Chapter 916 Not as Weak as You Thought

Emilio was speechless. "I can't believe how heartless you are. You're even scolding me, the one who gave you the info in the first place."

Jane shot back, "I appreciate your help, but trashing my fiancé is out of line."

As Jane walked away, Emilio was fuming.

He thought, 'Jane's putting romance over friendship!'

'She used to be a cool, collected cop, but now she's all about love.'

'Zephyr's a nobody without Jane's help!'

'What does she even see in Zephyr?'

Up ahead, Finnegan was chatting with some business folks.

Zephyr stood quietly beside him, smiling but silent.

Just then, Quentin walked over.

Once Finnegan finished his small talk, Quentin jumped in, "Hello, Mr. Foster, we meet again."

Finnegan glanced at him and smiled politely. "Mr. Taylor, hello."

Quentin looked at Zephyr and Jane.

"Mr. Foster, let me introduce our new general manager, Zephyr, and his assistant, Jane."

Zephyr extended his hand, "Hello, Mr. Foster, nice to meet you. I'm Zephyr."

Jane nodded slightly at Finnegan.

Finnegan gave Zephyr a quick glance and nodded, not shaking his hand.

"I've heard about the changes in the Wright Group’s management."

He grabbed a glass of wine from a passing waiter and walked away.

Zephyr looked at his own hand but didn't seem embarrassed. He calmly withdrew it with a smile.

Jane frowned slightly, worried.

She watched Zephyr's expression, fearing his pride might be hurt.

But Zephyr seemed unfazed, like he expected to be ignored.

Emilio, who had followed them, watched with a hint of schadenfreude.

"Jane, Finnegan clearly ignores Zephyr. Do you know why?"

Jane gave him a sidelong glance. "I'm not blind."

In the info Emilio had sent her about Finnegan, there were details about his background.

Finnegan's dad had made the usual rich-guy mistakes when he was young.

He had an affair with his secretary and had a kid with her.

So, Finnegan had a half-brother.

His brother was ambitious and always wanted to take over the Foster family.

The world of the rich was even darker and more scheming than that of ordinary folks.

Finnegan's brother had used dirty tricks several times, causing Finnegan a lot of trouble.

Under such circumstances, they were naturally at odds.

So, Finnegan could never have a good impression of Zephyr, who was also an illegitimate child.

That's why Jane wanted outside help.

She feared that even if Zephyr tried to cater to Finnegan, he still wouldn't cooperate.

"Since you know the reason, why let Zephyr approach him for cooperation? It's a waste of time."

Emilio snorted, "Just watch, in the end, he'll definitely need your help to solve this."

Hearing this, Jane frowned in displeasure.

"Emilio, don't underestimate him. He's not as weak as you think."

Emilio scoffed internally.

His gaze fell on Zephyr, a hint of disdain in his eyes.

Why did he feel so uncomfortable?

Up ahead, Zephyr didn't mind Finnegan's cold shoulder.

Because Zephyr had prepared himself for being ignored before coming.

After all, his background was flawed.

Zephyr followed Finnegan at a respectful distance, quietly watching him chat with others.

When Finnegan finished his glass of wine, Zephyr grabbed another from a waiter and handed it to him.

Finnegan glanced at Zephyr, his face showing a polite smile. This time, he didn't publicly snub him and accepted the glass.

But his tone was still cold and indifferent. "Mr. Wright, there's no need to try to please me. If you're here to talk business, forget it. I won't deal with someone who knows nothing about management."

Zephyr smiled slightly. "Mr. Foster, don't get me wrong. I'm not here to discuss business today. I just wanted to learn from you, maybe chat about wine culture."

Finnegan looked at him with some interest. "Seems like you did your homework and know I like wine?"

Zephyr didn't deny it. "Since I want to learn from you, Mr. Foster, I naturally need to know more about you."

Finnegan's love for wine wasn't a secret in their circle. What Zephyr said was more of a polite remark than flattery.

Finnegan took a sip of his wine. "Then tell me about the wine culture you know. For example, where's this red wine from?"

Zephyr took a sip, quickly recalling the wine culture he had studied that afternoon. Though he didn't drink much, he wasn't unfamiliar with it. With his recent study, he could still identify a few things.

"This wine is from Aidamore. It's not the highest grade but an IGT level. However, unlike ordinary IGT wines, this one is of excellent quality, comparable to DOCG."

Finnegan raised an eyebrow, giving him another look. What Zephyr mentioned about the grades was something only those who understood wine would know.

"Seems like you did your homework. But many men love wine, so doing this homework isn't particularly special."

Some business people around them, noticing the situation, chimed in.

"Indeed, the red wine we're drinking today was specially brought from Aidamore by the host. You don't need to prepare to know that."

The men was Kyle Sullivan, the heir of the Sullivan family. He was also here to discuss cooperation with Finnegan, making him Zephyr's competitor.

Seeing this, Kyle whispered something to a waiter, who soon brought a glass of white wine.

"Mr. Wright, do you know what this wine is?"

Zephyr looked at the colorless white wine and asked, "Is this wine?"

"Of course, don't tell me you don't even know Chrisland's wine?" Kyle took the opportunity to mock.

Zephyr ignored Kyle's provocation, took the glass, smelled it, and took a sip. Everyone watched him, waiting for his response.

Zephyr looked at Kyle's provocative gaze and said, "Sorry, I can't tell. Why don't you enlighten me, Mr. Sullivan? What wine is this?"

Kyle had a smug expression. "Didn't you say you did a lot of homework? Turns out you were just talking. I knew it, someone like you, an illegitimate child, can't achieve anything!"

Kyle's words were dripping with sarcasm.

Jane's face turned cold. "So the general manager of the Sullivan Group is a sharp-tongued person. Does it mean that the Sullivan Group's corporate culture is as unlikable as you are? Mr. Foster is a broad-minded person and wouldn't choose to cooperate with a company like yours."
