Chapter 870 Talking About Your Love History

Mateo's face was tense, but still handsome. Noe continued, "Dr. Smith is stubborn. She's met so many great people, but she's only got eyes for Mr. Gordon. No matter how much others try to mess things up, they can only watch and envy."

Mateo glanced at Noe. "Mr. Gordon's just lucky Dr. Smith stuck around for him."

Noe nodded. "Exactly. I saw their whole love story unfold. Want me to tell you about it, Prince Mateo?"

Mateo glared. "No!"

Noe grinned. "I get it. Hearing about love isn't fun when you're single. Here, have some soup."

"I'm not hungry."

"Want me to get someone else to feed you?" Noe asked.

Mateo's eyes lit up. "Who?"

"Frederick."

Mateo was speechless.

"Or we could both feed you. One holds your nose, the other pours it in," Noe teased.

Mateo sighed, grabbed the bowl, and drank the soup in one go. "Tell me their story."

Noe laughed. "Prince Mateo, you love torturing yourself, don't you?"

"Are you going to tell it or not?"

"I'll tell."

Meanwhile, Nora had no idea Noe was busy fending off her suitors. After breakfast, she noticed Noe hadn't come out yet and looked puzzled.

"Frederick, hasn't Prince Mateo finished his breakfast?"

Frederick replied, "He has, but Noe's telling him about your love story."

Nora was speechless. She didn't have a love story! Noe was ruining her reputation!

She pressed her ear against the door and heard Noe vividly recounting events between her and Aaron.

"Frederick, don't talk nonsense. I haven't been leaving my heart everywhere. It's Mr. Gordon who's been doing that, right?"

Frederick looked at her. "You two are equally matched."

Nora's eyes widened. "Frederick, you've turned bad too."

Frederick said nothing, thinking, 'It's because of you two. You're both so cunning. I've been influenced.'

Inside, Noe was talking so much his mouth was dry, and his stomach was growling.

"Alright, that's enough for today. I'm hungry. I'm getting something to eat. Prince Mateo, if you need anything, call Frederick."

Mateo was still lost in Noe's story, feeling emotional. 'If I had met Nora and we fell in love, would she have stood by my side like she did with Aaron?'

'A wonderful woman like Nora surely would.'

But Nora was destined to be his regret.

"Prince Mateo, King Tomas is here," a bodyguard reported.

Mateo collected his thoughts, moved slightly, and pretended to be weak. Actually, he didn't need to pretend; he was genuinely weak.

Hugo opened the door and respectfully ushered Tomas in. "King Tomas, Prince Mateo, take your time to talk. If you need anything, just call."

Tomas nodded and walked briskly to the bedside.

"Dad," Mateo moved slightly and called out.

"Don't move."

Tomas sat by the bed, looking concerned. "Are you alright?"

Mateo smiled. "I almost died, but Dr. Smith saved me."

"I heard you got injured protecting Dr. Smith?" Tomas was somewhat displeased.

To Tomas, Mateo was the most precious person, and it was everyone else's job to protect him. No one was worth Mateo getting hurt for.

"Yes, you always taught me to be virtuous, and I've kept that in mind," Mateo said sincerely. "Dr. Smith is my savior. She almost got into trouble because of me. If I saw her in danger and did nothing, it wouldn't be the act of a gentleman, and I wouldn't be worthy of being your son or a noble prince."

Mateo's words not only cleared Nora's name but also flattered Tomas, praising his good upbringing. Tomas was pleased.

Tomas pondered for a moment, squinting his eyes. "You mean, the people who came after Dr. Smith did so because she healed you, and they wanted to kill her?"

Mateo nodded. "Yes."

Tomas squinted, vaguely guessing something, and his face darkened. "Mateo, do you know who doesn't want her to heal you?"

Mateo glanced at Tomas, hesitated, and looked troubled. "Forget it, Dad. It's nothing. I'll be more vigilant in the future and won't let anyone harm Dr. Smith or myself again."

Tomas stared at him. "Mateo, being kind is good, but as a royal, you must not be soft-hearted towards enemies. Tell me, who did this?"

Mateo sighed. "It should be Miguel."

Tomas was silent for a moment. "Are you sure?"

"Yes," Mateo said. "I thought Dr. Smith might be in danger because of my recovery, so I had people secretly protecting her. Yesterday, I saw Miguel's men here, and I knew Dr. Smith was in danger, so I rushed over."

Tomas's face was stern, and he didn't look pleased.

Mateo pretended to be conflicted. "Dad, there's something else I haven't told you."

"Go ahead."

"I seem to remember something."

"What is it?"

Mateo took a deep breath. "When I fell off the cliff as a child, it was probably also Miguel's doing."

Tomas's eyes were deep. "Are you sure?"

Mateo looked at him and grabbed Tomas's hand. "Dad, don't blame him. Maybe it's because I'm not good enough that they treated me that way. I thought if I followed your teachings and maintained brotherly harmony, they would treat me well. But they still think I'm not worthy of being their brother. Maybe it's my fault."

Tomas looked at him for a long time. "They?"

Mateo forced a smile. "Rafael probably had a part in it too. Miguel always follows his lead, but I think Rafael must have tried to persuade him."

Tomas's face was stern, and after a moment of silence, he said, "I understand. Mateo, you should know that I have always liked you and wanted to groom you to be the future king. Since you are now clear-headed, once you recover, come and help me with some affairs."

This indicated that he intended to start relying on Mateo.

Mateo's eyes flashed, and he pretended to hesitate. "Dad, I'm not very capable, and I've been foolish for so many years. I'm afraid I'll disappoint you."

Tomas patted his hand. "Mateo, you are my son. I know you're not that foolish."

Tomas's words were meaningful, and his sharp eyes seemed to see through everything. Mateo lowered his eyes, avoiding his gaze.

"Let's go. Come back with me to recuperate," Tomas said.

"Dad, it's quiet here. Let me stay here to recover." Mateo's words were sincere this time.

Tomas looked at Mateo and suddenly asked, "Do you like Dr. Smith?"
