Chapter 636 What Background Is Behind
Elara's eyes flashed with a hint of embarrassment; she said, "Chief, I didn't capture her boyfriend. I saved him. If it weren't for me, that man would have been long gone."
Deborah frowned, probably understanding.
Elara seemed to have taken a liking to Nora's boyfriend and wanted Nora's boyfriend to stay in Lumirians.
In the past, she wouldn't have bothered with such matters of the younger generation. But now, it was a matter of life and death for Ruth, so Deborah had to intervene.
She said, "Alright, Elara, do as Dr. Smith says. As long as she can cure Ruth, you should return her boyfriend to her."
"Chief!" Elara was indignant.
Deborah glanced at her, not saying a word, but her gaze was clearly intimidating.
A hint of unwillingness flashed in Elara's eyes, but because Deborah had given the order, she had to comply.
Looking at Nora's calm and serene face, she smiled coldly. "Let's see what you're capable of."
Nora ignored Elara's sarcasm and focused on how to treat Ruth.
"Chief, I need an operating room and some medical supplies," Nora informed the chief of the necessary medical equipment and supplies.
Elara, on the side, sneered, "If there were advanced medical supplies, wouldn't I save her? Nora, if you can't save her, don't make excuses to delay."
In fact, even with advanced medical equipment, Elara couldn't guarantee saving Ruth. But in front of Nora, she certainly wouldn't show weakness.
This time, Deborah didn't refute her words. She said, "Sorry, Dr. Smith, our resources here are limited. I'm afraid we can't prepare the medical supplies you just requested. Does that mean we can't save Ruth without those medical supplies?"
Before Nora could speak, Elara interjected, "Chief, don't believe her. She's just stalling for time. It's better to send them away sooner."
The chief looked at Nora skeptically and said, "Dr. Smith, if you can't save Ruth, then I'm afraid I can't help you."
After Nora and Elara finished speaking, Nora replied, "Chief, don't worry. I was just asking routine questions, and I didn't say I couldn't save her."
The chief asked, "Are you saying that even without those advanced medical supplies, you can still save Ruth?"
Nora replied, "I'm human, not a god. Without the necessary conditions, I can't do it."
Upon hearing this, Elara sneered again, "Nonsense, you're just incapable of saving her anyway. Get out of here quickly!"
Nora glanced at her and said, "I didn't say I couldn't save. If there are no conditions, then create them."
Elara narrowed her eyes and asked, "What do you mean?"
"It means I will arrange the surgery myself; you don't need to worry about it," Nora replied, thinking about who could bring the medical supplies here.
She had initially thought of getting Howard involved. But thinking of the fake Aaron in Lindwood City, she hesitated. If she did that, it might alert the fake Aaron.
Once alerted to the fake Aaron, he would definitely be on guard.
So, it was best to keep Lindwood City and the Hamilton family's connection private.
Without using Lindwood City and the Hamilton family's connection, where else could she turn to?
Nora subconsciously glanced at Alex.
Alex understood Nora's thoughts and whispered a few words in Erin's ear.
The Jones family had not only a powerful intelligence agency but also a top-notch medical team.
Erin was the future head of the family, and as long as she gave orders, everyone in the Jones family would obey.
So Alex told Erin to dispatch a top medical team to assist Nora in the surgery.
After hearing this, Erin nodded in agreement.
Alex then said to Nora, "Mommy, we'll have the Jones family send their top medical team over to assist you in the surgery."
Nora smiled. "Okay."
"Uncle Noe, give me the satellite phone," Alex said to Noe.
Noe knew he wanted to contact the Jones family, so he quickly handed him the satellite phone.
Watching Alex make a serious call, Elara was quite shocked.
She hadn't expected that such an inconspicuous child like Alex could give orders and monilize a medical team. Although Alex seemed so young, his eyes were sharp, and his words were decisive; clearly not an ordinary person.
Who were these people exactly?
"Mommy, everything's arranged; the medical team will come as quickly as possible," Alex said after the call.
"Good, thank you." Nora smiled, patting Alex and Erin's heads.
Elara stared at her and said, "Nora, you didn't deliberately find an excuse to seek help, did you? If you secretly call for reinforcements, I can make sure your boyfriend rests in peace immediately!"
Hearing this, Nora replied, "Elara, I'm not like you; I won't do such despicable things. I said I would save her, and I will definitely prove my skills with my medical expertise."
After that, she looked at Deborah and said, "Chief, I'll go in and prepare first."
Deborah nodded. "Okay."
Elara watched Nora's calm and composed face, her expression changing.
Nora was sharp-tongued and sarcastic.
She instinctively glanced at Deborah and saw that Deborah's look had changed from doubt to trust.
Elara had experienced this kind of trusting gaze before.
When Deborah had admired her intelligence and wanted to groom her to be the chief, she showed a similar look.
Now, Deborah seemed to appreciate Nora, too.
Could it be that Deborah wanted to keep Nora as the future chief?
Elara's heart tightened, feeling increasingly unwilling.
As a woman of immense pride, she simply couldn't bear the thought of being surpassed by anyone. This feeling of being stifled, however, was something others could hardly comprehend.
Nora was about to go inside to prepare.
Kimberly opened her arms to block Nora's path and asked, "Auntie Nora, can you really save my grandma?"
Nora had just noticed Kimberly, and now she looked at her. Kimberly was about the same age as Alex, and she had tears in her eyes.
Nora smiled slightly and said, "Trust me, I will try my best."
Kimberly, watching Nora's pleasant smile, had tears streaming down her big eyes. She said, "Auntie Nora, you must save my grandma."
Women with children tended to have softer hearts and couldn't bear to see children cry.
Nora bent down slightly, wiping away the tears from Kimberly's eyes, and said softly, "Don't cry; I promised to do my best."
Kimberly sniffled, tears still flowing.
Alex glanced at her and saw the runny nose, so he handed her a tissue, saying, "Wipe your tears."
Kimberly, with tearful eyes, looked at him and took the tissue, saying, "Thank you."
"You're welcome," Alex replied.
Alex hadn't expected that such a simple act of kindness would bring him a wave of bad luck with women, even extending into his adulthood!
Nora entered the house and said to those following her, "All of you, go out."
Deborah and the others prepared to leave.
Elara's gaze flickered. She said, "No, who knows whether you'll tamper with things inside?"
Nora glanced at her, not bothering to argue. "So what do you want?"
"I want to watch you here," Elara replied.
