Chapter 476 Kicking Him Out
Chloe once again pulled away her hand, calmly saying, "Are you really using the pretense of taking care of me to seize my inheritance?"
Arthur's heart skipped a beat as he stared straight at her, a guilty smile on his face. "Chloe, why would you say that?" he asked, feigning innocence.
Chloe explained, "I say this because you should have guessed that Nora has cured my illness. I am no longer the fool I was before."
Chloe looked at him, her voice cold. "So, you don't have to pretend anymore. Let's get a divorce, and you can leave with nothing."
Arthur thought, 'What? She wants me to leave with nothing. Is this even possible?'
The smile on Arthur's face faded, and of course, he was unwilling.
Having worked so hard to win over Chloe, he refused to divorce her so easily, with his disguise completely torn apart.
He stood up and sat across from Chloe, his tone arrogant.
"Chloe, I have taken care of you for nearly twenty years. Now that you've recovered, you want to kick me out just like that? Is it that easy?" Arthur questioned, refusing to leave.
"What do you want?" Chloe asked, looking at him.
Arthur said, "If you want a divorce, that's fine. But you must divide your assets with me. After all, we are husband and wife, and marital property belongs to both of us. If you want to divorce me, I have the right to claim my share of the property, right?"
He thought, 'Chloe is wealthy. In addition to countless real estate properties under her name, she also has original shares in the Woodhouse Group. I divorced her and took away half of her assets without having to care for her anymore. It was a joyous occasion for me, as I could now reunite with Elsa and Olivia.
Chloe glanced at him mockingly and said, "Wait a moment."
After speaking, she got up and went upstairs.
Arthur watched her figure as she walked away and pretended to be concerned, saying, "What are you going to do? Are you going to draft the divorce agreement, Chloe? Perhaps we should hire a lawyer to do it for us.
"Of course, I don't actually want a divorce. We have been together for nearly twenty years, and I have feelings for you."
Chloe pretended not to hear and went upstairs to retrieve a document before coming back down.
"Take a look at this information first, and then decide whether you want to leave with nothing," Chloe advised.
Arthur hesitated for a moment and curiously took the document.
The more he read, the more serious his expression became.
The information recorded in this document detailed all the evidence of how he had amassed wealth through the Woodhouse family over the years, as well as some of the wrongdoings he had committed, such as accepting bribes and recently instructing the bodyguards to deal with the thugs who had bullied Olivia, among other evidence.
Arthur quickly skimmed to the bottom of the document and saw the last few lines, causing his fingers to tighten.
Chloe actually knew that he had switched Nora all those years ago.
Nora was the biological daughter of Ebenezer and Emma.
It was he who had switched Nora.
Back then, Ebenezer mercilessly sent Elsa to prison.
Faced with his own beloved woman's plea, he was filled with hatred and anger and had always wanted to retaliate against Ebenezer.
So, when Emma was nearly seven months pregnant, he urged Chloe to find Emma and suggested they go on a trip together.
Emma felt sorry for her naive sister Chloe, so she quickly agreed. And as Chloe's husband, naturally, he had to accompany them.
Under his insistence, he even planned their travel route.
They went to a historical site. When they arrived, he accidentally arranged for someone to bump into Emma during the journey.
Emma fell and went into premature labor.
In a hurry, he took Emma to a nearby hospital, which he had also arranged in advance.
The head nurse here happened to be his cousin, so, under his carefully crafted plan, he switched Nora with another child born on the same day, and that pregnant woman happened to be Charles' wife.
Ebenezer had caused pain to his loved one, and now he wanted to make Ebenezer's loved one suffer.
But he didn't expect that after more than twenty years, the Hamilton family would be able to find Nora again.
Chloe looked at Arthur's panic-stricken expression, her voice remaining calm, and asked, "Have you finished reading? Do you still want to split the assets with me?"
Arthur slowly lifted his gaze and looked at the woman in front of him, his chest heaving.
"When did you wake up? How did you find these things?" he asked, frantically. In his eyes, Chloe was just a weak and helpless woman whom he could control.
However, he did not expect that she had secretly prepared a bomb for him, catching him off guard.
Instead of directly answering, Chloe said, "Arthur, the truth always comes out eventually. You should have some boundaries as a person. Considering you have been taking care of me for nearly twenty years, as long as you leave with nothing, I won't make these documents public, nor will I tell anyone that Olivia is the biological daughter of you and Elsa."
Hearing this, Arthur's heart skipped a beat, and his eyes widened. She knew about this, too.
"How did you find out?" he asked, baffled.
Chloe smiled lightly, saying, "Arthur, I may have lost my sanity, but not my memory. Now that I've returned to normal, of course, I can deduce what happened in the past."
Arthur looked at her calm face, feeling a moment of daze. In fact, he had admired Chloe before. But due to the disparity in their social status, he didn't dare to dream of being with her.
After she went insane, the Woodhouse family accepted him and made him her husband. Initially, he was also delighted. Unfortunately, Chloe lost the grace of her wealthy upbringing and became foolish after going insane. Over time, he naturally stopped admiring her.
But now, Chloe had become the woman who once made his heartbeat.
Deciding to divorce her meant forfeiting all the wealth he owned. He knew that in the days to come, he would lose the respect and admiration he received whenever he stepped out. A wave of loss engulfed him in an instant.
Arthur rose from his seat and moved next to her, reaching for her hand once more, determined to make a final plea.
"Chloe, you may not realize it, but I've always held feelings for you. Can't we reconsider this divorce? I promise to cherish you for the rest of our lives. We're still young; we could start a family, Chloe," Arthur pleaded, with desperation.
"That's enough," Chloe reprimanded and shook off his hand, feeling disgusted.
"The divorce agreement is here. Are you going to sign it?" Chloe asked, indifferently.
Arthur pleaded, "Chloe."
She warned, "I'll give you until the count of three. If you don't sign, I'll call the police immediately."
Chloe retrieved her phone and began the countdown.
"Three, two," Chloe counted.
Veins bulged on Arthur's forehead, stressed, as he uttered, "Chloe."
She coldly continued, "One."
As Chloe reached the final count, poised to make the call, a desperate Arthur interjected, "Please, don't do this. I'll sign."
Realizing there was no turning back, he reluctantly signed the divorce agreement.
Once the document was signed, Chloe declared, "Leave. I'll pack up your belongings and have them sent to you and Elsa's house. Please never set foot in my home again."
Because of that, he was ousted from the Woodhouse family.
The reality was hard for him to accept.
