Chapter 353 Another Pearl Lost in the World

Nora found herself exchanging pleasantries with a handful of noble ladies who had approached her. Yet, her heart yearned for the solace of a quiet corner, a place where she could rest her face, weary and nearly frozen from the constant smiling. "Tired?" Aaron's voice broke through her thoughts as he offered her a glass of juice. She cast him a frosty glance, retorting, "Thanks to you, isn't it?" She blamed him for her current predicament. If not for his unnecessary actions, she wouldn't have found herself in such a situation. It was far from pleasant. "Yes, it's all my fault. Can I go back and let you scold me as much as you want?" Aaron coaxed softly, attempting to soothe her. Nora, however, had no desire to engage with him. She quickly moved past him, her skirt billowing as she made her way towards Kenneth. Aaron watched her go, a helpless smile on his face. He knew the road to winning her back was a long one. Catching up with Kenneth, Nora inquired, "Kenneth, where's your wife?" Kenneth paused, his voice steady as he replied, "She's pregnant and needs to take care of the baby." Nora was taken aback, a surge of happiness washing over her. "She is pregnant? That's great! But why does she need to take care of the baby? Is there something wrong with the child?" Kenneth's eyes flickered slightly, and he cleared his throat, "No, I hurt her." Understanding dawned on Nora, her medical background providing the context. She chuckled, advising, "Kenneth, you should be more careful in the future."

During the early stages of pregnancy, it was best to avoid sexual activities. Kenneth, feeling awkward discussing such a topic with his sister, quickly changed the subject. "Nora, we are family now, so please come back more often." Nora smiled, "Okay." She wanted to, but she feared Emma might not welcome her return. Kenneth seemed to understand her concerns, reassuring her, "Even though my mom has a bad temper, she's not a bad person. Just spend more time with her in the future." Nora nodded, not offering much in response. At that moment, Howard approached with a glass of wine in his hand. He looked somewhat uncomfortable as he said, "From now on, we will have one more sister in the Hamilton family. Nora, welcome home." Despite their past conflicts, Nora was still his sister. He would treat her the same way he treated Suzy. "Thank you, Howard," Nora responded, her smile brightening the atmosphere. "Shall we have a toast?" Howard proposed. Aaron, persistent as ever, offered juice to Nora. She glanced at him, opting instead to ask a waiter for a glass of red wine. "Shouldn't we drink when making a toast?" she challenged. Aaron was at a loss for words. "You shouldn't drink wine! You're not feeling well," Aaron frowned, concern etched on his face. Nora fixed him with a stare, "Aaron, haven't I told you to stop meddling in my affairs?" Aaron said, " If you're not feeling well, isn't it my responsibility to worry about you?" Nora was rendered speechless, unable to form a response. Kenneth and Howard, noticing the tension, exchanged a glance, their eyebrows raised in surprise. These two were quarreling! But why?

"Kenneth, what did Aaron do to upset Nora?" Kenneth's voice was stern, his protective instincts flaring. "I warn you, Aaron, if you dare to bully her, I will not stand idly by."Beside him, Howard nodded in agreement, his voice echoing Kenneth's sentiment. "That's right, I won't tolerate it either."Aaron was taken aback, rendered speechless by their accusations. "How could I possibly bully her?" He wanted to protest, to tell them that he was the one being mistreated, but the words wouldn't come.Nora watched the exchange, a warm feeling spreading through her at the sight of her two brothers standing up for her. Ignoring Aaron's resentful gaze, she raised her glass in a toast with them. Aaron could only frown and shake his head in helpless resignation. He made a mental note to have the servants prepare some hot ginger coffee with brown sugar for her before they left, hoping to soothe her."Mr. Hamilton, Mr. Gordon, it's been some time," a familiar voice interrupted their conversation. The newcomer was a familiar guest, who requested a private word with Kenneth and Aaron. Kenneth and the man exchanged nods of understanding. Turning to Nora, Kenneth assured her, "Nora, I'll be right back.""Go ahead, Kenneth," Nora replied, her smile untroubled. Aaron wanted to say something to Nora, but before he could, she turned her attention to Evella, who was rushing towards her. Aaron watched her go, his heart heavy with unspoken words. Was she still angry with him?‘ Would he really dare to kiss her in public? He thought bitterly to himself, muttering under his breath. He feared truly angering her, making his journey to win her back even more arduous.Howard watched Aaron's defeated departure with a curious expression. "Nora, are you two alright?" he asked.Nora followed Aaron's retreating figure with her gaze before shaking her head at Howard. "We're fine," she assured him.Howard nodded, a knowing smile on his face. "Lovers' quarrels can be quite interesting," he mused.Lovers. The word echoed in Nora's mind as she studied Howard's clear, elegant features. "Howard, have you met the Romero family heiress yet?" she asked, remembering Emma's mention of Miss Romero's interest in Howard.Howard was about to reply when Evella's voice rang out. "Nora, I never expected you to be Uncle Hamilton's daughter, a gem just like me, lost in this world!" Evella linked her arm with Nora's, giggling.Nora chuckled at the metaphor, but before she could comment, Howard interjected. "A gem? You certainly know how to flatter yourself."Evella's smile faltered, and she turned to Howard, displeased. "I was speaking to Nora. Why are you interrupting?"Howard met her gaze coolly. "The space is large enough for sound waves to travel. I'm not deaf. If I hear a mistaken comment, am I not allowed to voice my opinion?"Evella was taken aback. Was Howard deliberately picking a fight? "Are you implying that Nora doesn't deserve the title of 'gem'?" she challenged.Howard scoffed. "Evella, there's no need for you to stir up trouble between Nora and me. Nora undoubtedly deserves the title 'gem.' Even without her status as a Hamilton, she's a highly skilled master healer. Unlike you..."He let his sentence trail off, the unspoken words hanging in the air, a clear jab at Evella. Evella bristled at his words. "What's wrong with me? Even if I'm not the Remington family's precious daughter, I will become an award-winning screenwriter in the future!"Howard raised an eyebrow. "In the future? So what are you doing now? Just a spoiled rich girl waiting for death?""I'm not! I'm a web novelist!" Evella retorted. Before being recognized by the Remington family, she had made a living writing online novels.Howard looked surprised. "Just you?"Evella lifted her chin, pride evident in her posture. "Don't believe me? My novels on a well-known website are incredibly popular!"Howard chuckled. "Is that so?""Of course!" Evella sized Howard up. "You must be a very boring person, Howard. You probably don't even go online and read novels in your free time, do you? Well, it makes sense. You're much older than us young people, so it's normal for you not to understand me."Howard was taken aback. Was he really that boring? Was he really that much older? He was only five or six years older than her, but somehow, he had become a boring old man in her eyes.Howard laughed coldly. "An internet writer? I remember there was someone who got caught writing erotic novels recently, and he called himself an internet writer, right? So you're a third-rate writer who specializes in writing erotic novels online? Are you proud of such an experience? Don't you feel embarrassed?"
