Chapter 1072 Just Don't Trust You

Wesley threw out his line, and even though Samantha thought it was kinda off, she just grinned and went with it 'cause, well, love makes you do crazy things. "Sure thing."

Wesley grinned back, eyes locked on her lips. His Adam's apple did a little dance, and he lifted his hand to gently grab her chin, leaning in for a kiss.

Samantha, all shy, shut her eyes.

Then, BAM! A loud noise from the door made them jump, killing the mood instantly.

Samantha's eyes flew open, and she pushed Wesley away, her cheeks turning red. "What the heck was that?"

Wesley, clearly ticked off, said, "I'll go see."

He walked over and yanked the door open, finding Alfred standing there.

Alfred, with his usual poker face, looked at Wesley. "What's up?"

Wesley glared at him for a couple of seconds, not even bothering to ask about the noise. He knew Alfred did it on purpose. "Nothing. Aren't you tired of just standing there?"

"Yeah, I am. I'll come in and chill for a bit." Alfred strolled right in.

Wesley almost laughed out of sheer frustration.

Inside, Samantha saw Alfred and asked, "Did you go for a walk?"

"Yeah, and now I'm beat. Mind if I crash here for a bit?" Alfred said.

Samantha wanted to say, "Sure, no problem." But remembering Wesley's words about not liking other guys around her, she hesitated. "Alfred, maybe you should head back first?"

Alfred raised an eyebrow. "You want me to wait for you at your place?"

"No, you've been running around all day. You must be exhausted. Go back to the hotel and rest."

'Hotel? Is she trying to get rid of me? She's never done that before.' A flicker of hurt crossed Alfred's eyes but vanished quickly. Now wasn't the time to get all emotional.

Alfred knew Samantha and Wesley were probably about to get cozy. He couldn't stand it, so he made a noise to interrupt.

If he left, they'd just pick up where they left off. He didn't like Wesley, so no way he was leaving. He wasn't gonna let Wesley get close to Samantha.

"Alright, Billy was asking if I had seen you. I'll head back and fill him in on today." Alfred said this on purpose, hoping Samantha would catch his drift.

She got it right away and got a bit anxious. "Don't go yet. Wait and leave with me. I need to talk to you."

"Okay." Alfred agreed so fast it was almost funny.

Wesley, standing nearby, felt a knot in his stomach and frowned. 'Samantha was about to send him away, why is she letting him stay? Is she ignoring what I said?'

"Wesley, wanna pick up where we left off?" Samantha asked.

Wesley, clearly annoyed, checked the time. "I just remembered I have an appointment. Gotta go. Let's continue tomorrow."

He turned and walked out.

Samantha blinked, thinking, 'Is Wesley mad?'

"Samantha, I think he's pissed. Is it 'cause of me? Is he being a bit of a baby?" Alfred knew the answer.

"Don't talk about him like that," Samantha softly scolded, then hurried after Wesley. "Wesley, what's up?"

Wesley just said, "Nothing."

"Are you mad?"

Wesley glanced at Alfred, who was giving him a smug look.

'I can't blow up in front of Alfred, or I'll lose points with Samantha, and Alfred will swoop in.' Thinking this, Wesley gently rubbed Samantha's head and spoke softly, "Nah, I'm not mad. I really do have an appointment. I'll cut back on work soon so we can hang out more."

Wesley’s actions were sweet, and his face was all soft and gentle.

Samantha smiled, feeling better. "Okay."

"I gotta go now."

Samantha nodded.

"Remember what I said." Wesley was hinting she should steer clear of other guys.

Samantha replied, "Got it."

Wesley ruffled her hair again, shot a challenging look at Alfred, and then left. Once he was out of sight, his face turned dark.

Elijah, walking beside Wesley, could tell he was in a foul mood.

Wesley could've ditched this appointment. If he was in a good mood, he would've stayed with Samantha longer. But he went, which meant he was pissed. And it was probably 'cause of Alfred.

Elijah's eyes flickered, and she said, "Samantha's guy friend is pretty good-looking. I chatted with him a bit. Heard he and Samantha go way back."

Wesley knew they were childhood buddies. His mood soured even more. "What else did you talk about?"

Elijah said, "I don't know him well, so not much. But it's clear Alfred cares a lot about Samantha. I suggested we go for a walk, but he refused and stayed outside."

Wesley stayed quiet.

Elijah continued, "I think he likes Samantha."

Hearing this, Wesley sneered, "So what? Wishful thinking!"

Elijah's eyes flashed, pretending to hesitate. "But..."

"Spit it out. Don't beat around the bush." Wesley was getting impatient.

Elijah said, "Wesley, I'm not saying Samantha's bad, but I think girls with boyfriends should keep their distance from guy friends. But she seems chill about it. She was alone at home and let Alfred in. Besides cooking together, who knows what else they did. I've been with you for a long time, and maybe I've read too many scripts. I feel girls like Samantha are flirts. They make everything about themselves, surrounded by guys, showing off their charm."

Elijah went on and on, but Wesley couldn't take it anymore. "Enough! Stop projecting. Samantha isn't like that."

Elijah stopped, looking at him with some hurt. "I didn't want to say it, but you asked."

Wesley stayed silent, annoyed.

Elijah's lips curled slightly. She thought, 'Being together isn't just about liking each other. Sometimes, it's the doubts and mistrust that lead to breakups. Wesley is sensitive. If I keep making him doubt, he'll eventually give up on the relationship.'

In the music room, Samantha looked at Alfred seriously. "Alfred, you need to keep your distance from me."

Alfred's eyes darkened. "Why?"

"Because I don't want Wesley to get the wrong idea."

"Wrong idea about what?"

"That there's something going on between us."

Alfred looked at her. "Does he not trust you that much?"
