Chapter 322 Getting Nora
She was quite straightforward.
Nora laughed softly, her affection for Harper Long increasing.
Then, the emcee's passionate voice boomed through the microphone, filling the room. "Ladies and gentlemen, dinner will now commence! Please allow me, on behalf of the hosts, to extend a heartfelt welcome and thank you all for being here!"
The applause thundered as Nora collected her thoughts and stopped chatting with Harper Long.
After the emcee's introduction, he invited the current head of the Remington family to speak.
The patriarch of the Remington family, in his early fifties—Archer Remington's father and Evella Remington's granduncle—gave his speech and then introduced the guest of honor, Evella Remington.
Evella, dressed like a young princess, was radiant under the lights. She took over the microphone and began her pre-rehearsed speech, thanking the heavens for reuniting her with her family.
While Nora was listening to Evella Remington's speech, she felt a tap on her shoulder. Turning, she saw Sandy approaching her.
"Nora, I just saw quite a scene in the backyard," Sandy whispered into her ear.
"What kind of scene?" Nora asked curiously.
Sandy recounted her observations from the backyard, and Nora frowned upon hearing that Gary hadn't given up on her yet, her face reflecting her helplessness.
Had she not just inadvertently saved his life? Why was he so persistent?
Nora's frown deepened when she heard that Suzy called Remington's eldest brother a 'useless cripple.' The disdain for such cruel words was clear in her tightened expression.
She didn't know the eldest Remington brother very well, but the fact that he had courageously rescued Harper Long was enough to show that he was a man of integrity and responsibility.
How could a scheming woman like Suzy be worthy of him? The eldest Remington should marry someone cultured and profound like Harper Long.
Nora glanced around subconsciously, searching for Suzy.
Far off, she spotted Suzy facing the stage, standing amidst the crowd. Beside her was a man, his eyes smiling warmly at her.
Was that Jackson Gordan? What was he doing here?
Nora's eyes flickered with thought, remembering Aaron mentioning that Caleb and Jackson had been ousted from the board of the Gordon Group, effectively stripped of their power.
Could it be that they having lost its place in the Gordon Group, had come to develop in Lindwood City?
At that moment, Jackson gave a sly grin. "Suzy, long time no see. You've gotten even more beautiful."
Suzy hadn't expected to encounter Jackson here.
Her expression was cool. "What are you doing here?" she said, aloofly.
"I came because I knew you would be here, especially to see you," Jackson said smoothly.
His gaze was too intense; Suzy knew he had his eyes on her.
Flashing him a look, she said, "Mr. Gordon, you shouldn't be focusing on me today."
Jackson chuckled mischievously, "But my eyes only see you."
Suppressing a shiver, Suzy gestured for him to lower his voice.
"Mr. Gordon, let me tell you a secret. To be frank, Nora is the daughter of the Hamilton family, and I, as their foster daughter, am about to be kicked out of their home. If I recall, you were driven out of the Gordon Group by Aaron, right? Don't you want to get even with him? If you're looking for revenge, you should take Nora away from Aaron,” she suggested.
Jackson was a playboy at heart, but most importantly, he had a grudge against Aaron. She had to shift Jackson's attention to Nora.
Jackson frowned, and disbelief was evident on his face.
"Nora, a daughter of the Hamilton family? Who are you trying to fool? If she truly was a daughter of the Hamilton family, then why wouldn't they announce it?" he asked, doubtful.
Suzy said, "The Hamilton family has their reasons for not announcing it. If you don't believe me, fine. Let's just say I never mentioned it."
Jackson looked at her for a few seconds, skeptical. His gaze swept around, looking for Nora.
In fact, from the moment Nora made her appearance today, he had noticed her. A little bit of dressing up, and she was still as stunning and radiant as when he had seen her before.
The thought that he had nearly won her over, only for Aaron to swoop in and snatch her away, had been nagging at him. He was determined to make Nora his, but...
"Suzy, by egging me on like this, are you trying to get me to make a move on her so that she'll break up with Aaron? That way, you'd have another chance with Aaron, right?" He was no fool and could guess Suzy's intentions.
Suzy snorted lightly, denying it, "You're wrong. Aaron and I are long over. The Hamilton family wants me to marry into the Remington family—they want me to marry Archer Remington, the eldest son."
On hearing this, Jackson smirked wickedly.
"The Hamilton family wants you to marry Archer Remington, the cripple? Suzy, I've heard that after his car accident, he's not... functioning well in that department. Are you sure you want to marry him and be stuck living like a widow?" he remarked, sarcastically.
Suzy's gaze flickered, her fingers tightening. She had heard those rumors too. But Emma had reassured her, saying it was all gossip and that Archer Remington had no such disabilities. Still, who knew for sure? It was rumored that Archer Remington always kept to himself, staying away from the touch of women.
If he didn't have any issues in that area, why would he, nearing his thirties, be able to resist?
"Suzy, if you don't want to marry him, why not marry me?" Jackson caught on to her hesitation and leaned in closer.
Suzy stepped to the side, looking at him sideways, "Marry you? You're nothing but a playboy now, what do I gain by marrying you?"
A discarded pawn aspires for her hand in marriage, how dare he? She'd rather marry Archer Remington.
Despite being from an esteemed lineage, Remington's family held a prominent status, and marrying into Remington's clan meant she would be respectfully referred to as Mrs. Remington, the grand lady of the house—which surely beat becoming the spouse of a discarded loser.
"Suzy, don't underestimate me. The Gordon family Group will be mine sooner or later," Jackson said, his eyes flashing with a tint of cold sharpness.
Suzy replied dismissively, "Then talk to me when you've reclaimed the Gordon family Group."
At that moment, colorful and dazzling fireworks started to burst in the night sky, celebrating Evella Remington's return.
Guests lifted their gaze to the sky, and the female guests cheered joyously, their voices echoing throughout the expansive garden.
Nora, too, was admiring the beautiful scene. Fireworks popped open like blooming flowers, creating a spectacular display.
Suddenly, a four- or five-year-old boy dashed up to her and yelled, "Hey, witch, show your true form!"
Following his shout, he threw something at Nora. Before she could react, Sandy quickly pulled Nora behind herself.
With a pop, it was the sound of a firecracker exploding on the ground. The noise startled everyone nearby.
Sandy felt a sharp pain in her forearm and immediately noticed that her dress had caught fire.
Flames leaped up, making her scream in fright.
Nora was horrified and wanted to stomp out the fire, but before she could act, someone grabbed her wrist.
It was Aaron, who had come to her side.
"Aaron..." she started.
"Don't go over there," Aaron said with a stern face.
