Chapter 355 Her Subjugation
Gary's gaze shifted to Timothy, a question lingering in his eyes. "Timothy," he began, "is it true?" Timothy responded with a dry chuckle, "Let's table this discussion for later, Gary." He hadn't ventured here to dissect that particular matter. There was a more pressing issue that demanded immediate attention.Timothy's gaze hardened as he turned to Luna. "Luna," he demanded, "what is happening here? Why did I summon you? Have you forgotten our father's warning?"
Luna's expression faltered at his words. She had been the instigator of Aiden's previous shenanigans, which had led to a temporary halt in several collaborations between the Hamilton and Moore families. Consequently, her father had instructed her elder brother to bring her here to apologize to Nora and seek her forgiveness. Her father's warning still echoed in her ears - if she failed to secure Nora's forgiveness, not only would her potential union with Gary be jeopardized, but she would also be banished abroad, never to return. With this daunting thought in mind, Luna finally found her voice. "I'm sorry," she muttered.Nora glanced at her, her voice steady and calm. "I'm sorry, but I don't accept insincere apologies." She had no need for such hollow words, especially from someone who hadn't even recognized their error. "Nora, don't push your luck!" Luna retorted, her anger flaring. "I never apologize to anyone! Don't take advantage of my situation!" Nora remained unruffled, her voice steady. "Luna, perhaps you should research the appropriate way to apologize before returning."Luna was taken aback, but before she could respond, Timothy interjected. "Ms. Smith is correct, Luna. You need to reflect on how to properly express your remorse." Luna's expression shifted rapidly between surprise and indignation."Timothy..." she began, but he cut her off. "Enough with the formalities, just apologize already!" His forceful gesture left Luna standing in sullen silence.Gary couldn't help but chuckle at the spectacle. "Timothy, aren't you being a bit harsh? She's been headstrong since childhood. How can she suddenly learn respect?" Luna tried to interject, but Gary silenced her with a stern look.
His eyes gleamed with mockery. "Do you honestly believe someone like you could ever be my wife? I refuse to endure your daily annoyances! I can't fathom what my parents were thinking, wanting me to marry a woman like you. I'm going to confront them right now!" With that, he strode away, leaving a stunned Luna in his wake."Gary, wait!" Luna attempted to follow him, but Timothy held her back. "Please, Luna, stop making a spectacle of yourself. Do you really want to be banished by Dad, never to return?" His words struck a chord, and tears welled up in Luna's eyes."Why does he treat me this way? Why? Isn't it supposed to be easier for women to pursue men? Then why, after a decade of pursuit, does he despise me even more?" Timothy could only sigh, a headache and a heartache brewing simultaneously."Enough, Luna. Stop crying before you ruin your makeup," he pleaded. Luna sobbed, wiping away her tears. Her makeup smeared, giving her the appearance of a weeping panda. Nora observed Luna's pitiful state, a mix of amusement and sympathy stirring within her.Despite Luna's previous actions that had tainted Nora's opinion of her, there was a certain admirable persistence in her relentless pursuit of Gary. However, her family's indulgence had spoiled her, and her approach to courtship was decidedly flawed.
With this thought, Nora procured a tissue and extended it towards Luna. "Men are inherently complex creatures," she began, her voice carrying a note of wisdom. "Sometimes, when you pursue them too fervently, it has the opposite effect. It's akin to holding sand in the palm of your hand; the tighter your grip, the quicker it slips away. Perhaps your love was too overwhelming, causing him to feel suffocated and develop an aversion towards you."Upon hearing this, Luna sniffled, her teary eyes meeting Nora's gaze. After a moment of silence, she pursed her lips and accepted the tissue, her voice tinged with a hint of admiration. "You sound like an expert in matters of the heart."Nora merely responded with a smile, choosing to remain silent. Luna dabbed at her tears and lowered her gaze, her voice barely above a whisper. "I'm sorry."This apology seemed more heartfelt than any previous ones.Nora quirked an eyebrow, her tone playful. "What was that?"Luna fixed her with a stare. "You heard me.""And what did I hear?""I apologized to you!"Nora nodded, her voice laced with amusement. "It does sound more sincere this time."Her teasing demeanor caused Luna's eyes to well up once more. "You're just bullying me!" she accused. Nora rubbed her forehead, finding Luna's propensity for tears to surpass even that of her own daughter. From a distance, Timothy observed the scene, his gaze contemplative. "I apologize, Ms. Smith. Our family has been overly indulgent with my sister. I hope you can overlook her childish behavior."Surely, Nora would forgive her now?Nora offered a smile, her mind drifting to a previous incident. "Last time, Luna was instigated by Suzy, wasn't she?"Timothy paused, turning to Luna. "Luna, did Suzy provoke you?"Luna sniffled, her voice shaky. "I was already upset, and Suzy's words only served to fan the flames."Upon hearing this, Nora raised an eyebrow, her tone approving. "At least you're being honest."She didn't lay the blame entirely on Suzy. This indicated that Luna, despite her flaws, possessed a certain purity of character."Ms. Smith, Suzy provoked my sister without reason. I suspect she was targeting you, attempting to teach you a lesson through my sister, correct?" Timothy, had an uncanny ability to decipher the underlying meaning behind every sentence.Nora nodded, her voice steady. "Yes, there was some friction between us."Timothy's eyes flickered with indifference as he responded, "I see. We both assumed Suzy would end up marrying Aaron."He recalled the incident where his family had offended the Hamiltons due to his sister's actions."You're quite the character, stealing a movie star's man," Luna remarked with a sneer.Nora retorted, "I didn't steal anyone's man. If he's meant to be mine, he will be. If not, there's no point in forcing it."Nora's beauty was undeniable, her elegance radiating from her.Despite her initial dislike, Luna found herself inexplicably drawn to Nora."You must have had a string of boyfriends," Luna ventured.Nora appeared taken aback. "Why would you say that?""Because men seem to be drawn to you," Luna explained. The number of high-quality men showing interest in Nora surely indicated a wealth of experience in dealing with men from past relationships!Nora chuckled, her voice light. "You're mistaken. I have a poor judgment when it comes to men. I've only been in one relationship, and he turned out to be a jerk. I ended up divorced just a month after getting married."Luna's eyes widened in surprise. "That's so unfortunate!"Nora smiled, her voice steady. "It may seem unfortunate, but I don't consider myself unlucky. Nothing is absolute, and many things can change. Do I look like I'm doing poorly now?"Luna considered her words, scrutinizing Nora from head to toe. "You're quite persuasive.""Just okay," Nora replied modestly.Observing his sister's transition from hostility to cordiality towards Nora, Timothy felt a sense of relief wash over him.Ms. Smith was indeed a remarkable woman for having managed to tame his stubborn and willful sister.
