Chapter 295 Mistaking Sunny for Nora

"Where, pray tell, was your personal assistant during all this? Why did he not attend to you?" Quinn queried, her tone laced with suspicion.

In response, Aaron explained, "He had managed to soil his attire, so I sent him back to his quarters to freshen up."

Upon hearing this, Quinn's eyes narrowed in contemplation. It seemed all too convenient. Aaron, inebriated beyond his usual composure, found himself without his usual attendant due to a mere clothing mishap. And then, a woman swooped in to seize the opportunity?

"Aaron, I implore you to reflect once more. Did anything transpire between you and this Sunny...?" Quinn probed, her determination unwavering.

A silence fell over Aaron, the quietude hanging heavy in the air.

Quinn inwardly groaned. Why, in such critical moments, couldn't he be less forthright? Couldn't he weave a harmless falsehood? She cast a sidelong glance at Nora, noting her displeasure.

Taking a steadying breath, Quinn informed him, "Aaron, you should be aware that Nora is present with me."

The implication hung in the air like a guillotine. Trouble was certainly brewing.

The sound of labored breathing echoed from the other end of the line.

After a moment, Aaron managed to utter, "Nora, I... I apologize for last night. I don't believe I did anything to wrong you."

His voice was tinged with an unusual hint of panic.

Nora pressed her lips together, struggling to articulate her emotions.

She managed a strained smile, "Do you truly believe that?"

She was not deaf.

If Aaron had not laid a hand on Sunny, he would have vehemently denied it.

Yet, he claimed uncertainty.

Thus, there was a fifty percent chance that he had shared a bed with Sunny.

Regardless of whether it was a case of Aaron succumbing to drunken desires, the undeniable fact was that his body had been in contact with another woman.

This was something she could not tolerate!

"Nora, allow me to explain..." Aaron began.

"I've heard enough, Quinn. I'm going to breakfast," Nora interjected, her gaze falling as she swiftly descended the staircase.

Quinn ended the call and trailed after Nora.

"Nora, I'd like to share my perspective," Quinn ventured.

Nora remained silent, her lips pursed, but she slowed her pace as they continued their descent.

Quinn continued, "This entire situation seems too coincidental, too suspicious. Aaron was away on business, so how did he encounter Sunny? And his personal assistant, how did his clothes become soiled, leaving Aaron unattended? It appears to be a setup. Sunny must have orchestrated this trap for Aaron."

Nora listened, her mouth twisting slightly, "Even if it was a trap, he still fell into it, didn't he?"

The circumstances were irrelevant; the crux of the matter was his intimacy with another woman.

The mere thought made her feel as though she had inadvertently swallowed a dead fly—utterly repulsed.

"Nora, didn't Aaron claim he was unaware of what transpired? We need to confront the other party involved and uncover the truth about last night," Quinn reasoned.

Nora halted, turning to face her, "Do you believe Sunny will be truthful?"

Quinn's eyebrows lifted, "We just need to find a way to coax the truth out of her."

Nora bit her lip lightly, a glimmer of hope flickering in her heart, but she quickly stifled it.

How could nothing have occurred when a man and a woman were left alone together? Sunny had been eyeing Aaron for some time, and she had seized an opportunity to pursue him.

Meanwhile, on the other end of the line.

Aaron ended the call and turned to Noe, his aura radiating intensity.

"Where is Sunny?" Aaron demanded.

Noe responded, "Mr. Gordon, I reviewed the surveillance footage. She departed at five this morning."

Aaron's gaze hardened, "Is she attempting to manipulate me?"

Noe lowered his gaze, remorse coloring his features, "I apologize, Mr. Gordon. I should have escorted you to your room yesterday."

He was filled with regret, realizing his lapse in judgment had provided Sunny with the opportunity she had been awaiting.

Aaron's lips pressed together in a firm line, his decision to remain silent an unspoken testament to his inner turmoil.

His phone broke the silence, its shrill ring echoing in the room. Glancing at the caller ID, a hint of danger flickered in Aaron's dark eyes.

Sunny. The audacity of her to call him!

Maintaining a cool facade, Aaron answered the call, his voice detached. "Hello."

"Mr. Gordon, I'm sorry, I had no idea there were reporters staking out last night," Sunny 's voice came through the line.

Aaron's tone was icy as he responded, "Really? Are you sure you weren't setting me up?"

"I didn't! Mr. Gordon, I just wanted to wait for you to fall asleep before I left, but you didn't let me," Sunny insisted.

Aaron's brows furrowed slightly as he recalled the previous night.

The client had been difficult, prompting him to drink more than he usually would. He remembered Sunny at his door, offering to help him inside. His legs, still weak from the alcohol, had given in to her assistance.

Once inside, he had asked her to leave, but she had insisted on staying until he had showered, expressing concern for his inebriated state.

His head had been spinning, and he had lacked the energy to argue, so he had retreated to the bathroom to shower. When he emerged, she had handed him a glass of water and helped him to bed.

And then...

Aaron's frown deepened.

He had a vague memory of seeing Nora, of things happening that were best left unsaid. Had he truly wronged Nora?

A sinking feeling settled in his heart. "Are you saying, last night, I really..."

Sunny hesitated for an instant, then spoke up shyly, "Mr. Gordon, don't worry, I absolutely won't tell Miss. Smith."

With those words, Aaron's heart plummeted. Had he really had an encounter with Sunny? Had he mistaken her for Nora in his drunken state? His head, already pounding, throbbed painfully.

"The news is everywhere; wouldn't it be helpful if you spoke up?" Aaron suggested, rubbing his temples as he closed his eyes.

"Mr. Gordon, maybe I should just explain to her. I could say I stayed because I was worried you might throw up in the middle of the night, and nothing actually happened between us," Sunny suggested tentatively.

Aaron, feeling irritable, didn't respond and abruptly ended the call.

Her explanation seemed futile given the circumstances. How could Nora possibly believe that? Right now, he couldn't concern himself with assigning blame. What mattered most was how to explain this to Nora and earn her forgiveness.

Meanwhile, in a bustling city, Nora, igNorang Quinn’s advice, was on her way to the laboratory. Quinn hadn’t accompanied her, having other matters to attend to. Nora had called for a ride and, while en route, received a call from Sunny.

"Miss. Smith, you've seen the news, right? Nothing really happened between Mr. Gordon and me. Please believe me," Sunny stated plainly as the call connected.

Her voice was gentle, her words meant to explain, but to Nora's ears, they sounded unbearably smug. She could detect the triumph in Sunny’s tone.

Nora gripped her phone tightly and responded coldly, "I hope that's the case! Do you remember plagiarizing my paper? I hope you're not keen on experiencing the embarrassment of a public apology again."

With that, she ended the call.

On the other end of the line, Sunny sat on the couch of her hotel suite, her face a whirlwind of expressions.

Nora had threatened her! Everyone seemed to be threatening her lately! It was just too much. Why did she have to be the scapegoat now? All she wanted was to make a place for herself in this cutthroat world, to stand out. Why was that so hard?

Now that she had offended Nora, her only option was to rely on Suzy. She hoped Suzy wouldn't disappoint her and would quickly offer her some good opportunities to rise to fame! Once she became popular, she wouldn't have to fear anyone!
