Chapter 969 Everything Ended Tonight
Wyatt wiped his tears and stayed quiet.
Aaron told Johnnie, "Check this out now. Find out who's behind it ASAP."
"Got it," Johnnie replied and left.
"Mr. Reid, you'll need to tell the truth to the reporters later," Aaron said to Wyatt.
Wyatt nodded and followed him out.
People outside swarmed Wyatt, asking questions.
Wyatt sighed and glared at Zachary. "Explain it yourself!"
Feeling guilty, Zachary explained and got cursed and beaten by the crowd.
Aaron didn't step in and had Tobias let the reporters in for interviews.
He then continued the factory tour with Nora, Mateo, and the delegation.
Gabriella watched coldly.
Seeing Aaron and Nora handle the crisis, she felt conflicted and a bit envious of their teamwork.
She wished for a partner like Aaron, someone she'd stand by through thick and thin.
Gabriella realized she wasn't imagining herself as Nora but thought of Johnnie as a potential partner.
'Am I crazy?'
'Did I fall for Johnnie just because he saved me?'
She shook off the thoughts. 'No, Johnnie's just an assistant. I can do better.'
The day had been nerve-wracking.
As night fell, Aaron returned to the estate with Nora and Mateo.
After investigating, Johnnie found the mastermind.
He handed Aaron the report.
Aaron read it and narrowed his eyes. "So that's it?"
"Who's behind this?" Nora asked.
Aaron smirked. "Remember Ken Turner from Lindwood City?"
Nora thought for a moment. "Yeah, Ken was ruthless. His son Aiden bullied classmates and had his dog bite Ryan's tendons."
"Aiden was sent abroad, and Ken kidnapped Billy in revenge."
Aaron nodded. "Ken fled but was caught."
Nora asked, "Why bring him up now? Is this related?"
"Indirectly," Aaron said. "Ken's maternal family is the Ramirez family from Sunshine Bay City. They orchestrated this. Zachary is the butler's son."
Nora understood. "So Ken's grandfather is seeking revenge?"
"Most likely," Aaron said. "Johnnie, hand the evidence to the police."
"Will do," Johnnie replied. "Mr. and Mrs. Gordon, if there's nothing else, I'll go."
"Johnnie, did you take care of your injuries?" Nora asked, remembering he took a hit for Gabriella.
"Yes," Johnnie said.
"Did Gabriella help?" Nora asked.
"Yes," Johnnie said, lowering his eyes.
Nora looked at him. "Johnnie, you saved her. Maybe she'll develop feelings for you..."
"Mrs. Gordon, Gabriella's pragmatic. She's just waiting to steal documents and return to Hchilia to marry Prince Miguel," Johnnie interrupted with a self-deprecating smile.
Nora was a bit taken aback by the mockery in Johnnie's eyes, unsure of what to say.
She had hoped to win Gabriella over, but it seemed hopeless now.
Aaron patted Johnnie on the shoulder. "Don't worry. We'll find you someone better than Gabriella."
Johnnie smiled. "I'll head back now."
"Alright." Aaron nodded. "I'll sign the contract with Mateo soon, and then you can get rid of Gabriella."
Hearing this, Johnnie's fingers tightened slightly, and his heart ached inexplicably.
The breakup was inevitable.
The next day, Johnnie handed the evidence to the Sunshine Bay City police.
The police quickly launched an investigation into the Ramirez family.
They confirmed the head of the Ramirez family was involved in a murder case and arrested him.
Faced with the evidence, he confessed to the crimes.
Overnight, the Ramirez Group's stock plummeted and eventually went bankrupt.
Those who had caused trouble learned the truth: it wasn't Aaron but someone from the Ramirez family who had killed their family members.
Aaron didn't blame them and even compensated them, earning their gratitude and praise.
What could have been a crisis for the Gordon group was smoothly resolved, boosting their reputation and credibility.
Three days later, Aaron and Mateo officially signed a cooperation agreement, marking another success.
This outcome infuriated Rafael, who pinned all his hopes on Gabriella.
Rafael called Gabriella, ordering her to get the confidential documents.
As night fell, Johnnie was at his computer handling business.
Gabriella looked at Johnnie's handsome face, a hint of struggle in her eyes.
Aaron and Mateo's cooperation had been finalized, and Mateo would soon return to his country.
Did she really want to help Rafael steal the confidential documents?
Gabriella walked behind Johnnie and saw the cooperation project open on his computer.
Her heart pounded.
She massaged Johnnie's shoulders and leaned down to kiss his ear. "Johnnie, I'm ready."
Johnnie paused, his Adam's apple bobbing slightly.
He turned and pulled Gabriella onto his lap. "Is it over?"
A double entendre.
Would everything end tonight?
"Yes."
Gabriella felt Johnnie's gaze was particularly deep tonight, hard to read.
She hooked her arms around his neck and kissed him.
"I'm going to take a shower." Johnnie pulled her hand away and walked to the bathroom.
Watching the bathroom door close, Gabriella's gaze fell on the computer.
She bit her lip, quickly took a thumb drive from her bag, and copied the data.
Her heart raced, and memories of the past few days with Johnnie flashed through her mind.
A hint of struggle appeared in her eyes.
Watching the data being copied bit by bit until it was complete, she closed her eyes, removed the thumb drive, and put it back in her bag.
Soon, Johnnie came out of the bathroom, wearing only a towel around his waist.
His muscular upper body and long legs were exposed, his wet hair steaming slightly under the light.
Gabriella's eyes flickered as she walked up to Johnnie and hugged him.
Her fingers touched his back. "Your back injury hasn't healed yet, and you're taking a shower?"
