nora, are you feeling warm?" he asked.
Her cheeks felt like they were on fire.
She settled Aaron back in his wheelchair, fanning her flushed face. "It's a bit hot. What's with this weather? Isn't it the end of summer? Why is it still so warm?"
Aaron fell silent.
Watching Nora, Aaron couldn't help but feel his own heart rate pick up.
"Noe, is my mommy shy?" Samantha, noticing Nora's discomfort, questioned Noe, standing beside her.
Quickly covering Samantha's mouth, Noe whispered, "Your mom gets shy easily!"
"If you keep this up, Nora might get annoyed, and then our pleasant evening would be ruined," Noe thought.
Samantha blinked understandingly and nodded.
Releasing her, Samantha exhaled and called out, "Mom, don't be embarrassed."
Everyone else stayed quiet.
After playing a little while longer and noticing it was nearly ten o'clock, Nora rounded up the troops. "Alright, kiddos, it's time to head home."
The three children, although still wanting to play, obediently agreed.
Aaron watched them leave the amusement park reluctantly and smiled. "We came too late today. Next time, we'll come earlier."
"Yay!" Samantha's eyes lit up with joy.
Her two brothers also smiled broadly, delighted.
They all piled into the car, with Noe behind the wheel heading home.
On the way, the three children dozed off from exhaustion.
When they arrived home, Nora tried to wake them up, but not one stirred.
"Don’t wake them; let them sleep. Each of us can carry one home," Aaron whispered.
Noe had already gotten out of the car, pulled out the wheelchair, and helped Aaron into it.
"Hand Samantha to me," Aaron said.
"Sure."
Noe opened the rear door of the car and gently placed the sleeping Samantha into Aaron's lap.
Aaron held her tightly, draping his jacket over her.
With that, Nora picked up Alex, and Noe, cradling Billy, all made their way back into the house.
Noe went upstairs, assisting Nora in settling the three kids into their beds.
Aaron watched the upstairs staircase from his wheelchair, cursing his slow-healing legs for not allowing him to help Nora tuck in the kids.
"Noe, thanks for all your help today."
After Nora had quickly wiped the children down and changed them into pajamas, she stepped out of the children's room to express her gratitude to Noe.
"No trouble at all. I'm just following Mr. Gordon's orders. You should really be thanking Mr. Gordon," Noe smartly put in a good word for Aaron in front of Nora.
Nora smiled, thinking to herself, Aaron really knows how to delegate.
"I'm going to take a quick shower. Could you look after Mr. Gordon for a bit? I'll be down shortly to treat him."
"Of course," Noe responded, heading downstairs.
Nora entered her bedroom, grabbed a change of clothes, and walked into the bathroom.
Looking at herself in the mirror and reflecting on the day's events, she sighed lightly.
The kids always seemed happy, but she could tell that today, they were extra joyful.
It was because of Aaron's presence.
He had filled the void of a father's love for them.
So, should she start looking for a dad for them?
Maybe Aaron?
The face of Sunny crossed her mind.
No, with Aaron’s reputation and character, he did not meet her standards.
Shaking her head, Nora cleared the clutter of thoughts and slipped out of her clothes for a hot shower.
By the time she came downstairs, Noe had already left.
Aaron was lying in bed, browsing on his laptop.
"You showered pretty fast today," she remarked, glancing at him.
Aaron gave a half-smile, thinking it was all to avoid wearing her out.
"How's your leg? Is it very swollen or painful?" Nora asked.
"A little bit," Aaron replied.
"I'll massage it in a bit."
Nora opened her acupuncture kit, took out the silver needles, and began to work on him.
Aaron said nothing, watching her intently as she concentrated on her task.
After finishing, Nora looked at him and said, "About the incident at school today, I want to thank you again and also apologize."
Apologize to him.
Aaron slightly raised an eyebrow. "Why apologize to me?"
"My daughter shouldn't be calling out names in front of others," Nora said as she tidied up the first aid kit.
Was that it?
Aaron's dark eyes narrowed. "Nora, children need the presence of adults; the love of a father is just as important as that of a mother. Have you ever considered finding a father for the three kids?"
Nora felt a slight surge of emotion within her.
She hadn't thought about it before, but now, she was starting to.
"Nora, the kids really like me."
"Thomas, you're just my patient, and once you're better, you'll leave my life. I don't mix work with personal life."
Nora cut Aaron off mid-sentence.
Even if she entertained the idea of finding a father for her children, Aaron was definitely not the one!
Aaron's lips formed a thin line, and he said nothing more.
Nora cast a glance at him and saw he had closed his eyes to rest, but she couldn't tell what was on his mind, and a strange discomfort weighed on her heart. She was too affected by him.
Fortunately, starting tomorrow, they would part ways.
After treating Aaron's wounds, Nora returned to her room.
Lying in bed and staring at the ceiling, she closed her eyes and hugged the teddy bear by her pillow, forcing herself to sleep.
She thought she'd be restless, but surprisingly, she slept straight through until morning.
It must have been because she was worn out from the day!
Luckily, today was Saturday, so there was no need to wake up early to take the kids to school.
Nora stretched, flung off the covers, and got out of bed.
Her phone was ringing.
It was Jack calling.
She remembered she had forgotten to tell Jack that she didn't need him to accompany her to buy furniture today!
Nora quickly answered the call.
"Jack."
"Nora, are you awake? I'm almost at your place."
Nora chuckled awkwardly, "Jack, you don’t need to go furniture shopping with me today; I managed to get everything yesterday."
