Chapter 831 Not Letting Millie Meet Her
"Did you hear me? You better hold it in," Diego said to Mia.
Mia remained silent, but her eyes were filled with intense hatred.
Outside, Nora and her group waited for a while. The door opened, and a servant invited her in.
The accompanying bodyguards also tried to enter but were stopped by the servant.
"You can't come in."
Nora didn't know Hchilia but got the servant's meaning.
"You wait for me outside. James, Frederick, you come in with me."
"Okay."
"Yes."
James and Frederick accompanied Nora inside.
In the living room, they saw Hugo and two others sitting on the sofa.
"Dr. Smith, the young one is Hugo, and the other two are Diego and Mia," James whispered to Nora.
Nora nodded and stood in the middle, her gaze falling on Hugo as she smiled slightly.
"Mr. Rochet, I'm Nora. Where is Millie?"
Hugo's gaze swept over James, a hint of coldness in his eyes.
Then he looked at Nora, smiling, "You know who I am. It seems Ms. Smith has done some work before coming."
Nora replied, "Of course, since I'm here to find my daughter, I need to know who took her, right?"
Hugo smiled meaningfully and said, "Ms. Smith, you already have triplets of your own; isn't that enough? Why take someone else's daughter as your own?"
Nora pretended not to hear Hugo's sarcasm and calmly said, "I brought Millie home, so there's no reason to abandon her."
Hugo said, "But now Millie's family has come for her. Shouldn't Ms. Smith return Millie to her family?"
Nora glanced at him and added, "I don't think so. She is not an orphan in Chrisland."
She implied that Millie had family in Chrisland.
She was Millie's family.
At this moment, a servant led in a refined-looking man.
He was the governor, Marco, invited by Hugo.
Hugo quickly stood up to greet him, "Mr. Ferrari, you're here."
Marco shook hands with him, and they exchanged a few pleasantries.
"This is Ms. Smith from Chrisland, who adopted Millie. She insists on taking Millie from Uncle Diego, which is causing us a lot of trouble."
Hugo glanced at Nora, feigning a troubled expression.
Diego also looked sorrowful, saying, "Mr. Ferrari, please, you have to help us. Our son is gone, and my wife and I were lost. Finding our granddaughter brought us back from the brink. She's everything to us, our reason for being. If someone takes her away from us, we won't have anything left."
Naturally, Marco sided with the Hchilia people. He comforted Diego and then looked at Nora politely.
"Ms. Smith, I'm the person in charge here. I understand the situation. The child is from our country, and since her family has found her, you have no right to take her away."
James translated the conversation for Nora.
Nora pursed her lips slightly.
This Hugo was not an ordinary person.
He had thought of everything, even involving government officials.
With official intervention, she had even less reason to take Millie away.
Of course, Nora never expected Hugo to hand over Millie immediately.
"Mr. Rochet, can I see Millie?"
Hugo feigned regret and said, "Sorry, Ms. Smith, I'm afraid not. Millie just got home and is very excited. She played for a while and is now asleep."
Hugo clearly didn't want Millie to meet her.
Nora said, "If Millie is asleep and can't see me, can I at least take a look at her?"
Hugo said with a polite smile, "I'll ask Uncle Diego if he's willing to let you see Millie."
He then turned to Diego and pretended to ask, "Uncle Diego, Ms. Smith wants to go upstairs to see Millie. Should we let her?"
Diego's expression darkened, and he replied, "Of course not. Tell her that she should be grateful we are not kicking her out right this minute. She'd better not push her luck."
Hugo's smile remained unchanged and he added, "Ms. Smith, I'm sorry, but Uncle Diego said he doesn't want you to see Millie, and you should be grateful they are not kicking you out right this minute."
The atmosphere suddenly became tense.
James clenched his fists and snapped, "Hugo, where are you hiding Millie? Hand her over now!"
Hugo's expression turned cold upon hearing him speak.
"How dare you stand here and shout at me? You traitor! You think you can just waltz in here after what you did to Stov? You're not leaving alive."
The Rochet society was wiped out largely because of James, who had leaked information.
Therefore, Hugo naturally saw him as a traitor.
"If you have the guts, come at me. Don't involve the innocent," James said.
Hugo sneered and said, "Don't worry, you're not even worth it."
Seeing the two on the verge of a confrontation, Nora feared Hugo would really cause trouble for James, so she spoke up, "Mr. Rochet, James is my translator. If something happens to him, you'll be held accountable."
Hugo glanced at her and said, "Ms. Smith, no need to remind me. I'm a legitimate businessman, not like Stov, who resorts to violence."
Nora naturally didn't believe him.
Hugo seemed very shrewd. He wouldn't do illegal things openly but would do them secretly.
But now, Nora wasn't in the mood to care about that. Her goal was to see Millie.
"Mr. Rochet, I'm not leaving until I see Millie."
Hugo shrugged and said, "Sorry, I'm just a middleman. It's not up to me. Uncle Diego and Aunt Mia are Millie's family. If they don't want Millie to see you, there's nothing I can do."
Nora knew this was just an excuse. Seeing the hostile looks from Diego and Mia, she realized she wouldn't be able to see Millie today.
After a moment of contemplation, Nora decided not to stay any longer. She said to James, "James, let's go."
James was anxious and asked, "Dr. Smith, are we just leaving like this?"
"We'll talk outside."
James was reluctant but ultimately said nothing.
"Mr. Hugo, we'll take our leave now. Please tell Mr. and Mrs. Rochet that they can't hide Millie forever, and I won't give up on her."
Nora nodded slightly to Hugo and then turned to leave.
Marco also said goodbye to Hugo and left first.
After seeing Marco off, Hugo's smile faded.
Diego asked, "What did that woman say before she left?"
Hugo replied, "She said she wouldn't give up on Millie."
Diego's face darkened, and he snapped, "My granddaughter, what right does she have to take my granddaughter from me?"
Hugo said, "Don't be concerned. Mr. Ferrari just confirmed their claim is baseless. This is our playground, and they know better than to step on our toes. Millie is ours.
